niko was still scrubbing at her eyeliner when there was a knock on the door.

she forgot to take her makeup off before falling asleep and now suffered the consequences. honestly, she loved the day-before makeup look, but her pillowcase did not agree.

"i'll get it!" chiyo called from the hallway, and niko shouted back thanks as she pulled a sweater from the floor over her white tank top. the end of her toothbrush was hanging out of her mouth, causing her words to come out muffled.

niko spit the remaining toothpaste into her sink and finished tugging at her clothes as she stumbled out into the hallway, bag flung around her shoulder. to her misfortune, she just so happened to walk in on haechan leaning against her doorway, arms over his chest and eyebrow raised as he eyed her younger sister.

"hello there," haechan grinned, emphasizing half of his greeting for a sultry effect.

chiyo flashed a sweet smile before shouting, "nik, the perverts are here!"

the said girl stifled her laugh for only a second before watching the two boys' faces morph into shock and disgust. she let out a loud cackle and pressed her palm to her mouth to try and quiet her uncontrollable laughter.

"wh—i'm not a pervert?!"

"you have the pervert look in your eyes." chiyo stated with her arms thrown over her chest, her chin raised in defiance.

haechan looked highly offended. "no, i don't!"

"whatever," the short orange-haired girl rolled her eyes. "just take my sister and get out of here. if you don't have her back before dark, i will stab you in your sleep."

"yes, ma'am."

"so? what do you think?"

haechan stepped aside for niko to get a full look at the office, and her breath caught in her throat. there wasn't any furniture besides a long, white desk covered in computers, wires, and other appliances that needed setting up. the walls were such a light shade of grey that they looked white, and the carpet was stiff and the color of storm clouds. still, niko could feel her heart swelling with pride.

"it isn't a lot right now, but i think you'll like it much more after we decorate!" taeyong exclaimed, as if he was trying to cheer her up.

niko shook her head. this office, no matter how bare, was bigger than her bedroom at home. the last and only office she'd ever had was about the size of a supplies closet. to her, it was more than enough.

"i love it," she said honestly, glancing between haechan, taeyong, and the room surrounding them. "it's perfect. really."

"glad she likes it, 'cause this place is a dumb—ow!" haechan whined when taeyong pinched his arm.

niko smiled at the interaction. she didn't know when she grew so comfortable in the older's presence, but it was nice. he didn't talk to her like she was a liar or a mess, and he didn't look at her like she was damaged goods. niko really liked how being with taeyong felt genuine, even if he was just a future colleague. haechan, whom she'd known for a short time, had grown on her quickly as well.

catching the girl's upturned lips, haechan cooed. "aw, you look so pretty when you smile—ow! stop hitting me, i'm being genuine!"

niko sighed and turned so that her back was facing the room. "it's fine, thank you. now, let's start taking measurements for this office. i want to see what you two come up with."
