Nurse
I stood, my hands clamping onto the walls to help me up. I raised them above my head in surrender.
"Ok, ok. I'm fine." I sighed, ran my hands through my hair, now dishevelled. I looked at her and stepped forward. She stepped back. "Can I...can I leave now? I'm fine." She shook her head slowly, the security behind her shuffling nervously. Did I really look that threatening?
"You're not fine. We still don't know why you were unconscious in the first place...we'll know soon though. Just sit tight for the while, ok? Come back to the bed. We can sit you up. She walked over to the hospital bed and pushed a button on the side, making it raise up into a seat. My eyes glanced around the room. Three men, the nurse. The door wasn't closed.
I looked at one of the men. "Can you..can you please shut the door?" He didn't move. I turned to the nurse, tried to look desperate.
"Can you please shut the door? I...I hate open places like this, it makes me nervous." I pretended to hyperventilate, my breaths fast, my eyes watering, my arms twitching.
She quickly motioned to one of the men to shut the door. I smiled in thanks as it slid shut. Now things could get going.
Without warning I moved fast and elegantly across the floor and punched the first guard in the face, at the same time sending my hand behind him and grabbing his gun from his back pocket. I ducked as a blurry fist came flying at me and clicked the safety off, then raised it at the two men coming at me. They stopped, their hands inching behind their backs.
"Calm down Miss" I giggled, then spun and sent a bullet straight through the face of the nurse. I wasn't calm. She slumped to the floor.
"Give me your guns." I motioned with my free hand. They shuffled nervously, their hands still inching behind them.
"Ok. We'll get them. Just calm down an-" They pulled their guns out at the same time and I dropped to the ground as bullets showered overhead into the plaster wall behind me. Fuck. I raised my own gun and sent two bullets through each of their heads in rapid succession before they could even react. I needed to get going; I only had a little time before others started coming in, notified by the sound.
I walked over to the nurse and rolled her onto her stomach, then unzipped her uniform at the back, pulling it off her body. I switched our clothes quickly. Her brown eyes were wide open and glazed over, her body naked apart from her underwear and bra. I grabbed the small white cap off of her head and stuck it on mine, smoothing out the creases, then reached down and removed the pair of white sneakers from her feet. They were a little small but would do.
I breathed in deeply, then walked over to the basin and washed the makeup off my face. Without all that I almost looked normal. Almost. I slid my gun into the pocket and then walked out of the room. People were converging to the side of the hall, some peering out of their rooms to see what all the commotion was about. I ducked to the side and started walking down a hall to my left, then heard a voice behind me.
"Lucy! We thought we heard gunshots coming from in there? We called the police! Is everything ok?" I raised a thumb and walked faster. "It was just the defibrillator. Um...the patient died for a bit." I called back.
I turned a corner and started running. Faster.
Footsteps. That annoying bitch was coming after me. I started to sprint, arms pumping at my sides, my hair flying out behind me. I turned into a hospital bedroom, still at full pace. Window. I could see a rooftop, just on the other side. I could reach it, but I had to slow down, the window was too thick to run through. I skidded to a halt and fumbled with the handle, pushing it forward.
"Lucy?!" It was open. I ran back halfway across the room. The voice was getting closer.
"Lucy what the hell are you-" I sprinted forward, feet barely touching the ground, and leapt out of the window, my cap falling off my head and spiralling downwards into the traffic, stories below. I was flying through the air, almost at the rooftop on the other side. Thump. I hit the ground and forward-rolled. My feet shredded against the concrete rooftop, and I winced as blood seeped out of small cuts on them. I looked back to see 'Lucy' screaming and shouting, her arms flailing around her like a madman. I giggled at the sight and blew a kiss at her, then started running across the rooftop to a shed-like door. I needed to get out of here, quick, before people were notified.
I was in Venice, with no friends, no money and no idea where I was. I needed to get back to the place...Rick...Ricci's tailor shop. I needed to get to that motherfucker and set things straight.
I prefer you in red...
Blood. He meant he preferred me in blood. Dead?
No. I felt tears trickle down my cheeks and brushed them away angrily. I didn't have time for that.
I made it to the door and opened it. There was just a staircase leading down into blackness but it would do. I started down, my hand sliding down the bannister.
I would find him. I would find Ricci. Then I would find the Joker.
