The Eggs Hatch
After school ended for the summer, the girls had been hanging out at Savannah's house. Her parents were away on a business trip and her brother was at his study group.
"Any chance on finding out what these eggs are, Trin?" Anika asked as they sat in the garage.
Trinity was typing on her keyboard and she let out a deep sigh. She rubbed her face. "No... nothing," she said, "which is weird."
Felicity looked at her egg. "Who would leave these little treasures alone?" She asked with a frown.
Everyone looked at each other. They couldn't help but wonder who did leave these eggs.
Savannah looked at the egg in her arms. She hummed softly before she gave a reassuring smile. "Well at least we found them," she said, "and we can try and take care of them ourselves."
"Savvy's right, y'all," Anika piped up, "at least we have enough responsibility to take care of these lil critters; no matter what they turn out to be when the eggs hatch."
Everyone smiled and nodded. Stacy looked at her egg with a soft smile before she looked at her friends. "How about we all stay for a sleepover tonight?"
"Really?" Trinity said curiously. Penelope squealed happily, "SLEEPOVER PARTY!"
Rhonda giggled, "now, now. We have to get our things first, Penny."
Penelope smiled, "okie dokie lokie! If you want, I can look after the eggs while you're getting your stuff."
"Thanks, Penny," Rhonda smiled, "you're awesome!" "Anytime Dashie," Penelope grinned. She carefully took the eggs and she carried them to her bedroom. She gently set them in a basket of blankets and out of habit, she made sure they were nice and snug.
Anika chuckled softly and Savannah smiled.
"We'll be right back," Stacy chuckled. Penelope giggled then nodded. As her friends left to get their things, Penny started to clean up. She made some cupcakes for the sleepover.
As she was singing in the kitchen, upstairs in the bedroom, the eggs started shaking. Then the pale light raspberry egg cracked.
When the girls returned and had gotten started on their sleepover, it was eight fifty. Everyone was in their pajamas and hanging out in Penelope's bedroom. Rhonda and Anika were playing a video game, Felicity, Reyna, Trinity and Stacy were doing each other's nails, Savannah and Penelope were in the kitchen.
"You never cease to amaze my taste buds, Penny," Savannah giggled as she ate a cupcake. Penelope grinned, "why, thank you."
"Hey!" Anika exclaimed, making the two look over to see Rhonda holding Anika's remote controller away.
"You're cheatin', Rhonda!" Anika huffed. "Me? Cheat? Never," the girl replied, smiling innocently. Anika folded her arms and rolled her eyes.
Felicity and Penelope snickered. Reyna rolled her eyes with a smile. Suddenly, there was a clatter and everyone nearly jumped in surprise. Savannah looked at Penelope who was looking around.
"Do you have animals running around here, Pen?" Anika asked, furrowing an eyebrow. Penelope shook her head.
"Nuh-uh," she said, "my lizard, Gummy, is in his tank."
Felicity stood up and hurried upstairs to Penelope's room. Savannah and Anika hurried after her.
"The eggs are hatched!" Felicity yelped. "WHAT!?" Rhonda, Penelope, Stacy, Trinity and Reyna exclaimed. They jumped to their feet and hurried upstairs. When they ran into Penelope's room, they saw broken eggshells.
"Where are the critters!?" Anika asked, looking around worriedly, "y'all fan out!" The girls nodded and started to look around the house.
Penelope, Reyna, Rhonda and Anika looked in the kitchen and Stacy, Trinity, Savannah and Felicity looked in the living room. Savannah walked to the backyard and she looked around.
"Why would they be outside?" Rhonda asked in bewilderment.
"Well, they can't climb stairs and they most certainly can't open doors!" The redhead huffed but no one could fault her for being a bit snappy. They knew she was just as worried as them.
Felicity looked around in the bathroom and she was about to walk out when there was a loud chirp. She paused and slowly looked over her shoulder. There was a pale, light grayish gold wyvern hatchling in the tub, staring at Felicity with cyan eyes.
Felicity stared at the hatchling in shock before she knelt down and held out her hand. "Hello there," she said softly, "it's okay. I won't hurt you."
The wyvern hatchling tilted his head before he climbed out of the tub and he tumbled forward into Felicity's hands. The girl giggled softly and she gently rubbed his head. There was another chirp and she looked up to see the other little hatchlings. There were four dragon hatchlings, two of them male and two of them female. There were two drakes, both of them male and the second wyvern hatchling was a female.
"Girls, I found them!" Felicity called. She heard the hurried sounds of footsteps and she looked at the girls.
"Well, I'll be," Anika chuckled as she walked over and knelt down. The brilliant gamboge drake hatchling hopped out of the tub and waddled over to her, chirping. She rubbed his head and he purred happily at the touch.
The pale, grayish mulberry dragoness hatchling climbed out of the tub and waddled over to Trinity who knelt down and gently scooped her up. She giggled softly, "you're so cute." The dragoness hatchling squeaked indignantly at that.
Penelope picked up the pale, light grayish raspberry drake hatchling with a laugh. "You silly cutie pie! How did you and your friends even get in here?" She asked playfully and she tapped him on the nose. He playfully snapped at her finger but he didn't bite.
The light gray dragoness hatchling strides over to Reyna and looked up at her with a chirp. The girl giggled as she knelt down and gently picked her up. "Well, aren't you an adorable little darling," she said, gently rubbing her hand along her scales. The light gray dragoness hatchling immediately started purring.
The pale, light grayish heliotrope dragoness hatchling squeaked at Stacy, hopping up and down as she tried to get out of the tub. Stacy giggled softly as she walked over and she picked up the dragoness hatchling. "You're so cute," she giggled.
The pale, light grayish cerulean wyverness hatchling chirped and squealed at Rhonda who was holding her. "Hey now," she chuckled, "I've got you, ya little chatterbox." The wyverness hatcling squeaked and nuzzled her shoulder.
Savannah walked over and she saw the brilliant amber dragon hatchling lay curled up, looking up at her with wide eyes. She smiled softly, "it's okay. You're safe." She held her hand out and gently rubbed his head. He chirped softly before he slowly got up on his back legs and he nuzzled her hand, purring.
Savannah giggled softly. She scooped him up in her arms and he looked up at her with cyan eyes.
"So the eggs were dragon eggs," Rhonda said, realization in her voice. Trinity looked at her then at the dragoness hatchling.
"Huh... I guess they were," she said, her eyebrows raised in surprise.
"I didn't even know dragons existed," Felicity said, gently rubbing the wyvern hatchling's head. "They don't, to be honest," Trinity piped in, "they're from stories of folklore and mythology. And the odds of discovering dragons in distant lands are pretty slim."
"But if we found the eggs in the Appalachian Mountains, then how can dragons not be real?" Stacy asked, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.
"Well... I'm sure we can all figure it out tomorrow," Felicity said softly, "we need sleep. And maybe we can think of names for these little ones."
The pale, light grayish gold wyvern hatchling squeaked softly. The girls took their new friends to the bedroom and they got out their blankets and pillows. The little hatchlings snuggled up with their newfound companions and everyone slowly fell asleep.
Outside of the house, the white dragon from before was standing by the window, having watched the girls and the hatchlings. Somehow, he had managed to stay out of sight.
He sighed softly. He knew he would have to reveal himself to them eventually. He just hoped it wouldn't attract any... unwanted attention.
