1 - 5: And Thus We Progress

"Hey..." A voice called.

"I need you to wake up." They said calmly.

Syn noticed this was not Alexa's voice. He slowly looked up, but using his right hand, he felt a tremendous sting of pain enough to make him lightheaded and fall back down.

With a wince of pain, he blinked a few times to get a better look at who was referring to him.

He saw a young woman with lavender hair, cut short around her head, but with a fluffy, high ponytail. Her yellow eyes bore into his caramel ones, and he tried to get back up again.

"You should probably wait. I can handle the threat." The woman said with a frown.

"As much as I'd like to... Mama ain't raise no bitch." Syn laughed, using his legs alone to stand up, and look around.

He was outside now, and... slammed into an entire traffic light pole. He saw the restaurant across the street up in flames, an ominous yellow glow in the center of the ruins.

"Where's Alexa?! Girl in a red dress?!" Syn asked, darting his head around.

"Oh my god! The worry in your voice!" Alexa shouted with adoration.

She appeared at his side, with only a bit of ash on her skin and clothes.

"Thanks to you I had time to teleport out, though I couldn't stop it from hitting you." Alexa said with an apologetic smile.

"Alright, from what I gathered, he can detonate things. I think that's about it. He also has a knife, but... eh. So what." Syn said standing beside the woman with lavender hair.

"A sort of fire abilities. Noted. I will handle dispelling the flames, you take him down." The woman suggested.

"Way—" Syn disappeared from their sight, rushing into the blazing building.

Syn reappeared above Tabi's head spinning horizontally with his fist cocked back.

"Ahead of you!" Syn announced, spinning faster than a bullet and punching down at Tabi's skull.

Tabi's jaw hit the floor, and as it popped up from recoil, Syn appeared behind him and hit him with a lethal back kick, making him flying through burning debris, and through a wall, out into the street.

Syn slid back beside his new comrade, smirking as he stood up smugly.

"How's that?" He asked.

"Familiar. Now apprehend him." The woman ordered, holding out her hand to the building in a blaze as sirens made their way towards their location.

Tabi roared in rage and began sprinting for Syn and Alexa, his malicious glare and glowing palms letting them know his intent to kill.

Sprinting forward with his body low, Syn circled around Tabi and watched as his hand began to lock on to him.

With three blasts detonated behind him, Syn narrowly dodged them by snapping backward in Tabi's direction. He picked his feet up and glided just a few inches above the pavement, slamming his feet into Tabi's legs, and making him flip forward from the velocity.

Appearing under where Tabi was sent into a flip, Syn clapped both hands upward, slamming a distortion of air into Tabi's chest.

Syn waited as Tabi's body plummeted, and tapped his foot just before he could crash, letting a wave of air slowly blow him into a light roll.

"Successfully incapacitated." Syn smiled, but it left as soon as he looked at his burnt right hand, the flesh of his body black and pink.

Syn sighed into a wince as he recalled all the injuries he received in such a short amount of time.

"Hey, how are you holding up?" Alexa asked walking up beside him.

"I'll be fine," He lied as naturally as he breathed.

"The fire has been put out. How was your fig—..." The lavender haired woman saw Tabi unconscious on the floor, his left horn cracked a bit.

"Commendable. Thank you for your assistance. But with the authorities on the way, I must take my leave." The woman said with a smile.

"Eh. Us too. I have no will to interact with the police." Syn agreed. Syn snapped his fingers, but they noticed nothing happened. He nonchalantly began jogging in place, before disappearing with Alexa in his arms.

The woman was about to make her leave, but heard the crinkle of paper in her pocket.

She blankly stared forward and sighed, having a rather accurate assumption of what it was. "...Familiar indeed."

'Wait... I need to find my phone!' Syn thought in a panic.

Opting to dine much cheaper, their solution being snacks from a convenience store, Syn and Alexa were staring at the chip section.

"Red or blue Doritos?" Alexa asked, enamored with the selection of chips.

"Neither. Barbecue." Syn replied, making Alexa sigh. "Ugh. Next you're gonna say you don't like Mountain Dew..." She mumbled, making Syn glance at her pout.

"Well... this getting to know each other thing is, uh, going great, eh?" Syn asked with a smirk.

'Just remember he's hot. Just remember he's hot.' Alexa thought with a deadpan.

Exiting the store after purchase, Syn took a sip of his fruit punch with a smile. Alexa noticed that he looked relatively happy, and was glad that things were starting to look up for him.

Unfortunately, when would that ever be the case.

Syn looked up and saw a limo was headed straight for him despite being on the sidewalk.

With only enough time to leap up a few feet, it crashed right into his body, making him slam into the window and roll across the top.

As the limo swerved back into the street, Syn clawed his hand into the roof of the limo and stopped himself, planting his feet onto the trunk, barely able to hang on at nearly 90 miles per hour.

'HOLY SHIT— ARE YOU OKAY?!' Alexa asked in worry.

"I have taken worse, but that definitely broke something."

Syn looked over the roof of the limo, and watched a beam of dark energy fly at him.

Leaping away with no where else to go, Syn landed on the car behind the limo, but they swerved away, making him roll off and into the next.

Crashing into the hood off the next car, he heard a woman scream from inside alongside her kids.

In a daze, Syn looked up to see another beam of darkness fired at him, and knew evading wasn't the play.

Leaping towards the attack, he clapped his hands and distorted the energy away from the car.

Leaping down the road after the limo, Syn clawed back into the roof and glared at the figure attacking him.

"MOM?!" Alexa asked landing beside him with her demon wings out.

"Yep! Mommy Mearest is in the building— I know you were waiting!" A curvaceous woman with lavender skin, black sclera, red irises, and the same sunbathed brown hair as Alexa. She wore a similar red dress, a black lather jacket, and thigh-high boots.

"You've gotta be kidding me... the hell is your problem?!" Syn yelled, furious at the interruption.

"You've ruined our reputation, you fucking brat. Do you understand the kind of repercussions we've faced after the disrespect you've dished my husband?" Mearest asked.

"You think I give a shit?! You ruined my life tenfold! I have NOTHING!" Syn shouted back, slamming his other hand down.

"You got what you deserved. You messed with the wrong family..." Mearest spat with a leer.

Syn grew angrier the more she talked about how 'bad' they had it. With all the money and power they could ever want, one kid defending himself was what it took to ruin their life?

Syn was about to launch himself at her, but a hand landed on his back, softly caressing it.

"You've got this. I believe in you." Alexa said with a smile.

Syn took a deep breath, and slowly began to smirk.

"Seems I do have something. Something important." Syn said standing up, the wind blowing his jacket and hair epically.

"Someone in my corner." Syn said pulling out his mic, spinning it in his palm and catching it with a smug grin.

Syn crossed his arms as the two wrapped up, knowing full well that this would be a breeze.

"We haven't even started. Don't get cocky." Mearest scoffed.

Snapping her fingers, two other limos began plowing through the cars behind them, with what looked to be steel plates on the grill and hood of the limo.

"What the fuck are you doing?!" Syn asked in disbelief. "Mom!" Alexa shouted with a glare.

"Casualties. They're necessary to make you one." She said with a smirk.

The limos kept pace with the one they were on, and each window lowered to reveal imps in sunglasses and suits manning what looked to be contraptions that fired the same dark energy Mearest was using.

"Well shit..."

Weaving out of the way of rapid fire, afterimages of Syn appeared as he smirked at Mearest, showing his prowess in any situation.

"Tch. The damn scapegoat had problems so what did I expect. Full power." Mearest ordered.

Syn flexed by wiggling his arms as his afterimages copied him. Dropping to his rear, Syn began spinning on his hands and kicking away the projectiles, returning them to their sender.

Within three spins, the two limos were damaged enough to begin slowing down and swerved into the shoulder of the freeway.

Without harming any civilians, the limos were disabled and that left only him and Mearest.

"You done yet?" Syn asked flipping to his feet.

Alexa awed at how well he handled everything, and was still taking his words to heart. She was fawning over him with each note and her admiration and adoration only grew with time.

"Fine. Lets end this." Mearest declared, snapping her mic in half.

Leaning back from the slash of her claws, Syn ducked a kick and jabbed Mearest in her stomach. Stomping her airborne foot down, Syn flipped back from a shockwave of dark energy.

As he was about to land, the shockwave traveled back and hit his guarding arms, but send him skidding back to Alexa.

"Come on, babe! Knock some sense into my mom!" Alexa cheered.

Syn laughed with a grin and dashed back in.

Just as he was about to throw a haymaker at the demon, a new entity entered the fray in the form of a black and red sphere.

Syn snapped his left hand and slid back again, he and Mearest watched as a tan man in black cargo shorts and compression pants stood up, his black short sleeves hoodie blowing back to reveal his dark red tank top under it.

His spiky black hair with red streaks blew back to reveal red eyes that glanced between the two.

Syn patiently waited for the new figure to make a move, but he eventually began turning toward Mearest.

"I knew it was you." The figure said with venom.

"Tch. The blue brat is one thing..." Mearest said with a scoff, quickly teleporting away, leaving the limo to speed down the freeway.

The figure then turned to Syn and Alexa, glaring at him as well.

"Thanks, man! That was dragging on." Syn shouted with gratitude.

Syn gave the guy a thumbs up, and watched him raise an eyebrow.

"Familiar..." they whispered.

"Don't think you're off the hook. What were you doing up here?" The man asked with a sigh.

"I got ran over." Syn answered honestly.

"I can vouch." Alexa added.

The man stared at Syn with an annoyed look of disbelief, but shook his head.

The limo suddenly appeared over a supermarket's parking lot, making Syn gasp as he fell along with it.

Alexa caught his hand and summoned her wings again, watching as the limo landed rough enough to pop the hood and truck, and possibly break the suspensions.

"Don't be so careless next time. After all, you're making a big name for yourself... Synchro." The man warned, disappearing not a second after.

Syn sighed as Alexa landed.

"Phew! Great job out there!" Alexa cheered. "Thanks. That actually took a lot out of me." Syn replied, wiping his brow of sweat.

Alexa suddenly made her phone appear in her hand, and picked up the call of the ringing device.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Put the midget on the phone."

"Agoti?" Alexa asked in shock.

"Yeah. Now put the idiot on the phone." Agoti said with a scoff.

Alexa did as asked and Syn took the phone.

"Finally! I've been looking for you, but—"

"You've been caught up. I know. Everyone does. You just can't seem to stay out of trouble." Agoti interrupted. "That being said, the very person you were interested in meeting, now is interested in meeting you..."

"Uh... who's that? Oh! Your label?" Syn asked.

"Yup. Unfortunately... they found out about our encounter, then went on to keep watch. Seems you've proved your use to her..." Agoti informed.

"Oh. Neat. Where are they?" Syn said with a smile.

"The tallest goth building in the city. Right across from your girl's dad's place. Literally can't miss it." Agoti spat. "Don't be a dick." Someone in the background scolded.

"Ugh. Fine. Just meet me at forty-fifth at 12 tomorrow." Agoti said before hanging up.

Syn handed Alexa her phone, and smiled. "We can finally get some assistance..." Syn said in relief.

"Let's go to the hotel across the street. Should work for the night." Alexa suggested. "Sure. Finally able to get some sleep without being knocked out." Syn agreed.
