ALICE.
My eyes slowly started to open, fighting the bright sun rays shining through the curtains. Once acclimated to the sun pouring in, I leaned over to see Billy still asleep, clutching part of the comforter to his chest. I stumbled with my phone on the nightstand and clicked a button. The lock screen read that the time was 11:04 a.m.
"Billy," I mumbled, muffled by the pillow. He didn't move. "Billy," I whined, slightly louder than I had before. He only moved a little in his sleep.
I grabbed the throw pillow that was still sitting untouched on Austin's side of the bed and sat up, preparing myself for what I was about to do. I brought my arm back only to then launch it forward, throwing the throw pillow at Billy's head. "Billy!" I yelled as the pillow hit his head, causing him to spring up and gasp.
"Gah!" He gasped, taking rapid breaths. He looked around him at his surroundings before looking up to me very confusedly.
"Good morning," I simply squeaked out through my morning voice, sitting on the bed with a lazy grin.
Billy rubbed his eyes and groaned. "What fucking time is it?" He asked, his voice lower because of his sudden awakening.
"It's 11 a.m," I sighed, stretching my arms out and cracking my back.
He murmured something inaudible as he yawned, grabbing his phone from the charger beside him. He rubbed his eyes again as he checked the screen, only for his eyes to completely bug out and look worried.
"Fuck!" He exclaimed, jolting up from his sitting position. "We have to go. They're gonna be here at 11:30," he said as he began throwing the comforter back on the bed.
It took me a few moments to process what he meant, but I gathered my wits and began helping him make mine and Austin's bed to how he would desire it to be: perfect.
"Do you even know who's going to be here?" I asked as I stood a few feet away from him, watching him frantically tap his phone screen.
"No," he murmured as he shoved his phone in his pocket. "But we have to go," he said as he headed for the door of the bedroom.
"Shouldn't I probably take a shower?" I asked, looking at myself in the mirror. My hair was puffed up and crazy as it fell around my face, knots formed all through it. My tank top hung loosely off of my body, my bra partly showing from how I slept. My shorts were the only thing still perfectly in tact.
"We can stop at my house and shower and do whatever you need to do," he murmured as he turned back around to face me. "Just grab clothes or whatever you need and we can leave," he murmured.
I grabbed a few items from my closet and my dresser and followed him out of the bedroom and down the staircase.
He checked his phone again before we left the house. He shrugged in approval and opened the door for me.
"Good timing," he sighed with a smile as he held his phone screen out to me to see. It read 11:10 a.m.
"That's the fastest I think I've ever moved to go anywhere," I chuckled.
He simply smiled back. His blonde hair was going every direction, and in a time that I had missed, he had put his leather jacket back on.
He closed the door and I locked it with the house key that I had grabbed, just in case an intruder were to come in the house between now and the time we got back. Austin's guys coming had to already have a key or the access code to the garage, so I wasn't necessarily worried they would steal anything or do something bad. Then again, they're Austin's friends.
Billy walked down the long driveway towards his car with me trailing a foot or two behind, clothes in hand. Billy hit the unlock button on his car keys and the doors to his car opened automatically, but they opened facing up.
"Woah," I murmured as the doors opened facing up, my mouth agape as I marveled at his car.
"You like it?" He questioned with a smirk and a raised eyebrow.
I hummed in agreement. I never knew what kind of car Billy drove, because I never got the chance of being in my own driveway hardly, especially when Austin was with his friends.
Billy walked over to his car and patted the front of it, marveling at it as well. He drove a metallic black Lamborghini Aventador, and I don't even really know what I expected him to drive because it just fit him so well.
I sat in the passenger seat cautiously and gazed around the car. Billy sat in the driver's seat and chuckled at my amazement.
"Ready for this?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. I simply nodded at him with awe written across my face.
He chuckled and hit a button, causing the doors to close by themselves.
"Holy shit," I murmured, clutching the clothing items in my hand a little harder.
"You might wanna put your seatbelt on," he suggested with a smirk as he revved the engine.
I worriedly put my seatbelt on and he started messing with his phone.
Suddenly, the speakers began blasting "Fuel" by Metallica.
"Ready?" He called over the music, searching my face.
"Yeah!" I called back, causing his face to contort into a huge smile.
He backed out of the driveway at record speed and turned around in the middle of the street. He flashed me a smirk before putting it in sport mode. Billy drove down the street faster than I could even comprehend, dodging other cars left and right.
When we had to stop at a stop light, Billy opened the glovebox in front of me and pulled out his sunglasses. He put them on and I looked to my right, noticing a car full of girls that were gawking at the car.
"It looks like you have some fans," I murmured with a giggle.
Billy looked over and rolled down my window, causing the girls to all giggle when they saw Billy. He simply pulled his sunglasses down a tad and flashed them a smirk as he winked at them, and then he drove off.
We were at the gate to Billy's house in record time. He flashed the guard his toothy smile and the guard smiled back, opening the gate for him. Billy drove slowly up his driveway and I gasped when his house came into view.
"Jesus," I gasped, marveling at the structure of Billy's home. It was gigantic and beautiful. The house itself was like a castle almost. It was completely black and mesmerizing.
Billy parked outside of his house in the circular loop and opened the doors to the car, which he then promptly closed when the two of us got out.
"Do you like it?" He asked, a cocky grin on his face.
"I love it," I murmured, gazing up at the castle before me. "I wish I lived here."
He chuckled at my comment, probably because he thought I was kidding. He walked up the steps of his house with me following, and he opened the door for me.
"Ok," he said as he clasped his hands together rather loudly. "I promised you one of the best days of your life, so we don't have time to gawk at all the bullshit in my house," he stated. He then motioned for me to follow him with a nod of his head and a smirk plastered on his face. He lead me up the grand staircase and then down the hall to the right.
"This is the bathroom," he said, motioning to it with his hand. "If you need me I'll be down that hallway," he said, pointing to the hallway we didn't go down on the opposite end of the stair case.
"What are you going to be doing?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
He smiled back as he began walking off. "I'm going to be showering in my bathroom," he called back.
I giggled and stepped into the bathroom, turning the light on as I did so. It was beautiful. The sink was made up of black marble and the floor was composed of white marble. To my right, there lie the toilet, bathtub, and shower all spaced out greatly.
I shook my head as I closed the bathroom door behind me, not wanting to halt whatever plans he had in mind for the day.
I turned the shower on and stripped of my clothing, relishing at the immediate feel of warm water on my body.
My mind was clouded with possibilities for whatever Billy had in store, but it didn't scare me. He didn't scare me. I trusted him, and it had been a long time since I trusted a man in my life. All of Austin's friends, contacts, and whomever else he knew were assholes, but Billy... Billy was kind, sarcastic, funny, witty, enthusiastic, genuine, and all things that Austin and his friends lacked.
After my shower, I dried off and put my outfit that I had grabbed on. It was simply a white muscle tank that hung loosely off of my body with a gigantic armhole that showed my black sports bra, and black skinny jeans along with a pair of short, black boots.
I stepped out of the bathroom and realized I had no clue where Billy was, if he was even still in the shower. I heard a piano softly playing as I walked closer to the stair case, causing me to descend down it to find out where the music was coming from.
I reached the bottom of the stair case as quietly as I could and walked to a room to my right, only to see Billy softly humming as he played the piano.
"It's beautiful," I murmured, causing him to jump out of his seat. He was once again wearing a black leather jacket and black skinny jeans, but with a dark grey shirt underneath his jacket.
He smiled sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his bed.
"What song was that? I think I recognized it," I murmured as I leaned on the wall beside the doorframe.
He responded, "'Sound of Silence.'" He shook his head. "But the Disturbed version obviously, not the original." He flashed me a goofy grin.
I hummed in approval as I glanced around the room. The walls were a dark maroon and filled with black and white photos of bands, along with records. There was even a bookcase filled entirely with CDs.
He giggled as he motioned for me to follow him. I followed him out of the door that I had entered in, and he moved to stand by the entrance to the house.
"So," he voiced as he clasped his hands together. He took a short pause before continuing. "I'm guessing you're hungry," he stated with a raised eyebrow, earning a nod from me. He flashed me a toothy grin. "Great," he responded as he opened the door to his house with me following.
He drove me to some diner a little ways away from his house, and the drive was peaceful. Billy's playlist continued to sound through the speakers, but no where near as loud as it had been when we left my house.
At the diner, we talked for a while and shared laughs and stories as time ticked by. I enjoyed his company, and I hypothesized that he enjoyed mine. It was either that or he was forcing himself to tolerate me because of Austin's orders, but I highly doubted it was the second one.
After our meal, Billy drove me to some small park a few minutes away from the diner. It wasn't like Central Park at all. It wasn't crowded and gigantic, and it was-
"A playground?" I giggled as I raised an eyebrow at him. He simply laughed as he ran to the swing set, motioning for me to follow him. I ran after him and sat in the swing next to him.
"It's peaceful here," he murmured as he glanced around.
"Won't people be weirded out that two grown adults are sitting on the swings?" I asked with a giggle.
Almost on cue, two elderly women walked along the path in front of us. One of them called over to us, "Hi, Billy!"
Billy flashed them a smile as he waved back. "Hi, Mrs. Phelts!" He stood up and motioned for me to follow.
I trailed a few feet behind as he walked over to them.
"How are you?" Mrs. Phelts asked as she pulled Billy in for a hug.
"I'm doing great," Billy murmured as he pulled out of the hug. "How are you?"
"I'm doing alright," she responded. "Just thought I'd take Luisa on my daily walk with me. I was just telling her all about you," she said as she flashed him a smile.
He smiled back.
"And who's this?" Mrs. Phelts asked as she motioned to me. She then grabbed Billy's cheeks as she questioned, "Is she your girlfriend?"
Billy's face turned red as I giggled. "No," he squeaked out, which came out a little muffled from his cheeks being clasped in her fingers.
She let go of his cheeks and swatted him on the chest. "Introduce me to your girlfriend, Billy. Be nice," she demanded, completely ignoring his previous statement.
He shook his head and looked to his side to see Mrs. Phelts already walking over to me.
"I'm Alice," I murmured as I introduced myself while grasping her hand in mine.
"I'm Penelope," she responded with a smile as she shook my hand. She held me at arms length by my shoulders. "You're so beautiful," she exclaimed.
I glanced over at Billy and noticed he had a soft smile on his face as he continued to watch us.
"Thank you," I murmured. "You're beautiful as well," I said, motioning up and down her body.
She laughed and tilted her head back as she did so. "Not as beautiful as you, my dear," she giggled. She then got serious. "Is Billy treating you like a princess? Because if he's not, I'll find you a nice, young gentleman that you'll love," she stated.
Before I could respond, Billy said, "Mrs. Phelts, I told you. She's not my girlfriend."
She shook her head and waved Billy's comment off with her hand. "She said that her name is Alice," Mrs. Phelts began. "I'm guessing that she's the Alice you're always talking about?"
I stifled a laugh as Billy's face turned beet red while stumbling on his words.
"She's married," he responded, finally having a grip on himself.
"Pish posh," she remarked, waving her hand at Billy's comment. "No marriages are forever at your age anyway," she stated.
Billy rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically, clearly embarrassed.
"I'm guessing Billy's here a lot then if you know him so well and he's always talking about me," I suggested, smirking between Billy and Penelope.
She nodded her head before responding. "Yes!" She exclaimed. "He's here a lot and always alone," she murmured. "But I always find him one way or another. You're the first person I've ever seen him here with," she stated with a smile.
I smirked at Billy and he shuffled his feet in the gravel path while looking down, clearly still embarrassed.
"Then I'm honored," I murmured as I glanced at Billy, a small smile showing on my face.
Billy's head jerked up to meet my gaze and he smiled, his embarrassment diminishing slightly.
"That's not how it works, Dear," Mrs. Phelts stated. "He should be honored to be here with you," she said, pointing at Billy.
I stifled a laugh as Billy shook his head, a small smile still showing on his face.
"Well," Penelope began. "I'm gonna go catch up with Luisa since she left me in the dust. You two kids have fun and be safe," she said as she began walking towards Luisa, waving back at us as she did so.
Billy and I watched Penelope catch up to Luisa for a few moments before I spoke up.
"So, you're always talking about me, huh?" I asked while raising an eyebrow, a smirk present on my face.
Billy flashed me a small smile before responding playfully, "Shut up."
I giggled as I followed him to wherever he was leading me. He put his hand at the small of my back as we walked across the street, and I didn't mind. Usually I would flinch when people would touch me. I even flinched when Billy sat next to me on the couch when Austin, Matt, and Kellan left. But now was different. Now was...new, but also old, and I couldn't explain it.
"Where are we going?" I asked as we reached the sidewalk. He lead us to the left after reaching the end of the crosswalk.
"I don't really know," he murmured with a smile. "I'm just enjoying the, uh- What's the word?" He questioned as he shook his head. He then jolted his head up and waved his arms in front of his face as he exclaimed, "The atmosphere!"
I giggled as he lead us on. I peered to my right to see shops, cafes, restaurants, and everything anyone could ever want.
"If you see something you want to check out, let me know," he insisted.
I peered over my shoulder at the small cafe we had just passed and got an idea. I grabbed his right hand with my left and pulled him along with me, giggling as I opened the door to the cafe.
The inside of the cafe was light blue with mismatched chairs and tables, and straight ahead of the door a little ways was a glass case that held all kinds of different treats.
I placed my hands on the glass case as I peered inside, my mind filled with delight at all of the possibilities.
"There's so many," I whispered as I gazed at all of the different assortments of cookies, cupcakes, muffins, and everything else they had to offer. I looked to my left to see Billy simply smiling at me, and that was when I saw it. "Oh my god!" I gasped, moving to the left of Billy to see what I truly desired. "Billy," I sighed, placing my hands on the glass. "They have red velvet cupcakes."
Billy walked over to me, smiling an even wider smile when he saw my reaction.
"I need one," I sighed. "Do you see anybody that works here?" I asked him as I gazed over the glass case to peer into the kitchen.
"I think he does," Billy said nonchalantly as he pointed to the older gentleman who was walking over to us.
I smiled as he reached us from the other side of the glass case.
"How may I help you?" He asked with a wide grin.
I giggled and pointed to the red velvet cupcakes. "Can I have a red velvet cupcake?" I asked.
"Of course," he responded as he gently took one out of the case and put it on a small plastic plate. "And for you?" He asked, glancing at Billy.
"Um," Billy murmured as he glanced around the case. "Y'know, I'll have the same," he responded with a smile.
The man smiled back. "Two red velvet cupcakes for the young couple, coming right up," he cheered as he brought the two cupcakes on the plates over to the counter for us to pay.
I simply giggled in response along with Billy.
"How much?" Billy asked as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket.
"I'll pay," I insisted as I began taking my credit card out of my phone case.
Billy raised an eyebrow at me and smirked. "You think I'm gonna let you pay? It may be 2016, Alice, but I'm still a gentleman, contrary to popular belief," he remarked.
I rolled my eyes sarcastically before offering him a small smile while putting my credit card back.
The man behind the counter simply chuckled. "Ah! Young love," he sighed. "It's going to be $7.84," he stated.
Billy smiled and handed him a twenty. "Keep it," he mumbled with a soft smile as he handed me my plate. He gently took his off of the counter and began walking towards the door with me following behind.
"Thank you!" The man called after us, causing Billy to turn around and flash him another smile as he held the door open for me.
The two of us threw our plates out in the garbage can outside of the shop as we walked along the sidewalk.
I took a bite of my cupcake and practically moaned at the flavor. "Oh my god," I gasped. "This is amazing."
Billy raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Is it that good?"
"I'm gonna do to you what you did to me," I stated as I took his cupcake and held it up to his mouth, referring to the time he had put the can of Coke up to my mouth.
"Ok! Ok! Just don't miss," Billy said as he stood still. He opened his mouth and I held the cupcake up to his mouth, laughing as I did so. He had to tilt his chin slightly upwards to take a bite out of the top of the cupcake. "Wow," he announced as he continued to chew the bite before swallowing it. "That is fucking amazing."
"Now, do you believe me?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow, handing him back his cupcake.
Billy simply smirked as he took another bite.
"You have some on your nose," I pointed out.
He went cross eyed as he looked at the tip of his nose. "Oh, Jesus," he murmured as he gazed upon his nose before taking his finger and gathering the frosting, resulting in him putting it in his mouth.
I watched him suck the frosting off of his finger, causing him to smirk at me.
"See something you like?" He asked as he wiggled his eyebrows.
It was my turn to say, "Shut up." I giggled and nudged my side into his.
"Hey!" He exclaimed as he nudged me back, causing me to bump into the wall.
"Oh! It's on," I declared as I pushed him as hard as I could, resulting in him bumping into two men and dropping his cupcake.
"I'm sorry," he apologized as the two men gave him angry looks. He looked back at me to see that I was laughing my ass off, clutching my side as I leaned against the wall to a store.
He slowly walked up to me while trying to avoid bumping into anybody else. "You made me drop my cupcake," he murmured as he pouted.
"Then I guess I'm being forced to share with you," I sighed as I rolled my eyes dramatically.
He rolled his eyes. "You don't have to if you don't want," he murmured as we started walking down the sidewalk again.
"I know," I whispered while handing him my cupcake.
He took a bite and sighed. "We need to go to that cafe more often," he said.
I nodded my head and sighed. "Yeah," I mumbled. "We."
Billy parted his lips like he was about to say something while offering me a sad look, but he stopped himself.
The two of us walked in silence while I finished the rest of my cupcake. I noticed all of the happy people around us, laughing and smiling while they held hands with their significant other, or while they simply walked with their friends.
These people had something I didn't have. These people had love. They had friends. They had something to look forward to in their lives. I didn't have anything. I wished that Austin would just leave me alone and take all of his friends with him, but I knew that that was complete and utter fiction. But if Austin did take all of his friends and leave me, then I'd be truly alone. I wouldn't have the only person I truly consider a friend.
I clasped Billy's hand within mine, causing him to give me a questioning look.
"Yeah," I sighed, a small smile forming on my lips. "We."
