Chapter Twenty-Seven

"I don't understand." Chat Noir stated as he tilted his head to the side. "Why did you come here? Aren't you supposed to be-"

"Chaat." Ladybug whined as she dropped her head against his well-sculpted back. "You're too talkative, you can't go saying stuff."

She pouted a bit and the blonde laughed. "You're right Bugaboo. You're about to turn back. Let's take this to your place, shall we Master Fu?"

Master Fu nodded with a smile and waved them to follow. Askook could feel his head begin to pound as he groggily followed them. The streets had turned back to normal and he was pleased to see his jeep was fine. Not a dent in sight. But there also wasn't a Marinette insight.

"Now would be a good time to detransform." Master Fu pointed out as he led them to a narrow alleyway not too far from his shop. He looked at the three heroes expectantly, eyebrows raised.

"Sass scales dissolve," Askook said at that same time as Chat Noir said claws in. In a flash of green, Master Fu, Luka, and Adrien stood. Ladybug was the only still transformed with her body draped over Adrien's.

Adrien let out a laugh and tilted his head towards Master Fu. "I'm not sure how to proceed." He admitted, glancing at Luka from the corner of his eye. What was the look for, curiosity? What was there to be curious about?

Master Fu pulled his eyebrows together and thought and tapped his fingers against his chin. Wayzz, Sass, and Plagg messed around while the old man contemplated what to do. Luka couldn't focus enough to contemplate what the problem was, so he just watched the kwamis fly around.

Without realizing it, Luka had cupped his hands together and lifted them. The kwamis saw this and Sass lowered himself to rest. The others followed, briefly introducing themselves. (He quickly learned Plagg was Adrien's kwami.) Despite the fact that they were flying around moments ago, they yawned and looked extremely tired.

"Well, you can't take her home, that would raise suspicion in her civilian life. And she doesn't desire to have her identity known by the other heroes." He turned his brown eyes towards Luka. "Perhaps..." He hesitated. "We should have you close your eyes. I know that it may not be pleasant, but it is the only solution I can think of for now."

Luka was not pleased, to say the least. He was struggling to keep his eyes open as it is, but closing them would not end well. Especially his body aching and his legs that were as heavy as lead. But he sighed and closed his eyes. The kwamis left his hands, except for one, which he assumed was Sass.

"Thank you. We are not far, I assure you."

"Tikki." Ladybug mumbled. She was on Adrien's back with her legs wrapped around his waist and arms draped over his shoulders. "Spots off."

Ladybug sighed, and he assumed she was in her civilian form. A small high pitched voice began to scold Ladybug. Luka would have laughed if he had any energy left. He didn't know that the kwamis did do that, the ones he had been talking to weren't the type to scold so he assumed none of them did. Just how many kwamis were there?

"What did I tell you about transforming when you don't have any sleep? I've told you a million times, you should be able to repeat it by now." The voice exclaimed.

Who was it, Ladybug's kwami? Was it Tikki? He kept in mind to ask Sass later. He could have sworn he heard the before.

"'Transforming is even more draining when I'm tired. I'm not helping as much as I think I am, and could even get myself killed.' But you know what Tikki? Luka was tired too." Ladybug groaned.

And he just got thrown under the bus. It wasn't like everyone didn't already know, but that wasn't the point.

"I'm not his kwami, he can do as he pleases. But you and I have discussed this. It's not just for your physical, it's mentally draining too." The high pitched voice sighed.

"Luka, how would you like us to help you get there?" Master Fu asked from the mouth of the alleyway.

At first, Luka figured that he could navigate himself back to Master Fu's place. After all, how hard could it be? It turns out very. The second he moved his foot, he hit it against something hard and heavy, sending bolts of pain up his leg. He hissed in pain and struggled to settle himself. A cold hand wrapped around his wrist and helped him.

"Need me to carry you, man?" Adrien asked from beside Luka. It took Luka a second to focus through the haze and grunted.

"I think... I think I'm good." The last thing he wanted for the ex-boyfriend of the girl he was pining for the carry him like a five-year-old.

"You sure? I know for a fact I can support your and Ladybug's weight. And with you being tired all well, I think it will be fine. Especially with your ankle."

Admittedly, Luka zoned out. He started to imagine his bed and how warm it was. How much warmer and smell sweeter it would smell with Marinette tangled up in the blankets with him. He wondered if she still hung out at the bakery, that was the only explanation he could think of. She smelled like freshly baked cookies and flour, normally.

While he was zoned out, he failed to notice that Adrien had scooped him up in his arms and already began walking. When he did notice, however, all he could do was grumble and tilt his head back.

"I hope Alya comes by and thinks you're kidnapping us." Luka managed. Adrien's body shook as he chuckled.

"That'd be a fun conversation, wouldn't it? 'I swear I'm not kidnapping your best friend and her boyfriend, I'm just taking them to this old man's home, who you don't know. Oh and also, they're not drugged, I swear. They just never freaking sleep apparently.'" Adrien paused, he slipped up. He held his breath and waited for Luka to notice, but it never came.

"I'll pretend I'm drugged, that'll be fun to see her react to. And when she asks who's on your back that you kidnapped, I'm going to come up with some absurd story."

Adrien snorted after he let go of the breath he was holding. He bounced Luka up to readjust him.

"Yeah, okay. That's fair. Fortunately for me though, we're here. I'm going to put you down, so brace your ankles."

"I'm not going to break." Luka huffed. His feet hit the ground, and he ignored the tingling in his ankle. Okay so Adrien had been right, he should have braced himself. But goddamned he was tired.

He heard whispers of what he assumed was the kwamis playing around. A voice came up right next to his ear causing him to jump. Luka had managed to completely forget Sass had moved there.

"Tikki wasss right. I should sscold you more." Sass said, his voice floated away for a second. "Do you have an ankle brace, Master Fu?"

"Yes, I do. give me a minute to find it."

Luka stood there awkwardly, his hands limp at his side. What was he supposed to do? It wasn't like he could see anything. That took away the only thing he had the energy to do. A hand suddenly wrapped around his wrist and tugged him down, forcing him to sit on a pillow.

"I don't know how you do it," Adrien admitted as he pulled Luka's pant leg up and slipped his shoe off. "Every time I got injured, miraculous ladybug usually heals any damage caused by the akuma. And the few times it doesn't, I almost always wear a brace or something. Being a hero is a dangerous business, even more so when you're injured."

The blonde slipped the brace on Luka's foot and tightened it. Normally, Luka would have stopped Adrien and do it himself. But he couldn't find the words to protest and instead helped roll up his jeans.

"I thought you were already wearing one of these. What happened to it?" The blonde patted his knee when he was finished and pushed himself up.

"I don't know." Luka shrugged, leaning back. "I guess I thought I didn't need it anymore."

"My medicine may have helped you heal faster, but it, unfortunately, does not help make up for how much stress your ankle can handle. Rest is what I recommend for you to get better." Master Fu interjected from a corner of the room. "But if you're not going to do so, at the very least wear the brace if you're going to be moving around a lot."

Mumbling came from behind Luka, causing him to tilt his head back. What a familiar voice that was, sounding so drowsy and unsure of the words leaving their mouth.

"... My friend." She mumbled, moving around a bit. A groan left her lips when she got comfortable. "I love my friend... the one I... My friend is..." More incoherent words left slipped from her lips before she reached a deeper level of sleep.

Master Fu and Adrien laughed, along with a kwami or two. "My dear, what happened to her? Does she not sleep?"

"I don't think she does," Adrien admitted, tossing a blanket on top of the bluenette. "When we were together she pulled all-nighters left and right. She can survive on coffee like it's nobody's business."

The chit chat lasted a little while longer, mostly consisting of Adrien filling the silence between Master Fu's question with the occasional word or two from Luka.

"I'm glad that we had this chance to get all caught up. Luka, I see we kept you here for a little too long. You may return home if you want." Master Fu said from the cabinet he had been rummaging through.

"I'd love to go home." Luka groaned, pushing himself up. "But my friend, Marinette. I don't know where she's at."

"Trust me, she's fine. I'm sure she's at your place, waiting for you. Do you need one of us to help you back to your jeep?" The blonde asked, steading the guitarist on his feet.

"Maybe," Luka grunted, swaying a bit.

Adrien clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he guided Luka to the door.

"Master Fu?" Adrien narrowed his eyes as he looked over his shoulder. "Could you assist Luka to his vehicle. I have important business I need to attend to, and I can't be late again."

"Of course."

Luka should have been happy he wouldn't have to carry an awkward conversation with Adrien, especially with pressing matters like their identities and such. But he would have taken that any day over the one-sided conversation Master Fu was having with him. It would have been fine had Master Fu not expected a response, but he did. And he wanted a well thought out response too.

The ride home was short. And climbing up the stairs wasn't so bad considering he lacked energy. He twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open. He tossed his keys onto the kitchen table and began to unbutton his shirt.

In his room, he found Marinette all wrapped up in his blankets. He put his button up on the rocking chair and tugged on the closest t-shirt.

"Mari." He whispered, crawling onto the bed. "Marinette."

The bluenette responded by rolling over with a grunt. Her eyes fluttered open for a second, but she closed them almost immediately. She lifted her arm and patted her chest. He rested his ear against her chest and wrapped an arm around her waist.

Marinette's hand tangled in his hair, and she wiggled closer to him. Her heartbeat against his ear, soothing him into a peaceful slumber.
