THE END
After he had banished Lakshman, Shri Ram was consumed with grief and sorrow.
"Aaj hi ke din mai Bharat ko Raaj-paath deke, van hetu prasthaan karunga. Aaj Lakshman ka prasthaan huya hai, mai bhi aaj hi prasthaan karunga." Shri Ram announced to his counselors, perceptors and the people of the city.
When they heard what Raghav had said, all his subjects instantly bowed their heads to the ground and became as if lifeless. When Bharat heard Shri Ram words, he too was stunned. But he rejected the kingship.
"Bhaiya, mujhe Rajya ki laalsa nahi hai. Mai antim samaye tak aapke saath rahunga. Aap apne jyesht putra Kush ko Kosal dede aur Luv ko uttar ka Rajya. Ek sandesh Shatrughan ko bhi bhej de, ki hum swargarohan hetu jaa rahe hai." Bharat said.
And so that very day, Shri Ram conscreated both his sons, Luv and Kush as kings of Northern kingdom and Kosal respectively.
He gave each of them abundant wealth, as well as a thousand chariots, thirty thousand elephants, and ten thousand horses.
And thus, they had abundant jewels and great wealth and were surrounded by happy and prosperous people. Once he had consecrated those two valiant princes and dispatched them to their cities, Kusavati for Kush and Shravati for Luv, in this fashion, Shri Ram sent messengers to Shatrughan.
Urged on by his words, the swift-striding messengers proceeded swiftly to Madhurapuri without making camp on the way.
Then, after three days and nights, when they had reached Madhura, they immediately reported everything to Shatrughan just as it had taken place.
When Shatrughan had heard about the terrible, impending destruction of his family, he assembled his subjects and his purohit Kanchan and related to them everything, as well as his own imminent ascension together with his brothers.
Then the Shatrughan consecrated his own two sons. Subahu received Madhura and Shatrughati got Vaidisha. Dividing the army of Madhura between his two sons, he established them both as kings endowed with wealth and grain.
Shatrughan then went swiftly to Ayodhya with but a single chariot. There he saw his brothers in the company of the immortal sages.
Shri Ram was blazing, as it were, like
fire and was clad in a thin linen garment. Cupping his hands in reverence, Shatrughan respectfully saluted Shri Ram and told him that he was determined to follow his elder brother.
No sooner did the Vanars arrived with Rakshasas after hearing about the news of Shri Ram's plan to depart from the world. All those sons of the gods, sons of seers, and sons of gandharvas also assembled.
The Vanars and Rakshasas wanted to depart with Shri Ram but he denied.
"Vibhishan, jab tak tumhari prajati hai tab tak tumhe jeevit rehna hoga unki sewa ke liye, dharm ke anusaar unki raksha karna." Shri Ram told to Vibhishan.
"Jo aagya." Vibhishan bowed, Shri Ram smiled and then looked at Hanuman, supreme among those who had been devoted to him.
"Bhakt-shiromani, jab tak mera naam aur meri gatha iss prithvi par rahengi tab tak tum bhi amar rahoge, Hanuman." Shri Ram said.
"Jo aagya. Mai sadev yahi rahunga, dharti Mata ki aur aapke bhakto ki raksha karne ke liye." Hanuman said joining his hands.
And so the next day Shri Ram decided to depart along with his brothers.
Uttering no unnecessary words whatsoever at any point, making no unnecessary movements, spurning all comforts on the road, and blazing like the many-rayed sun, he set forth from his house.
On Shri Ram's left side was Padma, in deep concentration. He looked at her, a small content smile adorned both their faces. Together with his brothers Bharat and Shatrughan, he went to Sarayu river.
The citizens were sobbing, their most beloved king, their lord was departing.
"Samrat ! Mat jayiye !"
"Shri Ram ! Aapke bina humara kya hoga ?"
"Prabhu ! Aap toh dharm ki murat hai ! Aap chale gaye toh Dharm ki haani hogi !"
Shri Ram looked at his citizens, pleading for him to stay. He smiled sadly and then addressed them.
"Dukhi na ho mere Ayodhya-vasiyo, Mai sadev tum sabke man mei rahunga. Aur yeh na samajhna ki mai lautunga nahi. Jab dharm ki haani punah hogi, jab glaani se samast prithvi doob rahi hogi, jab adharm ka shashan hoga, tab sabka uddhar karne ke liye aur dushto ka vinaash karne ke liye, mai punah aayunga, kisi anya roop mei, kisi anya naam ke saath... Kintu mai aayunga awashya." Shri Ram said.
And so the seventh avatar of Bhagwaan Vishnu took Jal-samadhi along with his brothers Bharat and Shatrughan.
And so the age of Tretayug ended, Narayan returned back to his abode in his real form, hoards of gods and seers had gathered to worship him.
Beside him his dear wife Devi Lakshmi was seated. Among all those worshiping them both, he saw his daughter Rameshwari in her goddess form.
She was standing beside her husband Mrunmaye who too was in his godly form. Both of them bowed to Narayan as he nodded at them smilingly.
And so the leela of Mariyada Purushotam Shri Ram Chandra concluded, thus concludes the history of called Ramayan.
यावत् स्थास्यन्ति गिरयः सरितश्च महीतले ।
तावद् रामायणकथा लोकेषु प्रचरिष्यति ॥
As long as the mountains and rivers shall endure upon the earth, so long will the tale of the Ramayan be told among the people.
