CHAPTER 4
-- FLASHBACK CONTINUES --
Maharishi Kaushik continued his penance, making it even more intense. This time he meditated standing up with his hands raised over his head. He gave up all kinds food and survived on air alone.
Whether it was rain, heat or cold, Kaushik persisted. This time if he succeeds he will surely attain the position of Brahmarishi, which was not something to be taken lightly.
Hence to determine whether he was worthy and had gained control over all his senses, Indra decided to test his Indriyas. He sent the queen of Apsaras, Rambha, herself to tempt him.
Seeing the celestial nymph with immaculate beauty, Kaushik smelled mischief. He understood that this was to hinder his penance and became mad with rage. So much that he put a curse on Rambha.
The very next moment, he got reminded of Brahmadev's words.
"Abhi tumne woh yogyata purn roop se praapt nahi ki hai putra. Prayas karte raho"
It was true. He hadn't complete gained control over his sense of anger. Indra's test made him realise that he was far away from it. Kaushik was flustered but wasn't going to give up.
He resolved to never to never give in to anger or speak any untoward words in anger. Kaushik also resolved to conquer every single impulse be it emotions or bodily needs like hunger, thirst or even breathing !
"Jo bhi ho, jab tak mai apni samast indriyon ko niyantrit nahi kar leta tab tak prayas nahi chhodunga." Kaushik proclaimed.
He went eastwards and again started his tapasya which continued for many years. During this time he also took a vow of silence. Many obstacles came his way but he remained steadfast.
And thus finally, Kaushik had accomplished what seemed impossible to many. A sankalp of this proportion had never been undertaken before nor it could be repeated by anyone, ever again. There was not an iota of anger left in him.
After several years of penance and fasting, Kaushik prepared a meal for himself. But Indra, to test the sage's resolve, came in disguised as a Brahmin seeking food.
Kaushik calmly gave the food he had prepared to his guest and stood silently as his food was eaten away. He was resplendent, exuding a divine aura, in front of whose radiance, the entire world seemed to have become dull.
This test of Indra, determined that Kaushik was free from any sort of impurity or ill-will. He had gained control over all his senses. He had become a Brahmarishi, and the divine aura exuded by him was the splendor of his Brahm-bal.
The delighted Brahmadev appeared once again in front of him.
"Tumhare jaisa dridh-iccha-shakti wala na koi huya hai, na hoga. Atyant prasannata ke saath, mai tumhe Brahmarishi ghosit karta hu. Aaj se yeh sansaar tumhe, Vishwamitra ke naam se jaanega !" Brahmadev bestowed.
Kaushik smiled attaining the new name, Vishwamitra, the friend of the world.
"Ab keval ek iccha hai meri prabhu, mai chaahta hu ki Rishiyo mei sarvashreshth Brahmarishi Vasisth swayam aake swikaar kare ki mai Brahmarishi hu." He requested.
Vasisth came and was delighted seeing the transformation of Kaushik, who had now become Vishwamitra.
"Isme koi sandeh nahi ki ab aap Brahmarishi ban chuke hai. Jo bhi shaktiya aur gyaan iss upaadhi ke saath aati hai, woh sab aapko praapt ho." Vasisth said.
Vishwamitra bowed down to him reverentially. Kaushik had started the journey to take revenge of humiliation, but now as Vishwamitra he had no anger, no jealousy, and no desire for revenge in his heart.
-- FLASHBACK OVER --
"Toh iss prakaar Samrat Kaushik, Brahmarishi Vishwamitra ban gaye. Aur Rig Ved ka sabse prasidh, sabse pavitra aur sabse mahatwapurn mantra, Gayatri mantra, unke dwara likha gaya. Iss liye Vishwamitra ko Drashtaa bhi kaha jata hai." Amarsri said.
"Oh. Iss liye Bramharishi Vasisth ne kaha ki Vishwamitra ko unse adhik koi nahi jaanta. Kyuki Kaushik se Vishwamitra toh woh unhi karan bane." Ganesh said.
"Satya vachan." Srinav said.

So what did we learn from Vishwamitra's story ?
We learnt that no matter how many challenges, obstacles or temptations may come in our way, we must focus on the goal and keep going !
Yes, in the way we will make mistakes, that's human nature. But human nature is also to rectify and repent for those mistakes we made. We should learn from it and not stop or get demotivated.
We also learnt that real freedom is not doing as we like. Real freedom is unshakling ourselves from the bondage of likes or dislikes.
We should strive to make our actions subservient to our wisdom. Because world would be a better place we acted as we should rather than acting as we liked.
