Chapter 1: Doubt part 3
In the last chapter, Harry Potter got an offer for help, in exchange for a little consideration, from a Slytherin third year (a healthy bit of research went into that grade because I'm homeschooled and American). Harry Potter neither accepted it nor dismissed it outright. Then, in the middle of his summer, a couple of minutes ago, Harry received a knock on his door. Who could be at the door? Am I getting better at this whole suspense and recap thing? Find out, in this latest update! (Yeah, I'm not taking this too seriously. *shrugs*)
"Yes, Uncle Vernon!" I call back, exasperated. I open the fridge, reaching for his drink just as someone rings the door. I quickly close the refrigerator and give the bottle to Uncle Vernon. "I'm going to check the door."
"Fine, boy!" Uncle Vernon responds. "Go ahead."
"It's Harry," I correct him, lamely, heading for the door and opening it.
A girl, about a year younger than me, stands at the door. Her shoulder-length blonde hair has a small wave to it that turns it inward. Her warm eyes are a mesmerizing violet-blue that seems familiar, and with her little, button-like nose, she appears equal parts beautiful and adorable. I wonder why she's here? Is she selling something? She bows slightly. "Hello, I'm Olivia Haiden. I'm a Hufflepuff from Hogwarts. I understand my brother wanted to talk to you."
"Hmm?" I think about it for a second. A flash of understanding and I open my mouth. "You're that Slytherin kid's sister, aren't you?"
"Yeah, Ben's my brother." She smiles, tilting her head slightly. She laughs, "You should call him Benjamin 'cause he only lets me call him Ben. I wanted to talk to you. Do you think that you can get away from your," She pauses, trying to choose the right word, "your family?"
"Yeah," I look back. "Um, Uncle Vernon? I need to step out for a moment. Don't worry. You can't make me stay." I head forward, closing the door behind me, listening to Uncle Vernon yell obscenities at me.
"What did you come here for?" I ask Olivia, as we sit, holed up, in a quiet, dusty corner of a library. Uncle Vernon's practically outlawed from all libraries, so it should be safe here.
For the first time since I met her, Olivia frowns. "My brother let it slip that he contacted you. I- He's been crazy about the idea of taking down the Ministry of Magic since- since their rules failed to save our parents, and our third sibling. We used to be triplets rather than twins." She trails off.
I pause, thinking. "How do you feel about the Ministry of Magic?"
Olivia looks down quietly. "How do you feel about it, after Mister Black's death?"
I grit my teeth in anger. "Instead of acting, the Ministry of Magic just stuck their heads in the sand. It's their job to protect us, to help us, but instead of doing what they need to, they just tried to save their hides. They sent a person here to control us; they took Dumbledore away; they used propaganda to hurt Professor Dumbledore and me. Because of all this, plus Lord Voldemort, they let Sirius die."
Olivia sucks in a breath. "They just aren't doing what they're supposed to. They hurt people, my friends. I- I want a better government. One that we were supposed to have." She laughs a little. "Not that you'd care about how they hurt me. I guess what I'm saying is if you want to take down the Ministry, I have your back. If not, well, then you have a kindred spirit 'cause I feel the same way."
"But first, Lord Voldemort needs to be dealt with."
Olivia shudders. "I'm sorry. My brother has more confidence than me."
"So, he can say it, but you can't?"
"He says that he'd be a worse villain than V-Voldemort, so there was no reason for him to be scared."
