Chapter Five

"The only answer is to use my lucky charm," Ladybug said aloud as they ran from the akuma. "But I never use it this early. I don't know if it will work"

Having no other choice, Ladybug reached for her waist. When her fingers didn't feel anything, she groaned. The akuma had her yo-yo. She groaned and dug the heel of her palm into her forehead.

"Now what?" Chat asked, crouching with his elbows resting on his knees.

Ladybug squeezed her eyes closed as a faint memory tugged at the back of her head. It flooded back with a rush of color.

"Marinette. There's something important that you should know" Tikki admitted floating over the fashion designers shoulder.

"What is it Tik?" Marinette asked, pausing slightly to look at her friend.

"If you ever lose your yo-yo in battle, there is something you can do for a lucky charm" The red kwami stated, sitting on the desk in front of her holder.

Marinette tilted her head to the side and rested her pencil on the desk.

"Really? How?"

Tikki hesitated for a moment before sighing.

"It's complicated and you should only use it as a last resort. It's even more draining to me than the normal way to use it" Tikki squinted her eyes for a moment.

"Okay, Marinette. I can only say it once, I'm hardly allowed to tell you in the first place"

"What are you doing?" Chat questioned when Ladybug turned to him, stomping her feet so they were shoulder length apart.

"Just come here" The bluenette rolled her eyes.

Chat Noir pressed his lips together. He wasn't sure how much he wanted to, arguing or not, he did trust her. He jumped down from his spot and mimicked her actions.

Their hands were clasped together between them as they stared each other in the eyes.

"We have to do this in sync" Ladybug told him, bringing her right foot forward and he did the same.

"Miraculous Ladybug!" They lifted there combined hands into the air and a swirl of ladybugs flew above them.

They disappeared and the object fell. The two heroes let go of each other and the object landed in her hand.

"It's a bird" Chat noted, pinching his nose.

"What gave it away? Was it the feet?" Ladybug replied sarcastically. She rolled her eyes as it sat down in her hand.

The bluenette tuned out Chat Noir's response as she lifted her blue eyes to scan the area around her. What could a bird possibly do to help them?

Her eyes landed on the chalk than a nearby garbage can. An idea sprung into her head and she turned looked down at the bird.

"Hello, Mr. Pigeon" she cooed, using two fingers to stroke its head. "I need you to get something, okay?"

"What do you think it's going to do? Talkback?" The black cat grunted after he sneezed.

"I completely trust Tikki, Chat. I think you should too." Ladybug gave him a pointed glare in which he only returned.

Without warning, the red and black polka dotted bird flew up in the air.

"Quick!" Ladybug cried out, running over to the two metal garbage cans. "Make as much as noise as possible! She can't hear everything at once!"

The young heroine began to bang the metal lids together. Chat's cat eyes looked around him. He couldn't find anything useful so he used his last resort.

"Let it goooo! Let it goooo! Can't hold it back anymooorrree!" Chat Noir began to sing on the top of his lungs.

His baton whipped through the air, creating a whistle like sound. "Sing with me, Bugaboo!"

Ladybug was tempted to call him stupid and continue to ignore him. But she was better than that.

"Ladybug knows best, listen to your partner, it's a scary world out there." She smirked and he scrunched his nose up while he mocked her.

"A whole new world! A dazzling place I never knew!" Chat screeched. His referring to their relationship being over only caused her to scowl.

"You're unsuited for the rage of war. So pack up, go home, you're through" Still banging the lids together she raised her nose and closed her eyes.

"I believe what you were trying to say was thank you"

"Poor unfortunate soul. So sad, so dull."

Chat pressed a hand to his chest as Craie's blind, unseeing eyes darted between them. Craie cried out in anger, trying to focus on one sound. But it only continued to aggravate her more.

"I can take a hint, gotta face the facts. You're my only friend Craie!" When Chat finished the verse, both of the heroes turned their heads toward the Akuma.

"No!" Craie cried out as the pigeon took the chalk from her.

It landed in the palm of her hand and she curled her fingers around it. It crumbled easily in her hand. Green cat eyes met blue when no purple butterfly came from it.

Craie gave an evil chuckle she pulled another piece of chalk.

"Did you really think that it would be that simple?" Craie purred, a smirk curled its way onto her lips.

Ladybug's eyes widened in realization, but it was too late for that. She was caught in an invisible wall. She looked at her feet, cursing herself for letting the chalk hit the ground.

The two heroes weren't really concerned about it until a powdery smoke began to rise. Ladybug began to cough as it filled up her bubble. She banged her fists on the wall, but nothing worked. The heroine noted that her miraculous beeped, only giving her ten minutes.

"Ladybug!" Chat shouted, running to her. His knees hit the ground as he pressed his gloved hand where hers was.

The black cat watched as she blinked slowly then her head rested against the invisible field. Her poster was completely slumped, meaning one of two things. She was slowly dying or knocked out.

"Ladybug" He whispered. "You can't hear me, but I love you and I swear on my mothers grave I will save you" He pressed his forehead against the wall before standing up and turning to face Craie.

"You know cats don't like their things being taken from them" Chat Noir growled as he popped his fingers.

"Is that so?" Craie questioned, waving her chalk in the air.

Chat ran to attack her. They dodged each other for a little while, only getting a few good hits in each. Chat Noir could feel her tire before he snatched the chalk from her. Nothing.

He prayed that she only had a twelve pack of chalk and not a sixty-eight. Knowing that fact, he turned his attention elsewhere. She still had Ladybug's yo-yo. Out cold or not, the akuma couldn't be stopped without it.

The attacks continued, but there didn't seem to be an end to them. Chat was getting tired quickly. He had an answer that could possibly work, but he didn't want to leave Ladybug here alone. It wasn't like he had an option.

Chat Noir bit his lower lip as he backed up. Craie would be able to follow him if just ran away. His eyes landed on the road.

"Cataclysm!" The blonde yelled, waving his arms through the air.

The black substance was summoned to his hand and radiated power. Chat Noir took a quick look at Ladybug. He realized that if he used it on the street, then Ladybug wouldn't be safe.

Chat Noir dashed over to her, narrowly dodging Craig's attack. He pressed his hand against the invisible wall. His sensitive ears could hear it crumble.

The blonde scooped up Ladybug's limp body and began to run. He weaved his way through the town, which was fairly simple when all of the people were indoors.

When he reached the door, he awkwardly managed to turn the knob. He kicked the door open.

"Master Fu!" Chat cried out, working his way to the back of the place.

The black cat looked down at the girl in his arms as her miraculous beeped one more time. Red filled his vision as her mask disappeared from her face.

"That? Oh uh, that was my uh..... Nephew! He brought me.... Something.... I'll be right back!" Master Fu's voice was heard from the other side of the door.

He opened and pressed his back into it with a sigh. The old man scowled at Chat Noir before his eyes landed on who was now Marinette.

Master Fu waved for the hero to follow to his room. The one he kept empty when akumas were around. Chat Noir rested the bluenette on the mat and waited for Master Fou to speak.

"You need another miraculous" The old man stated, putting his password in the old music player.

"Yes sir" The blonde responded, brushing his hair back from his eyes.

"Then I suppose you need Wayzz? Or Trixx?" Master Fu asked after opening all of the compartments so the blonde could see all the miraculouses.

"Believe me, I'd love to. But Nino and Alya are out of town" Chat Noir shook his head as he studied the different items.

"Then the bee? Someone willing to lead?"

Chat Noir once again shook his head. Chloe was visiting her mom in New York. So what choices did he have? His cat-like eyes landed on a bracelet in particular. A silver snake's body curled to fit the holder.

"How about that one? The one with the snake?" The black cat asked, pointing at it.

Master Fu looked at it before nodding his head in approval.

"Peculiar but good choice"

After putting the miraculous in a black box, the old man turned to Chat Noir. He looked into Chat's eyes to let him know this was serious.

"Choose someone wisely. Not everyone is worthy enough to hold a miraculous" Master Fu warned.

The blonde nodded his head before rushing out, leaving Marinette in Fu's capable hands.

As he jumped from roof to roof, Chat realized he needed someone. But who? Kim? No, the snake didn't really fit him. Rose or Juleka? No. It couldn't be just anybody.

A thought hit the cat. It wasn't the most pleasant, but it could work. He landed on a window seal and knocked on the window. Not moments later a raven-haired boy rushed to open it.

"Chat Noir" Luka stated, stepping back to let the hero. "My friend Marinette, she left a while back to get some medicine, and she hasn't returned. The news says there's another akuma, is she alright?"

The visible stress Luka showed for the girl caused Chat Noir to feel a pang of jealousy. But right now he couldn't be balancing between Adrien's emotions and Chat Noir's duties.

"She's alright. I saw to it myself that she was" The blonde assured, raising himself from his feet.

Luka's blue eyes examined the hero for a moment.

"But that's not why you're here"

The blonde was slightly surprised, to say the least. Most people would be so excited to be in the same room as him. They were to distracted over him being a hero to listen to his words. Luka was anything but that.

"You're correct. I'm here for something else" Chat Noir pulled a black box from his pocket and held it out in his hand.

"Luka Couffaine. I need you to be the snake miraculous holder"
