CHAPTER 17

As per his daily routine, Dashrath came to spend the night with his favourite queen after he wrapped up the affairs for the day.

He was suprised to find that Kaikeyi was not in her room. From the maids Dasharath was informed that she was in Krodhagar. The king got worried and hurried towards that room used by queens to show disapproval or anger.

In the Krodhagar, he saw Kaikeyi lying on the floor unadorned, distraught and angry. Dashrath panicked, he loved this queen more than his life. The king rushed towards Kaikeyi to comfort her and understand the reason for her anger.

"Kya huya Kaikeyi ? Mujhe batao. Yadi tum kisi rog se peedit ho toh uttam se uttam Vaid se seva karwayu. Kya tum chahti ho mai kisi vyakti par upkaar karu ? Ya tum chahti ho ki mai kisi ko dand du ?" Dashrath asked.

But Kaikeyi refused to speak to him or even look at him, as tutored by Manthata. This had the desired effect on Dashrath as he became more and more desparate by each moment, hearing her sobs.

"Rou mat Priya Rani. Yadi tum chahti ho ki mai kisi nirdosh ke praan lu, toh mujhe swikaar hai. Yadi tum chahti ho ki kisi adharmi ko praan daan du, woh bhi mujhe swikaar hai. Mai aur mere Karmchaari, sab tumhare daas hai. Tumhari iccha mere liye aadesh hai. Keval batao aur tumhara karya ho jaayega." Dashrath said.

He was unsuspecting of the consequences of the offer he was making. Dashrath was concerned and also driven by his desires for her. Finally Kaikeyi turned to look at him, softening her expressions.

"Mai aapko tab hi batayungi jab aap vachan denge ki jo mai bolu aap uska palan karenge." Kaikeyi said.

"Tumse adhik priya iss sansaar mei mere liye keval ek hi vyakti hai aur woh hai Ram. Mai Ram ki saugandh leke kehta hu ki mai tumhari iccha purn karunga." Dashrath said. Kaikeyi was satisfied hearing this.

"Bahut samaye poorv Devasur Sangram mei maine aapke praan bachaye the. Uss samaye aapne mujhe 2 var diye the. Aapne kaha tha ki apne praan deke bhi aap woh var pure karenge. Mai Aaj woh 2 var aapse maangna chahti hu." Kaikeyi said, Dashrath sighed with a smile.

"Tum meri Priya Rani ho Kaikeyi. Tum 2 Var kya ? Sahastro var maango, mai use purn karunga." Dashrath said.

"Nahi Rajan. Mujhe keval woh 2 var chahiye. Aur aapne ab Ram ki saugandh li hai ki aap meri iccha purn karenge. Karenge na purn ?" Kaikeyi asked again so he cannot back away.

"Raghukul reet sada chali aayi, praan jaayi par vachan na jaayi." Dashrath said.

"Aasha karti hu Rajan, ki aap iss kahaawat par khade rahenge aur Raghukul ki kirti banaye rakhenge." Kaikeyi said.

"Ram ki saugandh li hai maine Kaikeyi. Tumhari iccha purn awashya karunga. Jo maangna hai maango." Dashrath assured again.

"रामस्यारण्यगमनं भरतस्याभिषेचनम् |" Kaikeyi demanded. (Ram's exile to the forest and Bharat's coronation.)
