chapter six

"Maybe we could go back to your place?" Michael asked, and I immediately shook my head.

"Nah, my parents are having issues." I sighed.

"Issues about?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow.

We just got done seeing a movie, and I bought the snacks while he bought the tickets.

"So about two years ago, there was this dude named Teddy. He was a college kid, like us, but in a frat. They moved into the house next door to us, and got into a huge fight with my parents on whether they can be super loud or not. It was annoying." I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, they ended up moving out, and my parents are trying to find another house because they're having another kid. I think I've mentioned that you to before. But either way, we can't sell our house until we show our neighborhood is good and all this shit, and recently some new girls are throwing parties of their own in that house."

"So it's like a cycle?" Michael asked.

"Yeah. A never ending, stupid cycle." I leaned my head back on the seat. "I'd much rather go to your house instead of mine. I don't feel like dragging you into that just yet. You'll probably see some of it tomorrow night when you come over for dinner."

"Eh, it won't make me like you any less." Michael smiled over at me. "And I mean, we can definitely go to my house but my parents work night shifts so I didn't know if you were okay and comfortable with coming to my house if it'll be just us."

"No it's okay. I don't mind. Anywhere but my house is ideal at the moment." I let out a chuckle, although I meant every word of it.

Mikey nodded, starting the car and pulling out of the movie theater parking lot. It was silent in the car, minus the sound of the radio playing throughout the speakers. We were riding with the top down again, and I've decided that this was something I've grown to love.

It felt nice, the wind blowing through my hair. I would be able to focus on keeping my hair out of my eyes when we'd turn a corner or go against the wind, and it would get my mind off of Teddy or Nash or any other thought that passed my mind in the past few hours.

"You know, you look peaceful when you ride in my car." Michael told me, glancing over at me every once in a while with a small smile on his face.

"Maybe because I am. It makes me feel free." I raised my hand up, letting the wind blow through it.

"Well, you look free." He pulled into a neighborhood, the wind dying down slightly.

Pulling my hand back down, I noticed I had a few texts from Teddy, apologizing for how he acted on the phone earlier. I'd deal with it later, not spoiling my time with Michael to deal with Teddy drama. I've had enough issues with him, I've had enough of the yelling and the crying and the hurting. In the past few days that I've known Michael, I've felt much happier than I have in a long time.

And that's saying something.

"Well, here we are." Michael's voice interrupted my thoughts as he put the top on before shutting off the car.

We got out and I stopped a moment to admire his house, it looked huge! It was at least twice as big as mine, and in the back of my mind I didn't know why I was so surprised when he has a really nice car, and on top of that has a really nice clothing style.

"You good?" He questioned, looking back at me.

I nodded with a smile, following him up to the steps and watched as he sorted through his keys to find his house key. Once he found it he unlocked the door in what looked to be one swift movement, before opening the door to let me in.

Once I got in, he shut the door behind us, throwing his keys on the table next to the door.

"Nice house." I complimented, looking around.

"I know, it's giant." He let out a sigh. "My parents work all day and night. Never get to see them."

"I'm sorry, that really sucks." I bit the inside of my lip.

"No no, it's okay. I'm not going to tell you my sob story. Let's watch a movie?" He suggested, changing the subject.

I nodded, and he motioned for me to follow him. He led me to a room, and the moment he turned the lights on I was starstruck. It was a movie room, with soft, comfy looking chairs and a giant screen.

"This is where the party's at!" Michael joked. "I'm kidding. We rarely use this room."

"Rarely? I would use this all the time if I had a room like this!" I gawked, smiling as I ran to one of the chairs in the front.

I jumped into it, a fresh scent engulfing me as I shut my eyes against the soft fabric.

"This is amazing." I commented, practically hugging the seat.

"I'm guessing you like it?" Michael asked, walking over to what looked like a closet.

"No, no not it all." I joked, turning and sitting comfortably in the seat.

"Would you like some refreshments?" Michael asked as he brought a giant blanket over to our seats.

"Um, what do you have?" I asked.

"Water, apple juice, um, chips? I think. I don't know, here, let's go look." He held his hand out to me, and I thankfully took it as he led me out of the movie room and into the kitchen.

His kitchen was huge, but by now I wasn't even surprised. The entire house was gigantic, and I couldn't help but continue to gawk at everything.

"This is, wow I'm so shook." I couldn't help but say, and Michael let go of my hand to open the fridge.

He let out a chuckle. "Still surprised about the house? It's okay, you'll get used to it soon."

I playfully scoffed, and he pulled out some water bottles.

"I got these, and some Kool-Aid packets?" He suggested, and I smiled with a nod.

"Sounds good."

He sat the bottles on the counter and pulled out some of the packets from the cabinet, quickly adding them into the bottles and shaking them up.

"What kind of movies you like?" He questioned. "Like I know we've seen a few together, but we have like, every genre so you can choose."

Handing me the water bottle, he grabbed a bag of chips out of the pantry and I followed him back into the movie room.

"Movies are over there." He pointed to a bunch of shelves full of movies, and I walked over and gently shook the water bottle as I looked through the movies.

Finding the original Spider-Man, I smiled as I pulled it off of the shelf and carried it over to him.

"Classic." He smiled down at me, and it was one of the cutest smiles I've ever seen.

Sitting back down in the spot I chose before we got snacks, I took a big drink out of my bottle, setting it in the cup holder to my right as Michael quickly put the movie in and turned the lights out, sitting in the seat to my left.

"You like Marvel?" He asked.

"Of course. Big, big fan." I smiled, as Mikey unraveled the blanket and threw it on us.

"Well, me too. I've seen all of them multiple times." He replied.

It got quiet between us, and we began to watch the movie together. I got this warm feeling in my stomach, and looked out of the corner of my eye to see Michael glancing over at me every once in a while.

Looking over at him fully, I couldn't help but smile. "What?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, nothing, it's just- you look so pretty." He blushed, and I couldn't help but bite the inside of my lip.

"Thanks." I mumbled, looking down.

He lifted my face up with his finger. "No, I mean it Kiya. You're really pretty. Even when you're sitting there doing nothing."

Without thinking, I rested my hand on his neck, gently pulling him toward me, connecting our lips.
