Chapter Two

Adrien angrily swung the door open as Marinette followed behind him. He was grumbling, and she was waiting for him to say actual words. The longer they went without speaking, the more the tension grew in the room.

Marinette walked into the kitchen and made herself a glass of water. Gulping it down, she sat herself down at the chairs before the cold counters. The bluenette had already known that whatever happened tonight that it wouldn't end well.

She was usually quite cheerful after she had alcohol in her system, but she's been told about how rudely and quickly she responded when insulted or angered.

"I can't believe you" Adrien spat finally.

Marinette rolled her eyes, her lips showing no sign of being lifted.

"What, what can't you believe, huh? What did I do wrong this time? Did I step on your toes?" She provoked, spinning around in her seat.

Adrien sneered, facing her. He couldn't believe her! Anger pulsed through him, powering his every motive. Taking a deep breath, he tried to stabilize his feelings. He couldn't afford to be akumatized now.

"I don't know Marinette, let's backtrack, shall we? A little trip down Memory Lane?"

"Don't treat me like a child" Marinette warned, pressing her hand against the counter and standing.

"Maybe if you didn't act like one, I wouldn't have to treat you as one" Adrien scowled at her, scrunching up his nose.

Marinette was a lot of things, but dumb wasn't one of them. Adrien was well aware of the fact, and it only threw salt into the wound. The fashion designer knew what she had been doing when she went out.

But of all people, it had to be Luka. Adrien didn't hate Luka, in fact, the blonde found Luka to be a great guy. Any girl that hooks up with him would be lucky. Especially considering how he turns down many of them who beg to be his girlfriend.

Adrien saw how Luka looked at Marinette. The very same way Nino looked at Alya when she wasn't looking. The model knew he and Mari haven't looked at each other like that in a while. Their kisses have become forced and her smile never reached her eyes.

Despite all of that, he already knew how the argument would end. She would forgive him, he would forgive her, then life would move on as nothing happened. Even if something had changed in her eyes, he didn't think the outcome would be changed.

"Listen here, Adrien, I didn't do anything wrong. I went out with friends to relax. When's the last time we did that? Oh yeah, months. Why? Do you just not like me anymore?" She questioned, waving her arms around.

Her flow of questions didn't stop, causing Adrien to yell "Stop!"

Marinette blinked at him, surprise in her slightly wide bluebell eyes. Hurt flashed across her eyes before it was placed with an icy cold exterior.

"Then tell me, Adrien. Tell me whatever thoughts are happening in your foolish brain." The bluenette demanded.

Adrien stalked into the living room, and Marinette followed him angrily. The blonde paced the carpeted floor as the fashion designer crossed her arms tightly over her chest. He ran his hands through his blonde locks, then stopping to pull the hair at the nape of his neck.

"You where dancing with him" Adrien mumbled finally.

Marinette raised one eyebrow, not moving from her spot.

"What was that?" She questioned, poison dripping into her every word.

"You were dancing with him Marinette!" He burst. The blonde pivoted on his heel and jabbed his finger in her direction accusingly. "You where out having "fun" with your "friends". I didn't know that Luka was suddenly such a big part of your life. He comes back once in what, four years? And you were already all over him" Adrien shook his head in disgust.

Marinette thought she was aggravated before, but it was nothing compared to now. He obviously didn't trust her, so why was she putting herself through this? All the crap he puts her through?

The bluenette searched deep within herself to find that answer. His eyes. The first thing that attracted her to him. It wasn't the shade, it wasn't the endless dept into them. It was how they were like a short cut to seeing into his soul. Like instead of blindly reading a titless book on a shelf, she got to read the summary.

Looking into his eyes now, she didn't have a chance to see that. Not past the gate and wall, he built against her. He never let her in, as if he had so much more to hide from her. And it hurt her more then she would ever tell him.

"Since we've been together, I've danced with plenty of boys. At prom, I danced with Nathaniel, at the bar I danced with Nino a few times, and-"

"I don't care about them" Adrien cut her off, pacing again.

And the truth was, he actually didn't. Nino loved Alya more then  Jagged Stone loved his crocodile. Nathaniel, well after being rejected the first time, the redhead learned that he really did appreciate Marinette as a friend. Any other boys Adrien didn't care about, they were like meaningless nobodies.

Luka on the other hand, he didn't learn Marinette as only a friend. Adrien saw it in both of them when their eyes connected and he was always swift to get her attention away from him. But tonight, the blonde didn't stop it. And he watched as his girlfriend almost found a reason to leave him.

"Then what do you care about Adrien? If not about me, then what about our future kids? Our friends? My family?" She couldn't stop the movement of her arms as they moved almost like a different living thing in her body all together.

"I don't think I ever want kids" Adrien snarled.

"I am going to pretend you didn't say that so we can still be together"

He stopped to glare at her. She couldn't begin to understand his side of this. Even though he thought she'd be the one to get his feelings the most, she didn't. Even after all they had been through.

"I don't see kids being in my future any time soon. Which means you don't either" The blonde stated, turning his back to her to stare out the window.

His cold words caused something to snap inside of Marinette. All she ever dreamed about since a little girl was being a fashion designer and having a family. She had her wedding planned out since fifteen, her children name chosen by eleven, and even an idea on what type of hamster they would get.

Having kids was the biggest part of any of that. She wanted a sweet little boy looked like his father, but also still resembled her. She wanted to be able to snuggle him and love him and teach him how to sew and ride a bike. The bluenette knew for a fact that was what she needed, and she wasn't going to wait until her last few years of being fertile to do it.

"Tell me the truth when you answer this. And if you don't, I swear to god I'll leave" Marinette said through gritted teeth. Not looking at her, he gave a slight nod of his head.

The bluenette clenched and unclenched her jaw before talking just loud enough for him to hear.

"Did you ever see yourself having a family with me even after.....?" She trailed off but he knew exactly what she was talking about.

Adrien squeezed his eyes closed after hearing her small fragile voice. She was his world, and he could hear that world falling apart. Turning around slowly, his green eyes met her blue.

    "Marinette I-"

"Answer the question" Marinette spat out. "Just answer the damn question Adrien"

She didn't want to hear the answer. Not knowing that it could ruin everything they have. But it has to be discussed. It couldn't be thrown to the side anymore. She needed an answer and she needed it now.

"No" The blonde's answer was short and sweet, but it caused her insides to go numb and her mouth to taste like vile.

"But baby, I always used to see us having a family. Having that hamster you always wanted, three kids that were the most beautiful things on earth, and a house where they could play without it having to be on the sidewalk" His eyes softened as he imagined it.

"Then what changed" Marinette whispered, feeling the familiar sting in her eyes.

Adrien's eyes refused to meet hers, not even giving the bluenette a glance into how he felt.

"Hearing your screams, your wails echoe everywhere. Seeing you so.... so broken over something you were never meant to have...." His words drifted out as the memory replayed itself.

    "How could you say that?"

It was a stab in his heart to hear her like this. Hearing her voice go from strong and confident to a person who had a little girl on the inside that needed to be hugged and reassured.

Adrien didn't respond to her question, and he returned to his tense position at the window.

Whipping the tears away from her eyes, Marinette rushed to their room. She pulled out a pale pink suitcase and began to pull things out of the drawers. Shirts, pants, underwear, socks.

    "Marinette"

The bluenette only stopped her frantic packing to look up at her red friend. Tikki floated in the air, staring at her holder in concern.

"Marinette, is this what you want?"

And that's what the bluenette loved about Tikki. It wasn't "is this right or wrong". Marinette could hardly go wrong with the kwami when things were based off what she wanted or thought.

"I don't know, Tikki" Her voice cracked, but she hardly paid any attention to it. "But I do know I need to get away from him. I can't be here like this"

The kwami nodded in understanding and lowered herself beside the suitcase. Marienette didn't bother to fight back her tears or the sobs that escaped her lips. It was a little much for her to take in.

The bluenette had no idea how long she would be gone. Whether the problem was figured out tomorrow or next week she didn't know. But at the moment, she didn't care. Zipping it up, she tugged her red coat on. Tikki flew into her pocket as she rushed out with her bag in hand.

"Where do you think you're going?" Adrien asked from the window, scowling at her bag.

"Anywhere you're not" Marinette stuck her nose up as she walked to the door.

The blonde rushed to grab her hand, pulling her to a stop. She attempted to pull herself away from him, but she was to upset you properly get away.

"Marinette, we can work this out. You need to stay here"  He stated, firmly digging his feet into the ground.

"Do you want to have kids with me?" She asked.

Adrien waited for a second, searching for a truthful answer that would please her. But there wasn't one. And he promised he would never lie to her.

     "No"

Marinette tugged her wrist again, trying to find the strength Ladybug would have to get away.

    "Adrien let her go"

The blonde looked up at the black kwami, whose arms were crossed.

"Let her go Adrien" Plagg repeated, frowning.

"I can't deal with this anymore!" The model cried out, losing his grip on her hand and using it to run it through his hair.

"Then you won't! Were through!" The bluenette yelled back, breaking the necklace off of her neck. Throwing her necklace to the ground.

The fashion designer ran out of the apartment, her bag in her hand and Tikki saying reassuring things from her pocket.

"She'll be back." Adrien thought as she walked off. He turned back to the window, watching the storm of white twirl in the inky black sky.

He heard Plagg yawn behind him and grumbling before he went off in the apartment somewhere.

"She always does. There is no way we can actually be over. Right?"
