Little mission
"Harley" It had been 3 good days, spent mostly lounging around, cooking various recipes, my favourite being one for red velvet cupcakes that the joker had scrawled 'blood of a martyr' at the bottom of the ingredients list. I had laughed and asked him where I was going to find this. He had shrugged, seeming to pay no attention, but the next day a bag of blood had turned up next to the kitchen sink labelled 'Blood of a martyr. –Love, Joker."
Maybe the love part had just been a finishing touch, but it still meant something to me. Yeah, a messed up relationship but one that made my heart flutter none the less. I had baked those red velvet cupcakes, the smell wafting through the house and presented them to him after dinner. "It's my new favourite recipe." I had kissed him on the cheek and he had bit into it, looking at me appreciatively. "It's good Harley. Real good." I had raised an eyebrow "It's one nil to me, J. You'll have to prove yourself." After that a cooking competition ensued, he made lasagna with some odd ingredients, but wouldn't tell me what they were. I still ate it, and it was great. There was nothing much to do, apart from our little competitions. I sat sometimes and watched him planning. He mainly sketched, and some of the things he did sketch I didn't understand. I didn't ask him about them. Some things are just personal.
But yesterday that calmness had been broken. I had been sitting on the couch, watching the news, on which was batman beating up some guy, and there were a group of people sitting at a cabinet debating whether he was a friend or foe. I scoffed; they couldn't decide what he did.
The Joker walked in silently, but I could tell when he was in the room. I turned, to find him grinning beside me. I loved that about him. He was always happy, no matter what the cause; love, pain, anger, or something else.
"What is it?" I asked, touching his red lips gently with my thumb.
"I want you to come on a... little mission with me. Something special that I want you to experience." I raised an eyebrow inquiringly. He leaned in close.
"I need to kill a man." I giggled and locked our lips together, running my hands down his shirt.
"Ok. Anything. When do we leave?" He returned the kiss.
"Tomorrow morning. Be in the car at 6. I'll be waiting." And just like that he retreated back to his study.
I was looking forward to our little mission, even if it was to kill a man.
