Eve POV
I'm out to dinner with Kris who invited me out.
Her and her boyfriend are now engaged. I'm happy for her, she deserves to have the guy that wants to settle down.
"So," Kris starts. "How's Avery?"
"I assume well," I say. My friends eyebrows knot.
"Is she still being fussy with you?" Kris asks through a shrug.
"Yep. It seems to be getting worse more and more everyday," I say through a sigh. I stir my almost gone Pepsi and look back to my friend.
"Is it like when you hold her she cries?" She asks me.
"Hold her, change her, breath around her, everything," I say sadly. "It just drives me crazy because I don't know what I'm doing wrong," I say through a huff.
"I bet she'll come around," My friend assures me. I'm tired of people saying that to me because it's been months and she hasn't. I brush off my friends assurance and change the topic.
"Are you and uh Travis planning the wedding yet?" I ask her.
"We decided on a location, and date. It will be next year, May on the 15th," My friend says with happiness. "I always wanted a spring wedding and that's a perfect time to do it. I'm so excited. I need to go dress shopping soon,"
"You have a year to get the dress," I say to my friend.
"But I want the good dress, Eve," Kris says like it's obvious. "I might get my dream dress over the summer though, that's when the sexy dresses are in stock,"
"Is this what you think about in your free time?" I ask my friend.
"Yeah," She sighs. "But, just thinking about my wedding makes me all happy. Don't you ever have those thoughts?"
"No, because I'm not getting married," I say through a chuckle.
"He'll propose soon," My friend hums.
"Doubt it," I mumble. "You're getting married and his best friend is, I think if he were to propose it should be after those weddings we attend," I say.
"So, you have thought about it?" My friends eyebrow raises.
"No, I haven't," I say. "I'm just saying in general. It's like fucking wedding season now," Kris chuckles at my joke and sips her drink.
"And I love it. I'm having so much fun planning my wedding. Our honeymoon is going to be in Paris then Italy. How romantic," Kris gushes.
"Am I going to have to hear about this for the next year?" I ask her.
"Yep," She grins. "I'll be right back, I need to pee,"
"Have fun," I murmur with a snicker. Kris excuses herself from the table and heads to the bathrooms. A moment or so later, the waiter comes by and asks me if I want a refill.
"Can I actually have that drink?" I ask while pointing to the ice tea that looks good. It's at the table beside us.
"The Long Island ice tea?" He asks.
"If that's what it's called, then yes." I say. I never heard of that ice tea before. Maybe it's new.
"Okay, I'll bring that out for you," I give him a gentle smile and nod.
I wonder what it will taste like. I usually get raspberry ice tea so I'm excited.
I sound like such a loser. I'm excited to drink ice tea.
***
I've been at the restaurant with Kris now for hours. I've slowly been acting different with each refill I get of this new ice tea I have tried.
Currently, my head is foggy and my words are slurry. I don't know if that's normal.
"Eve, uh, what have you been drinking?" Kris asks me.
"I don't know," I say through laughter. "It tastes amazing though," I sip the rest of my ice tea.
The waiter comes by with the check. "Excuse me but uh, what has she been ordering?" My friend asks.
"The Long Island ice tea," He answers before walking away.
"Eve, you've been drinking?" She asks with wide eyes. "You never drink,"
"I-I thought it was a regular ice tea," I admit. "But wow did it taste good. Have you ever tried it?" I ask.
"Yes and three glasses of it and I was passed out. Fuck, how didn't you know it was alcohol?"
"I don't know what alcoholic drinks exist," I say through a giggle. "I've only had three or four refills," I say.
"And after the first one you didn't know?"
"I don't know anymore," I say. "This is the most relaxed I've ever felt, you know? Like, I can't even think, I feel loose as a goose," I exclaim with wide eyes. "Fun fact panda's have thumbs,"
"We need to get you home. You are wasted,"
"I'm not wasted. I'm quite sober," I defend through a mumbled slur. I start laughing at myself and lean back in the booth. "Wait, am I drunk?"
"You are indeed," Kris says while standing.
"How? I've never had a drink in my life," I exclaim. "Wait am I high or drunk?"
"Drunk, Eve," She wraps her arm around my waist and helps me walk.
"I feel high," I giggle. "Well, or drunk. Either way I don't feel normal," I laugh.
"You're a happy drunk," My friend observes. "I knew you weren't drinking ice tea," She scolds herself.
"I'm fine," I assure her. "I think this is the best I've felt in months actually," I admit. "Like who needs a daughter that hates them right? Those drinks make you feel fun and happy,"
"Okay, lets get you in the car. Where are your keys?"
"In my purse, which I'm holding in my left hand," I say through a slur. "My boyfriend got me this car. I even have a uh car seat thing for the kid that hates me. She's never in it because she doesn't like me,"
"You're also an emotional drunk," Kris reaches into my purse and grabs my keys. I soon get into my car and lay my head back on the head rest in the car.
"We should go to Vegas," I exclaim.
"Vegas?" Kris laughs.
"Yeah, lets go now,"
"Maybe another day," She chuckles. My friend puts on my seat belt. "You're a true friend you know? You'll be here till the end,"
"Quoting Hannah Montana now?" My friend asks.
"Yep, cause she got the best of both worlds," I say. "I want a coloring book. Can I get a coloring book?"
"Why do you want a coloring book?" Kris asks.
"Cause I want to color in a book," I exclaim with wide eyes. "Can I crayons to go with it? Can we stop by the store to get them?" I slur. I feel like I'm getting more drunk actually, if that's even possible.
"Lets just get you home,"
"I don't want to go home," I say. "Home is where my kid is and I'm tired of her crying. I just want her to stop crying,"
"You have to go home," Kris glances at me.
"What time is it?" I ask.
"Nearly ten,"
"Oh," I giggle.
"Why?" My friend asks while stopping at the red light.
"I told my boyfriend I'd be home at eight," I laugh. "Oh that's funny. Should I call him? I'll call him,"
I take out my phone that's in my purse and type in my password. My eyes squint at the screen and I find Harry's contact and call him.
I press my phone against my ear and hear the phone ring. He soon answers. "Eve, where are you?"
"I'm in a car," I say. "It's moving now," I giggle.
"Have you not got any of my texts?" He sounds angry.
"No," I say. "Well, maybe I did. I haven't read them though,"
"Eve, are you drunk?" Harry asks.
"I don't know. Are you drunk?"
"Where the hell are you?"
"I'm in a car, that's moving," I repeat.
"I mean, what street are you on,"
"A straight one," I answer. I hear Harry shrug at my answer. "I'm getting a coloring book so I can color in the book," I laugh at myself and lay my head back down on the seat.
"Is Kris driving you home?"
"Yep! She's a good driver. Did you know that?" I slur.
"No, and I don't care. Just get home,"
"I am getting home," I say. "Didn't I already tell you that I'm in a moving car?" Harry doesn't say anything for a while. "Harry?"
"What?" He snaps.
"You're snappy like a snapping bird," I observe.
"I'm not in the greatest mood Eve,"
"I'm in the best mood," I pep up. "I can't wait to tell you about it,"
"Uhuh, see you soon,"
"Okay!" I exclaim. I hang up the phone and look to Kris. "He needs a hug,"
"I bet," She chuckles and continues driving.
