CHAPTER 46

"Kya lagta hai ? Maharaj aayenge ?"

"Pata nahi. Rajkumari ka swasthya thik nahi tha."

"Pratit hota hai ki Maharaj ab parivaar par nirbhar ho gaye hai. Ek Raja ke liye yeh sahi nahi."

"Satya-vachan. Unki nirbharta ka koi bhi anuchit laabh utha sakta hai."

Although the time for the king to enter, hadn't come yet. But still the court were in whispers, raising questions about his arrival and duties.

"Jab aap jaante hai ki aapke Maharaj, pratyek uttar-daitwa ko purn karte hai tab unke prati aise prashn uthana aap sabhi ko shobha nahi deta." Hanuman said.

"Hum toh keval Rajya ki chinta kar rahe hai Hanuman ji." The ministers defended their stance.

They weren't completely wrong. They were great ministers who cared deeply for the well-being of Ayodhya and only wanted the best for the kingdom.

"Humare Maharaj apne sabhi kartavyo ka nirwahan sahi roop se karte hai. Aap sab chintit na hoyiye." Vasishth said.

Soon the bugels were blown, marking the arrival of Ayodhya-pati. All the people in the court stood up in reverence.

But just as he entered they were all suprised seeing him carrying his daughter, the princess in one arm, while holding the royal sword in the other.

Bharat walked behind him holding the royal umbrella or the chhatra over Shri Ram's head. Lakshman and Shatrughan walked behind Bharat with their heads high.

Shri Ram went up to the throne, bowed his head in front of the statue of Akhand Maharani Arya-Bharti's statue.

He then turned to the court, and sat down with Rameshwari on his right lap. The rest of the ministers also got seated.

Vasishth looked at them both with a smile, it was a sight that can be beheld only once in the four yugas. It was also quite ironic to him how Akhand Maharani was behind him but also on his lap.

"Sabha prarambh kare." Shri Ram said.

The ministers were speechlessly staring at them both for a moment, before they began giving their reports to him.

The court processed just the way it did daily. The presence of princess didn't cause any hindrance, because Rameshwari was quietly fiddling with the long fingers of her father which were wrapped around her small torso.

Sometimes she would twist the rings he was wearing around the side of his palms and then turn them back to their actual positions.

Other times she'd count the diamonds and other gems encrusted in them. The vibrant colours of the jewels were a source of much entertainment to her, for some reason.

Shri Ram too let her fiddle with his fingers as long as it can keeps her occupied.

But soon she got bored of her little made up games and looked at the court, curious to know what they were discussing so seriously. And the eloquent words spoken by the ministers about the kingdom affairs sparked her interest.

Although Shri Ram was focused on hearing the reports by the ministers, he could sense his daughter paying attention to the happenings of the court, as she wasn't fiddling with his fingers anymore.
