CHAPTER 24

The guests of Ayodhya were spending leisure time with their hosts, the kings and queens were together with Shri Ram and Devi Sita in the great hall being entertained by dancers and musicians.

Meanwhile he had entrusted the duty of taking care of Rameshwari with her uncle Lakshman, who were in the royal garden.

Other little princes and princesses from other kingdoms wanted to play with her, but were too intimidated by the elder Soumitri to even approach her.

Only the brave souled Mrunmaye had the courage, not only to approach Lakshman but also demand to play with Rameshwari.

"Mujhe khelna hai." Mrunmaye said tugging onto Lakshman's Angvastra.

"Maine mana kiya na. Tum kheloge toh dusre balak bhi ajayenge, Rama ko tang karne." Lakshman said.

"Nahi aayenge." Mrunmaye whined.

'Mujhe bhi khelna hai.' Rameshwari also pouted looking at Lakshman.

But fortunately Bharat came there just right in time.

"Lakshman, idhar ana." He called.

"Ha bhaiya." Lakshman nodded.

He then placed Rameshwari on the cradle, and looked at Mrunmaye.

"Tumne kaha tha koi tang nahi karega, dhyaan rakhna." Lakshman said.

"Awashya." Mrunmaye smiled.

It was quite silly how Lakshman would keep her dearer than life niece in the care of another toddler, but for some reason he only trusted him out of everyone present there as he went to talk to Bharat.

"Kya aadesh hai bhaiya ?" Lakshman asked.

"Nishkraman sanskaar ke baad, Karn-vedhan sanskaar ata hai. Hume uski taiyaari bhi kar deni chahiye." Bharat said.

"Uchit kaha aapne. Aap jaise kahe mai waise hi sab karunga." Lakshman said.

Both of them started discussing about the necessary preparations, while the other kids on the royal garden were being stopped from even looking at Rameshwari by Mrunmaye.

The prince of Shripuram was standing tall with stretched out hands, preventing the other princes and princesses from reaching Rameshwari.

"Hume khelane do !" They said.

"Tum nahi khela sakte." Mrunmaye said firmly. Some were one or two years older than him, while some around the same age, but Mrunmaye remained unbothered.

"Hum toh khelayenge." An older prince said.

He tried to reach for Rameshwari but earned a smack on the hand by Mrunmaye.

"Rajkumari ko sparsh toh kya, dekhne ki bhi chesta mat karna." He said. Causing Rameshwari to giggle.

But suddenly all the kids ran away seeing Lakshman walking towards them.

"Ati-uttam karya kiya tumne, Rajkumar Mrunmaye." He said. Mrunmaye grinned.

By then Shri Ram and Devi Sita also came there with Ratnakar Sagar and Samriddhi devi.

The queen of Shripuram took her son in her arms. And stood at the end of the cradle, from where he was out from Rameshwari's sight.

And this obviously was not acceptable to the Ram-suta. And thus she turned to the side and unto her stomach. This made everyone freeze for a moment, before Shri Ram happily picked up his daughter in his arms.

"Ramey ne karwat leli, dekha tumne Sitey ? Lakshman tumne dekha ?" Shri Ram asked excitedly, Devi Sita nodded chuckling.

"Ha bhaiya." Lakshman said smiling widely.

"Lakshman, praja mei mishthaan aur vastra ka daan karo. Unki Rajkumari ne pehli baar karwat jo li hai." Shri Ram said.

"Jaisa aap kahe bhaiya." Lakshman said and was quick to head out and fulfil the task given to him.

"Badhai ho Shri Ram. Ab hume jaane ki aagya de." Ratnakar Sagar said.

"Itne jaldi jaa rahe hai ?" Shri Ram asked.

"Ha prabhu. Rajya ka kaar-bhaar sambhalna hai, aap toh jaante hai ki Raja Rajya se adhik dino tak dur nahi reh sakta." Ratnakar Sagar said.

"Yeh toh hai. Aap yaha aaye man harshit ho gaya." Shri Ram said.

As they all bid good-byes to each other, Rameshwari and Mrunmaye kept looking at each other. She smiled at him and so did he, before his parents took their leave.
