CHAPTER 36
"Devarshi, vartamaan kaal mei kya koi aisa vyakti hai jo gun, veerta, dharm, kritagyata aur dridh sankalp se sampann ho ?" Brahmarishi Valmiki asked Narad Muni.
The Devarshi har come to the ashram of Valmiki on the banks of Tamsa river, and the two of them engaged in a discussion.
Brahmarishi Valmiki was especially interested to know if there was a man living in their times who had all the 16 qualities ideal in a man.
"Kya koi aisa vyakti hai jiska charitra nishchhal hai, jo sabhi praaniyo ke kalyaan hetu sadev samarpit hai aur jo vidwaan, saksham aur sundar ho ? Kya aisa koi vyakti hai jo sabhi paristhitiyo mei sayiyam banaye rakhe ? Jo apne krodh ka vijayeta hai ? Jo tejasvi ho ? Jisme irsha ka bhaav na ho aur jiske krodhit hone par, devta bhi bhayebhit ho jaaye ?" Valmiki asked.
"Brahmarishi, vartamaan samaye mei mai ek vyakti ko janta hu jisme yeh sabhi gun hai. Woh anya koi nahi apetu Ayodhya ke Maharaj, ikshvaku vansh mei janme, Ram." Narad Muni said.
The Devarshi then went on to recount the story of Shri Ram, his unexpected vanvas, life in the forest, Devi Sita's abduction by Ravan, Shri Ram's sorrow, friendship with Vanars, construction of bridge over the sea, victory in Lanka and the coronation to the throne of Ayodhya.
Later when Narad Muni left, Valmiki went to the banks of Tamsa for his bath, accompanied by a disciple. There he spotted a couple of kraunch birds, fluttering happily around in each other's company.
As Valmiki was admiring their love, a hunter shot dead the male kraunch and the female kraunch began screeching in shock and sorrow.
Valmiki too was deeply pained witnessing the cruel act ofbthe hunter that separated two birds in love.
"मा निषाद प्रतिष्ठां त्वमगमश्शाश्वतीस्समाः । यत्क्रौञ्चमिथुनादेकमवधी: काममोहितम् ।।" Valmiki instinctively cursed condemning the hunder for causing such pain to the birds. (O hunter, since you have killed one bird of the couple when it was infatuated with passion, you will be deprived of your pratishtha and peace.)
Having uttered these words, Valmiki became thoughtful. He was stuck by the structure of the verse that he had spoke.
"Dukhi hoke maine jo shabd bole, woh chaar pado mei vibhajit kaavya ke roop mei prakat huye. Ek shlok ke bhaati inhe bhi Sangeet mei piroya jaa sakta hai." Valmiki said to his disciple, who remembered the words of his Guru.
Returning to his ashram, the mind of Valmiki was preoccupied with the sorrowful incident he had witnessed and the verse he had uttered.
That day, he had a divine vision. Brahmdev manifested before him. The Pitamah smiled for he was aware of the thought nagging the Brahmrishi.
"Valmiki, aapne ke mukh se jo shabd nikle hai, woh vastavikta mei kuch anya nahi apetu ek shlok hi hai. Aapke mukh se yeh shabd meri iccha ke karan bole gaye hai." The creator god said.
"Mai chahta hu ki aap, Shri Ram ke jeevan ka varanan kare. Shri Ram ke gun, dridhta aur veerta ke baare mei likhe jaisa Narad ne aapko bataya tha. Ram, Lakshman, Sita aur Rakshasho ke jeevan ka vivaran, aapko shigreh hi gyaath ho jayega. Aapke dwara likha koi bhi shabd asatya nahi hoga. Jab tak iss jagat mei parvat uche khade rahenge aur jab tak nadiya bahengi, Shri Ram ki katha suni aur sunayi jayegi." Brahmdev told.
A strong belief took over the mind of Valmiki, as he began to analyse the task given to him by creator Brahma himself.
"Mujhe Ramayan ki rachna uske sampoornta mei karni hogi." He decided.
Valmiki sat down in deep meditation to learn the details of Shri Ram's life. By the strength of his yogic powers, he could see the events in Shri Ram's life play out before his eyes, as they had happened.
He could see things as clearly as one sees a fruit held in the palm. Not only did he see what had happened, be also what was yet to happen.
