CHAPTER 52
Shri Ram along with his daughter and brothers were in the home of the Ashwapal, enjoying his humble hospitality.
But the eyes of Rameshwari was still stuck on the door, wanting to go out and take a closer look at the horses and their glories.
She looked at her father who was having a sweet talk with the Ashwapal, inquiring about his well-being and the well-being of his wife and children, and whether he is living a fulfilled life and walks on the path of good.
Rameshwari knew the conversation is not going to end anytime soon, but she was getting really impatient at the delay to behold the great horses from Kambhoj, Bahlik and Vanayu.
And hence she lightly tugged unto her father's Angvastra, catching his attention.
"Pitashree, Ashwa dekhne chale ?" She asked.
"Abhi kuch der baad chalenge." He said.
"Toh mai akele jaayu ?" Rameshwari asked.
"Nahi." Shri Ram denied.
Rameshwari pouted and then looked at her youngest uncle Shatrughan. Tugging onto his Angvastra, she caught his attention.
He raised his brows at her, and she gestured him to convince her father. At first he shook his head, but then seeing the pleading face of his niece, Shatrughan relented.
"Jaane dijiye bhaiya." Shatrughan said.
"Chot lag gayi toh ?" Shri Ram asked.
"Rama ko chot lage ? Ho hi nahi sakta." Shatrughan said.
"Uchit hai. Jaao Ramey, kintu saavdhaan rehna." Shri Ram said.
"Awashya." Rameshwari smiled widely.
She got down from the seat and rushed outside giggling. Her eyes fell on the stables and she ran towards them seeing the glorious horses.
And when Rameshwari was in front of those horses who were standing tall and proud, she was in awe. They were so large, and so majestic up close.
Till now, she had only seen horses from afar, when her uncles used to come from expiditions, or when her father used to ride his chariot to some place. And now finally she was beholding the horses from this close.
Rameshwari raised her hand, as the horse from the stable in front of her lowered his head, as if deliberately wanting to be patted by her divine hands.
The Ram-suta smiled widely and grinned, touching the soft hair of the stallion. She loved the feel of brushing her hand over the horse's head.
Seeing that stallion getting patted by the daughter of Shri Ram, the rest of the horses also bent their heads down, neighing a little to catch her attention but being soft enough to not scare her.
Rameshwari looked at the rest of the horses, who shook their head a little so their hair falls down on their faces, to attract the daughter of Shri Ram to caress them also.
Knowing what they wanted and out of her love for horses, she sprinted happily towards each one of them and brushed her hands on their head. It was joy to her, but it was an assurance of liberty to them.
But it wasn't satisfying her just yet, the Kshatriya in her was yearning to ride those horses from dusk till dawn.
"Kya mai tumhari savari kar sakti hu ? Kambhoj-sukumar ?" She asked one horse.
The delighted horse neighed and was quick to come out of his stable. But he had no saddle on itself for a rider to sit. But that wasn't going to stop Rameshwari from not riding it.
Inside the home of Ashwapal, Shri Ram was getting a little worried. Because Rameshwari being herself, the atmosphere was too quite. It was unusual.
"Maharaj, yadi aap atithya se santusht hai toh Ashwa nirikshan hetu hum jaa sakte hai." Ashwapal said.
"Awashya. Shigreh chaliye." Shri Ram said.
He stood up from his seat and went outside following the Ashwapal's way while his brothers followed behind.
Reaching outside their jaws dropped seeing Rameshwari riding the horse on a circular track, and that too fastly. Her hair was freely flowing on the winds, as she giggled enjoying her ride.
"Bahut parangat Ashwa-rohi banegi." Shatrughan said proudly looking at his niece riding a horse and that too without a saddle.
Even Shri Ram would admit to the fact but not now. She was only four and was riding a horse without any supervision and that too without a saddle. It was a reckless behaviour.
"Ramey ruko !" He said firmly.
Rameshwari looked at her father and patted the horse to gesture him to slow down and stop. And when the stallion halted, Shri Ram rushed towards her and took her in his arms.
"Tumhe ek kshan bhi akela nahi chhoda jaa sakta ? Toh thik hai. Nahi chhodunga ab akele." He said as Rameshwari looked at him with a frown.
