CHAPTER 57

Devi Sita's firmness and strength left Hanuman amazed. The challenge before him now was to tell her about the efforts of Shri Ram. But he needs to be careful lest he alarms the guards.

Hanuman shrank his body even more, so he was small enough to hide in the branches of the tree, under which Devi Sita was sitting.

He then started singing the glory of Shri Ram, narrating the story of exile, the abduction of Devi Sita and the search operation taken by Shri Ram. Devi Sita was astounded, and thought she was hallucinating.

She looked around until her eyes fell on Hanuman, not knowing what to make of him. Getting a little scared, she turned her gaze away, only to see him come close.

Hanuman bowed to her, and tried to initiate a conversation. But she did not speak.

"Mata, kya aap woh Devi Sita hai jiska haran Ravan ne Janasthan se kiya tha ? Kripya mujhe apne baare mei bataye." Hanuman requested in a pleasant tone that did help her feel at ease.

"Kaun ho tum ?" Devi Sita asked.

"Mai hu Ram-doot Hanuman." He said.

Listening the name of her husband, Devi Sita relaxed a little. She had heard about her husband after months.

"Ha Hanuman. Mai hi Janak-nandini Sita hu jiska vivah Uttar Phalguni Nakshatra mei Dashrath-nandan Shri Ram Chandra ke saath huya tha. Mata Kaikeyi ke aadesh se hum 14 varsh ka vanvas bhog rahe the ki Ravan ne mera haran kar liya Panchvati se. Uss dusht ne mujhe 1 varsh ki avadhi di thi use swikarne hetu. Jisme keval 2 maah shesh hai, anyatha woh mujhe maar dega. Kintu mujhe nahi lagta, ki mai 2 maah tak bhi jeevit reh payungi apne Nath ke bina. Yadi woh nahi aaye toh mai praan tyaag dungi." She said.

"Chinta mat kijiye Devi, aapke yaha hone ki suchna mai shigreh Shri Ram ko dedunga." Hanuman said.

"Mujhe aaj ek kahaawat smaran ho aayi, ki yadi manushya jeevit rahe toh kadachit 100 varsho baad bhi use prasannata mil sakti hai." Devi Sita said with a smile.

Seeing her relax a little, Hanuman took a step ahead but then Devi Sita got suspicious of the Vanar. She remembered how Ravan had also deceived her in the disguise of sage.

'Kahi yeh Ravan ka chhalawa hai kya ? Nahi nahi... Isne mujhe Mata keh ke pukara hai... Iske netro mei mujhe satya dikh raha hai, yeh dusht nahi ho sakta...' Devi Sita thought but she still wanted to test him.

"Yadi tum satya mei mere Nath ke doot ho toh unke gun aur roop ke baare mei batayo." She said.

विचिन्वनौ महीम् कृत्स्नामस्माभिरभिसम्गातौ ||" Hanuman described both the brothers, Shri Ram and Lakshman. (Rama the tormentator of his adversaries, is a protector of the world of beings, further protecting his own people. He is the protector of his own behaviour and righteousness.

Rama is a broad shouldered and a long-armed man. He has a shell-like neck. He has a handsome countenance. He has a hidden collar-bone {under his angvastra}. He has beautiful red eyes. His fame is heard about by people.

He has a voice like the sound of a kettle-drum. He has a shining skin. He is full of splendour. He is square-built. His limbs are built symmetrically. He is endowed with a dark-brown complexion.

The invincible Lakshmana, the son of Rama's step-mother and Rama's brother, is resembling Rama in appearance, affection and in qualities.

Rama and Lakshmana, the two tigers among men, very anxiously desirous of seeing you and searching all over the earth, came in contact with us.)

"Mata bina aapke, Shri Ram ki man ki dasha aisi hai jaise parvat ki dasha bhukamp ke baad hoti hai. Prakriti ka saundarya bhi unke man ko shaant nahi kar pata. Virah ki peeda unhe raatri ko sone nahi deti. Kintu ab aap chinta na kare, woh shigreh aake Ravan ka vadh karenge aur aapko mukt kardenge." Hanuman said.

He then showed Devi Sita the ring with Shri Ram's insignia that he had given him before the expedition. Devi Sita was now sure that Hanuman was the messanger of her husband, she became elated.

"Hey Hanuman, Shri Ram ko kehna ki woh jitna shigreh ho sake utne shigreh aaye." Devi Sita said.

"Yadi milan ki vyakulta itni peeda janak hai, toh aap mere pith par baith jayiye Mata. Mai aapko Shri Ram ke paas le jayunga Kiskindha." Hanuman offered.

"Nahi Hanuman. Tum 100 yojan paar karke aaye ho, tumhari gati ka toh keval anumaan lagaya jaa sakta hai. Jis gati se tum udoge, uss gati se mai samudra mei gir gayi toh ? Fir Rakshaso ko pata chala, aur unhone mujhe punah bandhi bana kisi anya sthaan par chhupa diya toh ? Waise bhi ek vivahit stree ko paraye purush ka sparsh jitna ho sake utna taalna chahiye. Haran ke samaye mujhe Ravan ne sparsh kiya tha, jiska mujhe aaj tak khed hai. Aur yaha baat Shri Ram ke sammaan ki bhi hai. Haran unki patni ka huya hai toh mujhe mukt bhi unhe hi karana hoga." Devi Sita refused giving him her reasons.

"Uchit hai devi. Kintu Shri Ram ko vishwas ho ki maine aapko hi dhundh hai uske liye mujhe aapki koi nishani chahiye." Hanuman asked.

Devi Sita then narrated an intimate memory of an incident that happened in Chitrakoot that only she and Shri Ram were witness to.

She also praised Lakshman profusely and requested Hanuman to plead him to come along with Shri Ram and rescue her. Devi Sita then gave her chudamani to him as a token of her identity.

"Jaane se pehle koi aadesh Mata ?" Hanuman asked.

"Mujhe yeh batao, ki Ravan se yudh hetu mere Nath ki kya niti hai ?" She asked.

"Niti ko keval itni hai Mata, ki Ravan ko dandit kar aapko mukt karana hai." Hanuman said.

"Ravan jaise shatru ko parajit karne hetu yeh ran-niti upyukt nahi hai, Hanuman." Devi Sita said.

"Toh aap bataye kaisi ran-niti ka prayog kare ?" Hanuman asked.

"द्विविधम् त्रिविध उपायम् उपायम् अपि सेवते । विजिगीषुः सुहृत् कच्चिन् मित्रेषु च परम् तपः ॥" She said. ( A tough enemy cannot be defeated by following the 2 fold method {confrontation and conciliation}. A 3 fold strategy has to be adopted in this case {confrontation, conciliation and creation of dissension among his foes} to be victorious. I hope he is well-disposed to his friends and has good allies.)

A/N

Waise the sanskrit shlokas of description of Shri Ram and Lakshman, aren't completely in chronological order..... The entire sarga is about their qualities, so I just put the ones that best describes what Hanuman ji said.

Btw the intimate memory of Chitrakoot that Mata Sita shares with Shri Ram is this -

These days people believe that the crow was the son of Indradev, named Jayant.... But in Valmiki Ramayan the crow is shown as a mere bird.

And let's appreciate the 3 fold strategy Mata Sita advised Shri Ram to follow.... Which he does taking Vibhishan in ✨✨
