Uncovered
[Aria's POV]
Pain. That's all I feel at first. When I try to move, I find my legs are pinned underneath.... something. Where am I? I try to open my eyes, but my right eye refuses to open. However, my left eye slowly flutters until I find myself staring at...
Cobblestone?!
Right, right... Minecraft...
Wait... Anthony!
I feel fear and rage make me struggle underneath the rubble trapping me. I needed to get out of there and find Anthony. He had fought Herobrine, buying Alexa and Mobius time to lift me up, and then...
He lost...
I stop, fear seeping in over the rage.
He fell.....
I shake my head, trying to push the thought out of my mind. Anthony was one tough cookie, a little fall wouldn't kill him... He had to still be alive... He had to...
I start struggling again, finding one arm free. The other was trapped under a stone staircase that flipped over and had it pinned. I try to pull it free, but a sting of pain makes me stop. Instead, I gaze up and use my good arm in an attempt to move the stone above me. With the strength I have left, I push, but the boulder doesn't move. I growl and try again, but it refuses to even shift a centimeter.
With a gasp of pain, I stop and huff. I try to steady my breathing, but panic sets in.
I'm trapped...
I can't move...
I'm going to die...
I feel my breathing accelerate and I try to calm down. The others might have made it out, they could be alive still...
And trapped as well.
However, I hear something move near me, and I try to grow quiet to hear more. The noise grows louder, and I feel the rubble around me shift. A soft voice starts to slip through the cracks.
"Aria!"
Mobius!
I shout back as loud as my lungs can muster. "Here! Over he-ere!" A cough racks me as I say the last word. I stutter another yell, but another cough forces me to stop. There was too much dust in the air, and each spasm made pain flair through me. Luckily, I hear Mobius reply something, and I feel more movement. As I feel the pain go through me again, I move my one good hand to bring up my HUD. I see my hearts pop up, and I have to keep myself from gasping.
Three hearts were full...
Until a cough makes me move again.
Then two and a half.
I try to ease my breathing, and the hearts stop shaking. I needed to calm down before I end up killing myself. Thankfully, Mobius' voice is louder when I hear it again. "Aria! Don't move!" I huff and hold back my sarcastic remark. Couldn't if I wanted to, mate. The rubble above me suddenly moves, and I feel fear sink in as it slightly drops straight towards my face. Thankfully, another stair piece was jutting out and stops it from crushing my head. I sigh in relief and yell, "Careful! I have unstable cobblestone above my face!" I hear something, and I swear it was a curse, but this is Mobius... he doesn't curse...
Well, at least, not normal curses.
I shake my head. Focus, Aria! I keep my gaze locked on the block of cobblestone that threatened to smash my face in, and I keep my breathing steady. I can hear grunts echoing from the other side of this pile. Suddenly, the cobblestone above me shifts again, but this time it moves upward. A robotic arm pushes up under it, and soon it lifts the stone up enough that I see the bright blue glow of Mobius' robotic eye gleaming at me. "Aria! Are you okay? How many hearts?" I shake my head. "Two and a half. My legs and right arm are pinned... I think it's broken."
I see his face harden and I can nearly hear his thoughts. "Alright, hold on." He disappears for a moment, then returns with a pickaxe in hand. "Do you think you could use this to get your arm out?" I nod my head and take the tool with my good arm. Cautiously, I slip one end of the iron pick under the stair near my arm. Once it's secure, I pull down until the stair lifts enough and I pull my arm free. I hiss in pain and hold back the feeling of dread when I see my hearts appear.
Two full.
Mobius growls. "Alright. I can get your legs mostly free. Is your arm broke?" I slowly move it around, very happy that no extreme pain comes from it. I shake my head, which earns a nod from the avali. "Good. Once you feel your legs being able to move, you will need to back up fast. Okay?" I take a deep breath, but nod nevertheless. Mobius disappears, and I feel the weight on my legs shift. "Ready!?" He shouts, and I yell back, "Yeah! Go!"
The weight suddenly lifts, and I hear a strangled "Move!" I swiftly push myself back and free my legs. "I'm clear!" A second later, the rubble drops. When I look up, I see Mobius poke his head through a gap between the rubble that is just wide enough for me to slip through. "Can you move your legs?" I bite back a hiss as one hurts, but let a sigh of relief escape me when I don't lose half a heart. Nothing serious... "Yeah... I'll take a hand though." He nods and offers his robotic arm to me. I grab it and have to keep myself from gasping as he easily lifts me up. I make it through the hole and on my feet just as the area I had been in collapses.
I take a deep breath and realize Mobius is alone. "Where's Alexa?" Mobius motions with his head towards a tunnel in the collapsed ruins. "She's fine. We made a jump for it at the last second. She's looking for Anthony." I feel my heart drop, and I ignore the pain in my legs to run through the tunnel and I only stop when I see Alexa struggling to lift stone...
And Anthony's arm poking out from under a stair beneath it.
"I found him, guys! Help me move this!" I shake my head and quickly move to her side. We grunt but successfully move the large block. When we start to move some more, Mobius steps in. "Back up." Is all he says, and I glare at him. However, Alexa only nods and moves, so I do so as well.
As if it was a paperweight, Mobius lifts up more of the rubble over the area where Anthony's arm was with his robotic arm and tosses it aside. I turn to Alexa, and she shrugs. "Guess it's like your sword. His robotics are stronger." I decide not to question it, but when he kneels to lift the stair, I move. "I'll try to pull him out, you lift." He only nods, and I can see sweat forming on his blocky forehead. He may be stronger, but it was apparently still exhausting. I hear footsteps, and Alexa is suddenly next to me, shoving a pick under the other end. "I'll support it, so it doesn't fall towards us." I give her a nod, and Mobius begins the count.
"One... Two... Three!" He lifts and Alexa pushes down on the handle of her pickaxe, and I pull...
Falling flat on my rump when Anthony slides out easily from his hidden spot. I gasp at the state he was in. Bruises and cuts littered every part of his avatar, and one eye was shut with a slash over it. The other was closed as well, but unharmed. However, he was deathly still. Alexa, having released the pickaxe, slowly walks over. "Is..... Is he...?" Mobius rushes over. "No, his body would have vanished.... right?" I can't find the words to answer, so instead, I cautiously reach down and softly tap his shoulder.
A health bar appears.
Not a single full heart...
Not even a half...
He had one-fourth of a heart full, and it was gradually shrinking. "He's alive... but not for long. We need something with healing. Just food won't cut it!" I gaze around, realizing we were back at the opening of the mineshaft. Alexa seems to understand this and takes off, but Mobius shouts in protest. "It's too dangerous! You're not even at full health either!" Alexa rounds on him, anger evident on her blocky penguin features. "You have any better ideas?! We don't have time!" Mobius shouts back, "Well if you die in the process, what good does that do us?!"
They keep arguing, but I have lost them...
Because when I lifted my gaze to look past them...
I found myself staring straight at an Enderman.....
Fear sinks in as it gazes deep into my one good eye. I feel the other start to burn, and I push my hair out of the way to hold it.
Wait...
Carefully, I remove my hood, never leaving the gaze of the Enderman. He keeps his eyes on me as well, and I find myself slowly standing. I brush the hair away from my eye, revealing the gash and my purple eye. It flashes once freed from the brown cover, and I see the Enderman blink before taking a step back. Only then do I realize it had a hand behind its back. When I return to locking eyes with it, it hasn't moved or even screeched in my ears.
Something wasn't right.
As if realizing it made a mistake, the Enderman blinks rapidly, then turns and rushes down the hall next to it. For some unknown reason, I feel compelled to call out to it. "Wait!" I rush forward over the bridge and to the other side. When I turn, I find no mobs waiting for me...
Only a potion of Instant Health II and blue-ish particles.
Blue?
Before I can question it further, Alexa is by me suddenly. "Aria! What are you doing!?" I shake my head and slowly walk forward. "I... An Enderman was watching us." I can feel her freeze up, but when I grab the bottle and turn to her, she tilts her head. I continue, still not fully wrapping my head around it. "It left this." Alexa's eyes widen, and she shakes her head. "Let's not question good things." I can only nod in response and we both rush back over the bridge. Making it to the other side, I find Mobius watching Anthony's hearts with worry. "He's barely holding on." I shake my head. "I got this."
I pop the cork out of the bottle and carefully lift Anthony's head. I guide the opening to his lips and force his mouth open. Then, I tilt the bottle and pour the potion down. I feel his body slightly shiver, but I can tell he's swallowing it. "C'mon, you stubborn mule. Don't die on us now." When the bottle is empty, I place it in my inventory and carefully lower his head again. We watch his hearts expectantly, worry setting in when they don't begin filling immediately. Thankfully, the worry is gone as the shrinking piece reverses direction, and the heart quickly begins to fill. His wounds start to close and the blood on the clothes around them even begins to 'soak' back into his skin.
After a minute, with his health at half, a cough racks his body, and his eyes slowly open. They sweep around before landing on me with a half-hearted glare.
"Mule? Really? Was that the best you had?"
I shake my head and stand, offering him my hand. "Well, you'll have plenty of time to get me back for that." He takes my hand, and I help him stand. Alexa slightly cheers, and Mobius cracks a smile. Anthony shakes his head, regaining his senses. "Remind me... never to do that again." I can't help but smile at that and give him a nod. "Noted." However, I find myself gazing at the entrance of the mineshaft once more, a sense of concern sinking in.
Everyone seems to notice this, and Anthony turns. "Well... I guess we don't have a choice now..." No one replies, and I huff in irritation. I open my inventory and inspect what I have. I nod my head and grab a spare crafting table, then close my inventory. "We need to cover that for now, and begin smelting." I place the table down and immediately tap it. "I'll craft the furnaces real quick. You guys eat some food to start recovering hearts." No one argues, and I hear munching begin behind me. I swiftly make the furnaces and place three down. Alexa is the first to claim one, throwing in her iron with some coal. Mobius takes the next, and Anthony is next to him. I decide to wait and eat some of the steaks I had.
As I feel my body slowly begin recovering, I think back to the Enderman. Why didn't it attack me? That was the main question in my mind, but the others were just as confusing.
Why were its particles blue?
And why did it help us save Anthony?
I don't have the time to answer these, as Alexa jolts me out of my thoughts by letting me know a furnace was ready. I simply nod and slowly make my way over, still sore from being squished. I try to not think about it, for now, focusing on the current task at hand...
Which was how the heck we were going to survive down here if we run into a cave spider spawner.
