Chapter Six
Luka's eyebrows shot up in surprise. He slowly took the box from the gloved hand and pinched the lid between his fingers.
Green lit up the room, momentarily blinding the two boys. When the light was gone, both green and blue eyes watched the green floating kwami.
"My name is Sass" The snake kwami drawled out the "s" as he stretched his back. "I must say, it does feel good to be out. It's been eons."
Chat rose an eyebrow. Whether or not that statement was true, he had no idea. It could of easily literally been eons and he wouldn't know.
The blonde shook his head. He had to focus. This situation was not one he could take lightly.
"Sass, I believe you know why you're out?" Chat Noir asked, diverting the snake to talk much more about the other kwami's.
Sass cleared his throat and turned to face Luka.
"Chat Noir has chosen you. Meaning you are worthy to possess the snake miraculous. To transform, you have to say "Sass, scales form." Sass nodded to himself, like a guarantee that was correct.
Luka looked at it hesitantly. Chat Noir knew precious time was slipping through his fingers. His miraculous beeped and he groaned.
"Look, Luka, do you have any cheese?" Chat Noir asked as he maneuvered his way to the kitchen.
"Yeah, bottom drawer." The raven head stated, watching as Sass lowered himself into his hand.
The blonde squeezed his eyes closed. His stress levels were quickly spiking up. He didn't even know if Luka actually wanted to be a hero like he was. Of course, the guitarist was one in his own way, but would he even want to transform? Did he make a mistake?
"I need to detransform. I'll lock the bathroom door. While you wait, you can make up your mind. If you don't feel up to transforming, it's fine and you let me know."
"Okay" Luka responded
"I don't know why you chose him," Plagg said in his scruffy voice after Chat Noir got himself situated. "I mean he is stealing your girl"
"Plagg now is not the time. I'm asking him to help the very girl. I don't care if he's trying to take Ladybug from me. So long as she's safe" Adrien growled, scowling at the window.
While doing so, he saw his movement in the mirror from the corner of his eye. He looked a wreck. His hair was a mess, not Chat Noir crazy, just knots. His eyes were dull and it seemed that scowl would never leave his lips.
The blonde squeezed his eyes closed and thought back. As long as Marinette was safe. She needed to be. She couldn't be anything else. They've been through worse, the bluenette would be fine.
The black kwami burped, pulling Adrien out of his thoughts.
"Are you ready?" The model asked sarcastically.
"No" Plagg yawned.
"Claws out!"
"Maaaaaan!" Plagg complained, being pulled toward the ring.
Unlocking the door, Chat Noir expected Luka to be where he left him. But the raven head was nowhere in sight.
"Luka?"
Chat Noir checked every room, the bedroom being the last. Luka was technically there, but at the same time, it was no longer him. The new hero stood in front of a body length mirror, poking at his suit.
"What should I call you?" Chat asked, his eyes checking out the room.
The cat eyes didn't miss the red coat or pink suitcase on the rocking chair. Suspicion rose in him, but he tucked it away for later.
"Askook," The raven head said without the slightest hesitation.
"Alright then. Askook, let's go. We have an akuma to defeat" Chat Noir waved for him to follow and hopped out the window.
Askook's "weapon" was a hand-sized harp. Not very handy in going from place to place, but he was sure it had potential. It was a little hard to catch on, but the guitarist was picking up on how to properly jump from roof to roof.
"Let me fill you in" Chat called out, pulling himself back a bit so he was foot in foot to Askook. "The akuma, her name is Craie. She's blind. But it will be a huge mistake if you think that makes her weak. She can hear everything. Her powers have to do with chalk." He counted off on his fingers.
"Did you do make more than one sound? Is that when Ladybug got caught?"
Chat Noir almost crashed into a chimney from surprise. Ladybug, caught? No, how could he assume that? Though it was cut kind of close this time.
"How'd you know?" Cat eyes narrowed at the snake.
The green hero shrugged, keeping his eyes forward.
"It's just a guess. I haven't seen her, and you two usually do things together. I guess it was rude to assume. Where is she then?" Askook asked.
Chat Noir opened his mouth for a minute. Where was she was indeed a good question. He knew the answer, but only so much could be told to the temporary hero.
"I...." The blonde shook his head as he dropped down to the ground. "It's not important. All that is important is that she's safe and hopefully will be back soon"
Askook didn't speak for a few minutes as they stalked as fast as they could to the akuma.
"You know" The raven head started. "You have the kind of love with Ladybug that everyone reads as little kids."
Chat Noir stopped, just before the corner that would lead them to Craie.
"How so?"
He wanted a response. If people could still think they were together, then maybe what was happening wasn't as bad as it seemed. Maybe they could get back together. Chat Noir shook his head. He needed to prioritize everything. Akuma first, everything else later.
"Oh, Kitty Noir" Craie purred. "I hear your voice"
Chat pulled himself out of the ally way and began to swing his baton.
"That's right, Craie. And I brought a friend. Askook, meet Craie and Hawkmoth"
The guitarist gripped his harp in his hand, so hard that his knuckles turned white. He had a plan. It wasn't the best formulated, but it could work. He whispered it in the black cat's ear and watched as it twitched with satisfaction.
"We've been fighting a lot you know, Craie" Chat pointed out, pressing his hand to his heart and taking a step towards her. "I think I would like to apologize by playing you some music"
Askook took his cue and began to lightly strum the strings on the harp. It was similar to playing on his guitar in some ways more than others. He used his chance to try out some lyrics he had been toying around with.
"If you only knew the trouble" His voice came out soft, and totally unexpected by both Craie and Chat.
"That you seem to put me through. And it's like every time you something my heart beats I love you"
The snake's body relaxed, he was doing what he was good at.
"If you only knew how much you amaze me. With every word that falls from your beautiful lips. You'll never know how truly wonderful you are" Yes, it was cheesy. But Askook was proud of it. He worked hard.
Craie's arm slowly rested by her side. She was completely enchanted by the song. It was beautiful.
Chat Noir stalked up on her, his eyes pinpointing where all the chalk was. Only nine pieces of chalk. He slipped it from the pouch it was kept in and quickly ducked down to dodge her attack.
"You stupid cat!" She cried out, attacking him more.
"You did this to yourself Craie. I have no other choice" The blonde threw the box on the ground and jumped on it.
He did that until all that was left was dust. A purple butterfly began to fly away.
"Askook! Quickly! Before it gets away!" Chat Noir exclaimed as the butterfly got further.
In a flash of red, it was caught in a yo-yo and pulled to the owner of it.
"Bye-bye little butterfly" The bluenette smiled as she watched it flutter away.
Ladybug walked beside the two boys, watching Craie grit her teeth. The blunette coughed, bringing a fist to her chest. The two beside her both put a hand on her shoulder in concern.
"Ladybug, are you alright?" The raven head questioned her.
Ladybug's head snapped to him, questions swirling in her bluebell eyes.
"Askook. My name is Askook"
Ladybug got caught in his eyes. They looked familiar, they had the same depth as her friend's. She turned to look at Chat Noir. He nodded his head, answering her silent question.
Ladybug shook her head and smiled as she looked up. The red and black polka-dotted bird was lowering its self into her hand.
"Thank you for your service, Mr. Pigeon." It cooed in response.
"Miraculous Ladybug!"
Ladybugs swept through the town, fixing the damage. The bluenette scowled when they didn't touch her, and Chat did the same. Was the damage to internal to fix? Or was it so simple it wasn't worth fixing?
"Thank you Ladybug and Chat Noir. You too, Askook"
All three heroes looked to the voice to find a red-headed girl with freckles. Her eyes were pale blue and she stared at nothing.
"Let me take you home," The blonde told the girl, gently wrapping his hand around her arm.
"That'd be great"
Chat Noir got her on his back for a piggyback ride. He turned to Ladybug with the girl on his back. Their eyes met, sadness swirled in both. Chat sighed as he stepped towards her.
"Good job today, M'lady" He gave a small smile and raised his fist between them.
She blinked up at him through her eyes lashes, searching his face.
"Pound it," They both said quietly.
"Come on, Askook" Ladybug demanded, walking the opposite of Chat Noir. "I'll show you home before I take your miraculous back"
"So everyone knows where I live?" Askook joked, switching the harp between hands.
The bluenette opened her mouth to respond but never got the chance to say anything. A cough ripped through her throat, causing her to hunch over.
"Lady...... bug?" The raven head asked, rushing over to her and patting her lower back.
"I'm fine" She managed, running her fingers over her throat.
Askook pulled his eyebrows together, the familiarity tugging at him. His miraculous beeped, and Ladybug stood straight.
"You're running out of time. Let's hurry." She threw her yo-yo to wrap around a chimney.
The bluenett held her arm out and curled her fingers. Despite her head being turned away from him, Luka could see the blush that dusted her cheeks.
The hero compelled, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. She tugged the yo-yo and began to make their way to his apartment.
He looked up at her face, a small smile tugging its way onto her lips. He could almost swear he knew her. The hair, the eyes, the concentrated look on her face.
"Just in time" She sighed after both of them going through the window.
Green lit up the room and Luka tilted his head at Ladybug.
"Do all of the miraculous go to the same place?" He asked as Sass spun down his arm.
Ladybug sighed, looking at the snake kwami.
"I hope you understand that the information is on the need to know basis"
"I don't need to know?"
"Exactly" She gave him finger guns in which he only laughed.
"I enjoyed working with you today Ladybug. Feel free to ask me for help any time" Luka smiled as he began to venture into the back of his house.
"I'll keep it in mind" Ladybug opened the window and hit the ground.
She ducked into an ally and detransformed. Marinette coughed again, if not as bad as last time, worse.
"Marinette," Tikki said, concern leaking into her words. "I don't think you're okay"
The blunette wiped her mouth and pressed her head against the wall. Tikki was right, she wasn't okay. But there wasn't much she could do about it but treat it like a cold.
"Let's just go back" Marinette groaned, already feeling a headache coming on.
"Marinette." Luka attacked her in a hug, burying his face into her neck. "I'm so glad you're okay" He whispered.
The fashion designer's eye were wide for a moment, still shocked. She relaxed into the hug, wrapping her arms around him.
"Me too" She laughed softly.
