4. The girlfriend will save us all
Amity always woke up early. Once upon a time, it was because she would study all she could before the girl even had breakfast. Now it was just out of habit. But today it proved to be very useful to her as she saw Luz had sent her a message.
[I wish life was a gatcha. The more times you miss your shot, the closer you are to get it. I feel like I've even LESS chances to make it than last night…]
Yikes… That sure wasn't the morning greeting she was used to… Luz was one of the most optimistic people on this planet and the number of times Amity saw her this worried was below the single digit. Then again, there's no manual to be a sister…
When noticing the green light on Luz's icon, Amity immediately sent a videocall invite. The latina needed some cheering and her loving girlfriend was going to give her some.
It took about 0.5 seconds (give or take human reaction time but who cares) for the adorable face of Luz to appear on screen and immediately Amity's chest was warm. The latina had tired eyes but still smiled back at her with these tender eyes the Blight would never get tired of.
"Hey Ams." the girl said with a voice softer than your cat's furr.
"Hey Luzu. How are you?"
Luz chuckle to the nickname and while she leaned, Amity could see the Nocedas' kitchen behind her before the other girl would answer.
"I wanted to make a good breakfast for Vee to apologize. So far I've burned eggs, burned pancakes and even burned grilled cheese. So I gave up and just put waffles in the toaster."
"If you ask me, that's destiny helping you. Waffles is always the good choice"
Amity used all her strength not to laugh. It was very hard but she somehow pulled it off. Luz needed encouragements, not teasing
She would tease her later.
"Hey Ams? Honestly, I'm out of ideas. I wish I could just give her something she'd like so we could start on new ground but yesterday she would barely tell me a word so I have no idea what she could possibly like and I know she won't tell me which means she won't feel better with me wich means I'm already the worst sister ever and..."
"Calm down Luz" Amity with a warm voice. "I know for a fact you can warm up anyone you'll ever meet. You just gotta keep a cool head she her you care."
"Thanks Amity."
The smile her girlfriend made at that moment was so beautiful Amity took a screenshot without even realizing it and kept talking with now a brand new blush on her cheeks.
"If you don't know what she likes, maybe you should bring her to your job? This place has so much stuff, there's just gotta be something she'll like and you can offer it to her."
"Yeah, that could work. I mean that shop is basically another world so everything is possible."

Why? Why for the love of whatever bastard up there had she agreed to come? They had been walking for half an hour already and Vee could swear those 30 minutes would have been more enjoyable if she had stayed home. Who cares if she was simply laying on the couch doing nothing? It was still more pleasant than this.
First of all, she had made the terrible mistake of putting on a big jacket. Not exactly a choice since she wouldn't never feel even remotely safe outside with her arms uncovered. Not that she felt much safe with it but at least it was something. Probleme being it was summer and she was cooking alive.
Also, this town was loud. Okay her old neighborhood was a thousand times louder than that but that's exactly why she would always stay in her room. Here, Vee had the sound of all the cars, the birds who would never shut up probably even in front of a fox for how annoying they were, and even the kids playing soccer when they walked by the parc.
Oh how much Vee hated this and yet for some unknown reason that could only be the work of an omnipotent being who enjoyed this twisted situation (guilty your honor), she had agreed to follow Luz. Okay to be fair Luz looked sincere sorry for the previous night and insisted on bringing her to this place she was certain Vee would like so she had begrudgingly agreed to come. Vee had next to no hope she would like the place but at least… No there wasn't any positive.
But maybe, just maybe, it felt nice that someone wanted to make her happy for once…
That's when Luz finally stopped walking in front of an old and small building.
"Vee, welcome to the owl house!"
