Party

It hadn't been too hard to get them all in the van, seeing as they were all too afraid to make a move or try to escape. I was sitting next in the front, the caged wire behind me dividing us from them. They didn't talk, but one guy, a dyed redhead with a sharp nose and pierced ears, was muttering to Champ sitting next to him, his black eyes fixed on me. The Joker was sitting in the front, next to Frost who was driving rapidly over the highway. It was still morning, approaching 10am and I was wide awake, gripping the handle on the roof to stop myself sliding over the seats as Frost careened on two wheels turning a corner, then clamped down on the accelerator and sent the van spinning forward and away.

"Is the town hall free for renting, J?" I asked, and he turned to face me from the front.

"It's free for us." He grinned manically "And even if it's being used right now, they'll evacuate pretty quick." I frowned, thinking.

"Aren't parties supposed to be at night?" The Joker paused, then ran a hand through his hair.

"Well in that case, we'll make them" He pointed a thumb at the passengers in the back "stay in a garage until it get's dark. And we can go out and change. After all, we are the host's of the party so we better look it." I smiled. The Joker turned to Frost and motioned to somewhere over the city. The van turned a sharp left and we sped down the highway into a road.

"Come on back here, J. We've barely had any time together!" The Joker grunted obligingly and came and sat down next to me in the back.

"Hey, man." The sound came from the back and I twisted around to see who had talked. It was Champ, a worried smile on his face. "Uh, I heard your plans, right, um. I know that I was a real asshole and everything, but I didn't mean anything by it. I was going to, you know, give her back real soon but you turned up...I just wanted to say sorry."

The Joker's eyes blazed and his eyebrows furrowed.

"Champ...Champ you're really getting on my nerves now. I think you'll be the first to go."

I clenched my teeth and stared at the dark haired, black eyed man. "And you would have given me back? Like I'm some toy you can play with and share around?" I laughed, a tinkling sound "I don't think so. If you ever have the nerve to open your filthy mouth again I will beat you to death on the roadside."

He opened his mouth to reply, then stopped, my words sinking in. Next to him, the redhead with the piercings was licking his lips nervously.

"Look. Champ wasn't meaning anything by it. He's a bit...a bit stupid you know?" The remark was met with a look of pure anger from Champ. "He was just trying to apologise. And we all, all of us here, we weren't trying to aggravate you in any way." His voice trailed off when he saw the Joker shaking his head and smiling, his eyes wide open.

"New rule. If any one of you talks again, your eyes will be gouged out." The redhead shut his mouth quickly and sank back into his seat. I glanced over at the girls, who were sitting opposite the men, scowls imprinted on their faces. They were all quite pretty, long blonde, brunette and dark copper hair streaming down their backs.

"I suppose you're all quite expensive?" I left the question hanging in the air, looking directly at the girl with the copper coloured hair, wondering if she would talk. I smiled gently, and she flinched as if I had hit her. "Talk, bitch." I said it sweetly, and her face contorted in confusion.

"Yeah, we're expensive." Her voice was low and husky. I had always liked people with those kind of voices. I twisted around and bent my elbow around the headrest so I could see her better.

"What's your name. What's all of their names?" I swept my arm out, motioning to everyone in the back.

"Uh, the redhead is Bryan, that one is...Champ as you know, the big guy is Owen, Chase, Eel, and that guy calls himself Angel." She was pointing to a young looking blonde boy. He did look angelic, with his baby blue eyes and and deep golden skin. But then he smiled, and revealed a split tongue and several knocked out teeth.

"Wow." I muttered. "Carry on."

"That one is Eloise." I sat up straight.

"Eloise? Isn't that a girls name?"

"Yeah. He liked the name so he took it." I stared at Eloise, who stared back at me, impassive. In fact, he was the only person who had not shown any emotion since we had taken him. Even back at the red room with Champ he hadn't talked or laughed at all. I nodded at him and then turned back to the copper headed girl.

"The girls?"

"Bethany, Alice, Fiona, Kimberly, Brooke, Lily...and I'm Maya." The girls peered at me, their arms wrapped across their chests and their legs shuffling together in a huddle.

"It's a shame you had to be hired today, girls. I'm sorry about that." I smiled. "But sacrifices must be made."

"How is it our fault we were hired today? You can't just...kill us because of them." It was Maya, her voice indignant. I stared coolly at her.

"Whoever said we were going to kill you? We're going to kill them." I motioned to the boys "But maybe not you. I don't know, it depends what I'm feeling at the time." I smiled brightly and she shrunk back into her seat, just as the van shuddered to a stop.

"Get them out of the van." The Joker announced, and the guards in the back with them grabbed their shackles and pushed them out, into the sunlight. We got out of the side door and I stretched, feeling the warm sun on my back. I recognised where we were; the place where I had my first kill. I smiled with the thought and watched the gaggle of people being led into the garage, which was wide open. The Joker's henchmen raised their guns and prodded them into the darkness.

"Are they going to stay there with them?" I asked.

"Yes. Can't be too sure can you, with these people. I booked the town hall for tonight."

"How did you book it?" The amazement came through in my voice. I had never known you could book a town hall.

"Well, book is a nice word. They let me on special terms." He grinned wide and I giggled.

"I can't wait to waste the night with you, J. But we have all day first. What are we gonna do?" He frowned and pulled me closer.

"We can just go home and mess about until the party." I smiled. I hadn't been home in ages, or what seemed like ages.

"That would be good."

The garage door came down with a slam, locking everyone inside. Frost crawled over to the passenger side and leaned out of the window.

"Home?" The Joker nodded and we jumped back into the van. It reversed wildly and shot back onto the road, the blue sky spreading out overhead.
