Chapter 35

I woke up to the sight of light hitting my closed eyes, I slowly opened one, looking at the bright substance entering through the small spaces through the curtains. I took the bed sheet covers and threw them across my head, blocking out the light. I smiled and went to my peaceful rest. I laid there in the comfiness of the bed, trying my best to return to my slumber but to no avail. I sat up with a sigh and looked at Fennekin who was still asleep 'How can you sleep for that long?' I thought to myself.

I stood up from my bed, and walked to the window, opening it and inhaling the fresh morning air. My hair, dancing with the smooth breeze flowing throughout the area. I slouched with my hands on the window, and kept staring at the surroundings, my mind then recalling yesterday and filling yet again with excitement.

'Spending the day with Ash was incredible, and amazing. Even though we had a rough start in Kalos, it was as if I got a complete reset when I arrived here. I thought he would still be upset about what happened with Calem, but he wasn't!' I squealed mentally. 'And the spot he showed me yesterday was also outstanding, I never would have thought that Ash would be the type to enjoy such things, but then again he is still a complete mystery'

My mind flashed back to the bench, and our last moments on the cliff. We were both sitting down staring out towards the sight ahead. There was silence, but no type of awkward silence, peaceful. Peaceful as bliss. Our eyes seemed to interlock and were gazing at teach other. His handsome hazel eyes, looking at me. But something was off-putting about them, I couldn't tell what but they seemed to be missing about them.

Time seemed to come to a freeze, and everything around stopped moving. Nothing else mattered. Space filled the air around, all that was visible was the glistening stars in the distance. I reached for his hand, edging closer. My hand coming ever closer to his, now hovering above his.

He stood up, looking away "It's getting late. We should really get going" Ash said, turning to me. No expression on his face. I was caught in a trance and a sense of shock at the same time. "You don't want to be waking up late tomorrow do you?" I shook my head, now disappointed "Of course you don't, you said it yourself. You don't want to waste any time while you are here, you want to experience everything Sinnoh has to offer" He said, recalling my own statement towards me.

My mind returned to the present. I sighed still looking out the window 'If only it had happened...' turning around, I noticed Fennekin stand behind me looking at me with a worried expression "No need to worry Fennekin, how was your long rest?" I asked, to which the fire type fox pokemon responded by jumping and doing flips to show her energy. I chuckled at her, going back to deep thought while staring at her 'Next time, I need more confidence. I hesitated, I should just go for it.' I said in my head, hoping to get another opportunity as great as yesterdays.

"Oh well, today may be the day. I'm sure Ash isn't busy with anything today." Before exiting the room, I got dressed in my usual attire, and then placed my signature pink hat on top of my head "Come on Fennekin, let's go" I said to my partner who I grabbed and hugged to my chest, while letting her face outwards. We exited our room and went towards Ash's, which I found out he was actually staying here yesterday when we returned.

I walked up to the door and knocked. We waited patiently for a reply or some sort of answer indicating that Ash was in, but nobody answered. "Ash?" I asked out loud towards the door 'He might still be sleeping' I tried again, to no surprise no answer. I sighed and looked at Fennekin "I guess he isn't here" I said with a disappointed tone.

Not knowing what to do I went to the front of the pokemon center "Well Fennekin, I guess today it's just the two of us. What do you want to do?" I asked my pokemon companion "Fenneeee" She said pointing towards the city "You want to go exploring?" The fire type nodded, right as we were about to exit nurse Joy came walking in, and reminded me that she could know something about Ash.

"Nurse Joy, did you see Ash this morning?" I asked nurse Joy, to which she nodded "I have. I'm guessing you want to know where he went or what he was doing?" She took a guess and got it right, I too nodded "Yes, I tried his room earlier and he wasn't there. Seeing as you are the one most perceptive of those who enter and leave, I thought I'd ask you." I stated, the nurse chuckled but the sweat dropped "Actually, I don't know where he is either. Ash said a good morning, and then left, he didn't specifically tell me what he was doing, but you are right I did see him" Disappointed in the answer, I thanked nurse Joy and moved on, continuing our plan for the day with Fennekin.

As we traversed the city, nothing came to our appeal, sure there were certain clothing shops that would interest us, but never keep us for too long. We were now walking at the outskirts, or more at the edge of the city where civilization meets wilderness. I looked out towards the vastness of trees overgrowing everywhere. I sighed then turned to my partner "There's nothing to do Fennekin, I don't know where else to go. I thought Jubilife city would be full of things to do, but just the two of us, there isn't much... I wonder what the gang back home is doing" I said as I raised my head up at the sky "Fennekin..." Fennekin replied hopping onto a stone fence nearby, I followed and took a seat beside her, resting for a while.

"You know, maybe if As-" My voice was soon interrupted by the sound of a cry coming from a distance, far away but still able to be heard. My attention got turned towards it "Did you hear that Fennekin?" I asked her to which she nodded. "Let's go!" I said before sprinting off  towards the direction of the cry. I stepped into the wilderness, and quickly paced past nature and it's obstacles.

I soon arrived at a tree where the cry was escaping from  "Bweee!" The pokemon cried out, as I noticed it struggling inside of a net, high above the ground. "Don't you worry! I'm coming to save you!" I shouted out towards the pokemon stuck inside of the net. I began the climb, as I saw the pokemon stare at me with worry. "There you are you little rodent" I heard a male voice from nearby, I looked down and a saw man standing staring at me "And what do we have here?" The man said, while giving me a curious look.

"E-bai, Ebai!" The pokemon cried out while looking at me with worry in it's eyes. "What do you think you're doing?" I shouted out towards the man, he smirked and then spoke up "Catching that darn pest that has constantly been getting away. Move out of my way, and you won't have to get hurt little missy." The man threatened. I had enough of this "Fennekin, ember on the top of the net, I'll catch the net don't worry" I commanded my fire type, standing on the ground. She executed it, and the net began falling, I leapt from the tree and caught it before preparing myself for the impact of the ground. I took a hard hit, but managed to get up "Are you alright? I asked the pokemon.

"This makes things ten times easier" The man grinned, before taking a pokeball from his belt "Hand it over, and nobody will get hurt." He demanded, while extending his other arm for the pokemon "I could say the same to you." I shot back, he chuckled and then threw out his pokeball "You made a big mistake young lady" The blue light revealed a green pokemon, armor-like hide covering its body. I gulped, and gritted my teeth at the sight 'I don't know if we will be able to do this' I said in my head "Fennekin ember!" I shouted out, the fire type move connected but caused no damage. "Hidden power, and aim for the head!" Fennekin's move hit it's mark, and caused the pokemon to stagger but ultimately did nothing.

"My turn" The man said in a cold voice, before motioning his hand swiftly "Now Tyranitar, get rid of this annoying human with hyper beam!" The green pokemon began charging up, before shooting out and hitting Fennekin making her fly back into a tree "Fennekin NO!" I cried out, and ran to her while still holding the net "Fennekin are you alright?" I asked, Fennekin was barely able to stand, but I could see she was nearly out of energy. 'Fennekin can't carry on like this' I then thought of a risky solution. "Fennekin, please go." I said to which Fennekin looked at me with confusion "Go, and find someone to help. Be quick, I'll try my best to stall them." I explained to Fennekin, but still refused. "GO!" I shouted this time, causing the pokemon to sprint away while looking back.

I smile then turned back towards the man "Some man you are, catching pokemon when they are defenseless and weak" I mocked him, to which he laughed "You think I care about the pokemon's feelings? Their feelings are useless to me, it's their value I'm after" The man explained, I could feel the pokemon on my back shaking in fear, I looked at its eyes, tears welling up inside of them. "So you're a pokemon hunter? Well I can't, no I won't allow you to take this pokemon" I shouted out, giving a look of determination to the pokemon inside of the net. "Ebai, Ebai!" the pokemon cried to me

"You have nothing left, hand it over" He commanded. I shook my head "Never!" Before running off into a direction that I wasn't even sure of where it was leading. I heard the rapid stomps behind me, following. I looked back, and saw nothing, but because of that I tripped on a root and fell to the ground, dropping the net with me. The pokemon hunter soon caught up "Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. I always get the catch" The pokemon hunter commented

"Make sure that thing is knocked out, use dark pulse." The man commanded his pokemon in a dark tone. "No!" I shouted out, while covering the net with my body, protecting it with my life. "Silly, silly girl. You never learn. Do not stop Tyranitar." I heard the sound of the buildup from afar, waiting for the impact. "Bwee?" The pokemon let out another cry, I gave him a smile and then closed my eyes and tensed them. I heard the move release from the pokemon, my body tensing further, I looked and the move was about to hit me, when a sudden explosion occurred.

I felt confused, and then saw that something was being thrown at the pokemon over and over again. It looked like a shuriken, but was enveloped in water, or completely made up of it. The shuriken was massive, nearly half the size of my body. "Who dare attacks the almighty pokemon hunter?!" The man shouted out into the open "If you're any sense of honor, you'll fight me in the open!" He shouted out towards the surrounding area with no reply coming back.

Soon out of nowhere, a pokemon landed in front of me and stood in a clam state A tall blue, pokemon. I took out my pokedex and checked what this pokemon was. Apparently it was a Greninja, however this one looked different, way different. The colors were off, and the massive shuriken on the back didn't add up. "So you dare mess with me?" The man shouted. The ninja pokemon didn't answer, instead took a battle stance.

"Tyranitar destroy this fool with Stone Edge!" The pokemon hunter shouted out to his pokemon. I watched and a sense of fear filled my body as I saw Greninja bolt directly at the pokemon, and the Stone Edge slowly coming towards him. My eyes widened when the water type gained a sharp glowing substance in his hand, and cut directly through the move smashing the Tyranitar on the head with a lit up fist. The rock-dark type got pushed back, and grunted in pain.

I could see a look of frustration on the man's face, clearly getting annoyed "Such a pest, there always has to be an obstacle in the way. I guess that's what makes this job fun, Tyranitar destroy this frog like you did with that stupid fox!" The man shouted out, the Tyranitar began charging a sphere of energy at it's mouth. Greninja blasted with it's feet and began multiplying by the tens, hundreds. Before long, there were countless Greninja encircling the Tyranitar, the move exploded and struck all of the Greninja. I was filled with worry seeing every Greninja hit, I began sweating as the smoke cleared, only to reveal no water type pokemon.

"What is this?" The man shouted out in confusion, not being able to locate the opponent. "Ninjaaaaa!" The water type cried out, I looked up and saw Greninja flying down onto Tyranitar with a shuriken at the ready. "Watch out, up above!" The man shouted, but to no avail. Greninja smashed into the pokemon before returning to my side. The smoke revealed a fainted pokemon. "Gren-ninja!" My hero shouted out, pointing a finger at the man, who seemed as though fear taken over him.

Greninja began pacing towards the man with a cold expression, another water shuriken formed on it's back. The pokemon began reaching for its back, taking the shuriken and placing it in it's hand. I could feel the tension it was enforcing onto the move. The pokemon hunter began walking back in fear, before tripping on a branch. Greninja was at the man, and raised the skuriken. "Hey! Is everything alright?" I heard the voice from a distance. Greninja stopped and looked at the direction, same as we all did.

To my relief, it was officer Jenny and I couldn't have been happier when I saw Fennekin with her. "Fennekin!" She cried out before leaping into my chest, and engaging in an embrace that lasted for a while. "So this was your pokemon? What happened here, did you take down that Tyranitar?" Officer Jenny asked "There was a pokemon hunter" I pointed at the direction where he is laying down, completely frozen. "And I didn't take him down, that pokemon over... there... did..." My voice began to fade away as I glanced into Greninja's direction only to notice it missing, however it's shuriken was struck right next to the mans head. 'I didn't get to thank you' I sighed in disappointment.

"Things seem to add up, I'll be taking this one away for a long time" The officer put as she grabbed the man, and put him in cuffs. While the man was passing me I could hear his disturbing whispers, talking to himself his face showing something of beyond fear. Once he was gone I smiled back at my partner "Guess it's time for us to be heading back, this has been quiet the adventure" I said out to her before heading the same way that we came from. "Ebai!" I heard a sound shout from behind me. I looked behind me, and saw the pokemon that was originally trapped in the net.

The pokemon shook off all the dirt that was covering, revealing it's true look. "Hey, you're all fine now! You can go and live peacefully now, don't worry. That man won't be returning any time soon. "Ebai" The pokemon said shaking it's head, and pointed with it's paw to me "What do you mean?" I asked it while kneeling down, the pokemon then ran up to me and tackled me into a hug, licking my face. "S-stops th-that tickles" I said while chuckling, we soon separated "You want to come with us, don't you?" I asked "Ebai!" The light brown pokemon cried out, and began jumping doing flips.

"Wait, I still don't know what you are" I said pulling out my pokedex and aiming it at the mysterious creature "Eevee the evolution pokemon, a normal type. Eevee can evolve into many different pokemon" The pokedex said out loud, I looked at Eevee in awe "So you are Eevee? Well then Eevee, I'd like to welcome you to the team!" I said while my lips curved upwards, the normal type hopping happily, and then sits still. I brought a pokeball closer, only for Eevee to tap the buttom with it's head, being sucked into it.

The ball shook three times, before sparks came flying out, indicating a successful catch. I could feel all the energy build up inside me, the happiness "Alright! I just caught my first pokemon, an Eevee!" I shouted while shooting up from the ground and jumping in the air. "A new chapter has been written in my book!"

P.O.V Switch

The honey blonde girl was filled with excitement and joy as she brought out her new companion and introduced her to the old "Eevee, meet Fennekin and Fennekin meet Eevee, or newest asset to the team!" She said, and both of them gave each other a high five with their paws, before starting to run around Serena. All of them began dancing, and celebrating their new friendship.

Unbeknownst to her, a figure covered in uniform, can be seen a few trees away, hidden by the branches and standing with his Greninja, gazing upon the pokemon performer in the distance. A smirk appeared on the figures face, as they closed their eyes.

'Congratulations Serena, you had only now taken the first step, in an endless path'
