The Dream and the New Student

In the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the halls were quiet.

In House Gryffindor, Harry twisted and turned in his bed. He gripped the pillow tightly as he started dreaming.

He found himself in a large forest. Snow fell from the sky and he wrapped his arms around himself.

"H-hello?!" He called out. He looked around in confusion. It was strange that snow was falling in a forest of all places.

There was a twig snap and he spun around to see a large dragon staring at him. He stared at it with wide eyes. It was even larger than the Hungarian Horntail dragon he had faced during one of the challenges in the Triwizard Tournament.

It had black scales and golden eyes. It had light grey back spikes, purple wings and sharp light grey horns.

"Wh-who... who are you?" Harry murmured. He took a step forward and the dragon growled loudly. The boy almost flinched back but stood his ground.

He slowly held his hand out to the dragon. He couldn't tell what kind of breed it was. It looked so unfamiliar to him.

The dragon stared at him as it slowly stretched its head forward, its eyes narrowing. Harry watched it, trying not to let his nervousness show.

He stared into the dragon's eyes. Then he heard a distant roar. He didn't dare look away from the dragon's gaze. It wasn't until Harry heard another sound did the dragon tear its gaze away and huff out smoke from its nostrils.

It turned and started walking away.

"W-wait!" Harry yelped as he stumbled forward.

"Harry!" Ron exclaimed and Harry jolted with a yelp. Ron, Neville Longbottom, Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas all had worried looks on their faces and were surrounding Harry.

"Wh-what?" Harry stammered, putting on his glasses. "You were muttering and shivering in your sleep," Neville said with a frown, "whatever you were dreaming about must have been scary."

"I... wouldn't say that," Harry said with a sharp exhale as he got up, "it was certainly unnerving, to say the least."

The four boys walked out of their dorm and there were a lot of students bustling around in the halls.

As Neville, Seamus and Dean ran off, Hermione ran over to Ron and Harry.

"Did you hear?" She asked, "there's going to be a new student today!" "A new student?" Ron chuckled, "I find that hard to believe."

"Everyone's talking about it," Hermione huffed, "maybe if you paid more attention to the gossip, you'd actually learn some things."

"Hey!" Ron pouted. Harry looked between his two friends, amused. He sighed softly as he walked ahead and he looked over to see a small crowd of students looking out one of the large windows.

Harry raised an eyebrow before he ran over to another window and he saw Hagrid and Professor Dumbledore outside with a young girl and an older woman.

"That must be the new student!" "Who do you think her parents are?" "I hope they're famous!"

Hermione and Ron walked up beside Harry and looked out the window.

"She's about our age," Ron said. Harry hummed softly. He wanted to get a closer look.

He took off running. Hermione blinked in surprise, "Harry!" She ran after him. Ron looked at them before he looked back at the window. Then he hurried after his friends.

The three ran down the stairs and rounded a corner before they saw the two teachers, the girl and the woman. The three hid behind the corner as they watched.

"I trust that my daughter is in capable hands," the woman said.

"Of course, Latosha," Professor Dumbledore said reassuringly, "she'll be most welcomed by the students and the teachers in Hogwarts."

Hagrid ruffled the girl's hair, making her squeak and laugh. Latosha smiled softly and she kissed her daughter's forehead.

The girl wrapped her arms around her mom's waist.

"I love you, my sweet girl," Latosha said, rubbing her daughter's back, "I always will."

"I love you too, Mommy," the girl said softly, nuzzling her shoulder. Harry's eyes softened. Latosha smiled softly before she nodded to Hagrid and Professor Dumbledore before she walked away.

Professor Dumbledore gently patted the girl's shoulder. "The House Elves will take your things to your room. We'll be heading to the cafeteria."

"Okay," the girl nodded and she looked over at Harry, Ron and Hermione who quickly pulled back to avoid being discovered by the professor.

Hagrid chuckled softly, "I see you've already met the three young ones."

"Aw, dang it," Ron muttered. Professor Dumbledore smiled slightly, "come out and meet the new student, you three."

Harry stepped out from behind the corner and he looked at the girl. She had chestnut brown skin, raven black hair and light brown eyes.

"Hi," she smiled, "I'm Paige Rosewater." "Wait, as in the daughter of Latosha and Marcus Rosewater?" Hermione gasped, her eyes widening.

Professor Dumbledore chuckled softly, "indeed, Miss Granger."

"I'm Harry Potter." "I'm Ron Weasley."

"Nice to meet you," Paige smiled. Everyone walked to the cafeteria. Paige stayed close to Hagrid as there were a lot of students.

"Harry, Hermione, Ron, you three go to your seats," Professor Dumbledore said. Professor Minerva McGonagall walked over to Paige.

"Ah, the daughter of the Rosewaters," she smiled, "it is quite the honor to meet you." "Hello, Miss McGonagall," Paige said politely.

She followed Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore onto the stage, her heart racing with excitement and nerves. The Great Hall's enchanted ceiling twinkled above, and the long tables were filled with students chatting and laughing.

Professor Dumbledore's voice boomed through the hall, "Welcome, students, to our new addition, Miss Paige Rosewater. Let us make her feel welcome."

The students applauded, and Paige's cheeks flushed as she smiled. Professor McGonagall led her to the Gryffindor table, where Harry, Ron, and Hermione waited.

"Sit here, dear," Professor McGonagall said, gesturing to an empty seat between Harry and Ron.

As Paige sat down, Hermione whispered, "We're so glad you're in Gryffindor! What's it like being the daughter of Latosha and Marcus Blackthorn?"

Paige's eyes sparkled, "It's... interesting. Mom's always been busy with Auror work, and Dad's... well, he's Dad."

Ron chuckled, "I know what you mean. My dad's always getting into trouble."

Harry leaned in, "So, what's your favorite subject?"

Paige thought for a moment, "Transfiguration, I think. I've always loved changing things."

As breakfast began, Paige marveled at the magical food and drinks. She tried pumpkin juice and declared it her new favorite.

Throughout the meal, the Gryffindor students welcomed Paige with open arms. Neville introduced her to his favorite Quidditch moves, and Seamus shared stories of his pranking escapades.

As the first day's classes approached, Paige felt a mix of excitement and trepidation.
