Once upon a time......

There was a kingdom cursed and lived under the fear of an evil creature. The evil creature ruled the nights and mothers feared for their children because of him.

Teddy had been always a rebel and mischievous bear. He would always do the opposite to the things told to him. One day he had a huge fight with his parent bears and he ran away into the night.

“Who the honey do they think they are? They always treat me like I am some fish.” Teddy mumbled to himself walking deep into the forest.

Suddenly he heard something and fear crept into his fur. He saw a shadow moving around him. Too afraid to do anything he decided to hide. He ran as fast as he could until he saw a den. The den appeared to be different.

He took the risk and went inside and magical things begin to happen. The den was much- much bigger on the inside. The walls were speaking and the things were moving. Everything felt alive in there.

“Who are you? Get out of my castle before I kill you.” A voice barked from the inside.

“I am Teddy. I am sorry for disturbing you.” Teddy said out of courtesy but was shivering with fear.

Soon a giant bear appeared from the dark corner with scratches all over his body and his skin mutilated.

“Leave before I eat you up.” The giant bear roared. Teddy shivered but his morals held him uptight.

“No. You are hurt and mother said when someone is hurt you should never leave them until they heal.” Teddy said seriously.

The giant bear roared but Teddy held his ground. Teddy helped him and soon realised that even though the bear was scary, he was lonely. The giant bear would make weird faces when Teddy tends to him but Teddy found them funny and adorable.

“No Beasty, I am not leaving.” He would whine every time the giant bear would ask him to leave.

“I am healed. You can leave now.” The bear argued.

“But you are lonely and I don't like being alone when I felt lonely. We are same irrespective of the fact that you are much much bigger. Does this mean your heart is bigger too? No-No. We can't have that. If you will be lonely your heart will hurt a lot more than mine because it is so big.” Teddy reasoned thinking thoughtfully.

The days passed away and Teddy and Beasty became good friends. Until one dreadful night, Teddy heard voices of bears growling. He looked for Beasty but he was nowhere to be seen. Then he saw his father and mother running towards him.

He was surprised when he saw them running towards him.

“My poor baby, the beast prisoned you this whole time. He shall pay for his mistake.” His father gritted. His eyes widened when he realised they were talking about Beasty.

“No. No, he is not....” He stopped when he saw Beasty chained and bleeding. The others bears were pulling the chains which made Beasty hiss in pain. Teddy screamed in agony.

“He is not a beast. He never hurt me and he is my friend. Stop. Why would you think he would hurt me?” He asked his mother confused.

“Look at him. He looks hideous and horrid. His appearance proceeds him.” His mother spat as if the creature chained in front of her was made to be hated in the first place.

“Appearances are deceiving, mother. Would you have killed me too if I looked like him?” Teddy asked angrily. His mother gasped.

He went to the giant bear and called for him. Nothing happened. He wasn’t answering... nor breathing. Tears strolled down Teddy’s cheeks and he couldn’t believe that his parents were ready to kill someone just because he looks.... different. 

He remembered the time Beasty and he would walk into the woods and eat food together and the weird faces Beasty would make. He cried harder. He remembered the time Beasty would tell him stories.

“Stories...” Teddy said to himself. “I know what to do. I know how to bring him back.” Teddy said happily while other bears stared at him. “A true loves kiss. He told me it would bring your loved ones back.”

He placed his lips on the dead ones and kissed him with all his might.

Nothing happened.

He tried again and again but nothing happened.

“I am sorry, son.” He heard his mother and felt her arms around him.

“No. He promised he would always heal. He can’t die! You can't Beasty! Don’t leave me. I love you! Please, wake up. Wake up for me.” He cried again and again. He felt like he would die too. His heart was crushing and aching inside him.

And soon he heard a gasp. The beast had woken up and he was breathing. It wasn’t the only thing that changed. The curse was lifted off and dens turned into houses and castles and bears changed into humans.

“You broke the curse.” Beasty said smiling.  “The tears of a loved one with the purest heart would bring magic more powerful than any curse. You brought love Teddy, the most powerful magic of all.” Beasty said looking at Teddy.

The kingdom soon gets settled remembering the curse and their prince. Teddy and Beasty, who was Prince Harris a long time ago, took their places ruling the castle.

“Where are we going, Beasty?” Teddy asked Prince Harris.

“We have reached.” Prince Harris announced. “This is the place where I saw you for the first time. You were so scared.”  He chuckled while Teddy gasped.

“It was you.” Teddy pouted.

“Yes, it was me and I never regretted that moment. This is the place that helped me reach you and I want this to be the place for my proposal.” Prince Harris said bending on his knee and pulling out a ring. “Will you marry me and give me the honour to spend my eternity loving you?”

Teddy nodded quickly and soon the wedding took place. They gave each other the wedding kiss under the same tree they saved and found each other, thereby, living happily ever after.......

This story basically carries the idea of beauty falling for a beast, of loving someone out of pure honesty and heart and not due to some mere context like beauty, money or fame.

A wise man once said, “No beauty shines brighter than a good heart.”
