Meeting Mike's Mom

The rest of the week flies by and before either one knows it, it is Saturday night. Hannah and Mike drop Moishe off with Andrea, Bill and Tracey.

They decide to sleep at Mike's apartment because it is closer to the freeway. They have to leave early for the forty-five minute drive. Mike told his mom they would be there at nine thirty, meaning they have to leave at seven-thirty am to get there on time incase of traffic.

They really only sleep at her condo, so Hannah doesn't have a key to the apartment. Not because Mike is hiding something from her, quite the opposite actually. They just do not use the apartment often. They do however, typically, one or two nights separate from each other.

"I haven't seen the ring on you yet," Mike states as he watched Hannah take the ring off her chain and slides it on her finger, when they get back in the car after dropping Moishe off.

"I haven't either," Hannah puts her hand out to admire the ring, "I love this ring, hun."

"I'm glad, darling," He gently takes her hand and observes it. "It looks perfect."

Hannah smiles, "Yes, it does."

After they are both done observing the ring, Mike pulls out onto the street. He drives back to his apartment. He takes her hand in the hand that he wasn't using to drive, and brings it to his lips and presses a kiss to it. He holds her hand for the rest of the ten minute drive.

"Darling, I am so excited to introduce you to my mom. She already loves you."

"I cannot believe that I haven't met your parents before."

"There are somethings I need to tell you when we get to the apartment about my family," He kisses her hand again.

"Ok, hun," Hannah pulls both hands to her lips and kisses his hand. The rest of the ride is spent in a comfortable silence.

Soon, they pull into the parking lot of his apartment complex. They both get out and meet around the back of the Hummer. She takes his hand and he leads her up to his apartment. She has only ever been here once and seeing that they spend most of their time at her condo, she doesn't have a key.

"You want some coffee, darling?" Mike asks. Hannah knows that he doesn't know how to make anything other than instant coffee.

"Sure," Hannah sits on the bar stool at the island. She watches as Mike fills two mugs up with water and microwaves them for thirty seconds. Once the microwave beeps signaling the water is done, he pulls them out and grabs the canister of instant coffee mix. He uses the little measuring spoon and measures out a teaspoon. He puts one teaspoon of the powder into each mug and stirs both. He passes her mug to her and sits across from her. Hannah thanks him and takes a sip. "What did you want to tell me about your family, hon?"

"Do you want to know why you haven't met my parents yet?" Mike asks. Hannah reaches her hand across the table and rubs gentle circles into his.

"If you want to tell me."

"My parents separated, they had been in the process of divorce for the past few years. I haven't even seen wither of them the whole time I have known you," Mike explains.

"I'm sorry, Mike." She continues gently rubs small circles into her fiancee's hand.

"Tomorrow we are just going to see my mom. I was thinking that maybe next week or the week after we would go see my dad depending on what you have planned." he informs, putting his other hand over hers, rubbing his thumb up and down the sides of her hands.

"I don't have anything planned for next week if you want to do that."

"I will call him on Monday morning and run it by him," he puts his mug down and puts his hand over hers.

"Alright," she uses her free hand to sip on her coffee.

"Hey, for the wedding, there is a spot in the rural part of Minneapolis that I think you would like. Maybe we can take a drive over there tomorrow."

"Ok, I was also thinking of a spot. In the town center by the gazebo."

"If you don't like the spot in Minneapolis then we can do there," Mike compromises.

"Ok. You know the tradition of the groom is not to see the bride before the wedding?"

"Yes. Something about bad luck, isn't it?"

"Yes. I was thinking that if you and I can survive how many murders, Norman, Mother and everything else, then we really don't need to worry about it."

"Your mother is a traditionalist, darling, she will make us spend the night apart."

"She just wants me married. Andrea and Bill got married straight out of high school and Michelle is her baby, meanwhile I spent two years dating both you and Norman. She had been pressuring me to make a decision from day one."

"If your mother doesn't make Michelle stay at the condo the night before, we will both sleep there," Mike says.

"Good, I really don't think she will make Michelle sleep there. Honestly, she is embarrassed by me not being married so she doesn't care how it happens."

"Why is she embarrassed by you?"

"Because I didn't marry straight out of high school, nor did I date in high school. Meanwhile, Michelle was a party animal and she had all the guys she wanted so Mother was satisfied. During high school I was taking care of Michelle and and Andrea while Mother was dating." Hannah explains. Mike looks at her with sympathy.

"How about we worry about this closer to the day?" He wants to get off this topic as soon as possible so his wife-to-be will stop upsetting herself. He has always hated when she was upset.

"That works."

"You know, darling, we have almost less than two months until the wedding," Mike grins at her.

"I know, I am so excited," Hannah smiles back. Mike mentally congratulates himself because his subject change worked.

"Do you want to start talking about who is going to bake the cake and cater?"

"Maybe Sally could cater and bake the cake. On Monday, I am going to call a family dinner at the condo and I am going to tell them, I want to tell them so I can talk to Sally about catering." She is determined.

"Who do you want for your bridesmaids?" He asks, trying to keep her mind off the night before the wedding, but instead on the actual planning.

"Andrea, Michelle and Lisa. Who do you want for your groomsmen?"

"Bill, Lonnie and Herb."

"That works perfectly. We can have Bill walk Andrea down the isle, Lonnie Michelle and Lisa and Herb. I was also thinking Tracey could be our flower girl," She uses her free hand tp rummage in her purse for the mini notebook she has in there, "I need to switch hands so I can write all this down." They pull their hands apart. Hannah writes down the plans they have so far.

"She would have a lot of fun being flower girl," He agrees.

"She would be an adorable one too. Do you want a small wedding or large?"

"Lets wait and see which venue we decide on. If we go with the spot in Minneapolis then we can have a large one, if we choose the town square, then we wouldn't have enough room to have a large one. But no matter which place we want, I want you to make all the decisions like that. I just want to have my parents here, I don't really have any other family, so all of the guests would be for both of us anyway."

"Tomorrow, we will be able to put that one down. What colors do you want for the wedding colors?"

"Whatever colors you want, darling."

"I want you to feel like you have a say in our wedding," She protests.

"Right now, its just minor decisions, right?"

"Yes."

"So how about this, you take care of the rest of the decisions and I take care of the honeymoon?"

"Ok. Hey, how would you feel about deep blue and mahogany?"

Mike smirks, knowing why she chose those colors, "Darling, its your choice. Just let me know when I need to make an appointment to try on tuxes."

"Alright. I think that no matter what whichever venue we choose, we should have a simple wedding, nothing too extravagant."

"Whatever you want, darling." Mike smiles as he watches his fiancee furiously write down wedding ideas, "are you done with your coffee?" In response, he gets a nod. So he takes the empty mug and puts it into the sink.

Eventually, Hannah stops writing. She looks up and sees her fiancee watching her with a smile. She smiles and asks, "What?"

"Nothing, darling, nothing."

"Alright then. I am going to go change, pee and brush my teeth." Hannah gets up and heads for his room.

"If you're going to take a tee shirt, the comfortable ones are on the left side of the closet in the second drawer." Mike informs as he rinses the mugs and puts them into the dishwasher.

"Do you mind what one I wear?"

"Nope, just pick whatever one you want."

Hannah picks his mahogany station shirt. She takes that into the bathroom and changes. She uses the tooth brush she has there to brush her teeth and uses the toilet while she is in there. When she comes out, she sees Mike in a solid grey tee. Before he goes into the bathroom, he steals a kiss. She lies down on the bed and grabs the remote. She turns the tv on and flips through the channels, looking for a movie.

"What are you looking for?" Mike questions, getting into bed.

"A movie. Maybe a comedy," She replies.

"Go to the guide and find the higher stations. A lot of the comedies are up there." He wraps an arm around her and pulls her to his chest. She leans in and gently rests her head on his chest.

Hannah listens to his advice and does what she's told. Soon, she finds one of their favorite date night movies.

"I know its not date night, but I found this movie," She tells him as she selects the channel.

Instead of responding, Mike settles in and pulls her closer to him. He wraps his arms around her, as she does the same to him. Hannah leans up and kisses him. Mike happily accepts the kiss and smiles into it. Gently kissing back, he runs his fingers through the ends of her hair.

Hannah pulls away when the need for air becomes great. She smiles and leans back into his chest. Mike continues to play with her hair and she settles in and wraps her arms around him.

Soon, Hannah falls asleep.

~~~~~~~
"Tracey, come here, your Aunt Hannah and I have someone we want you to meet," Mike tells her, gently lifting her when she is close enough to him.
"Hi, Aunt Hannah," Tracey whispers, careful to be quiet for the baby in Hannah's arms.
"Hi, honey, this is your cousin, Kate." She tells the six year old. Tracey leans over her uncle's arms and places a gentle kiss on her baby cousin's forehead. The adults in the room, Andrea, Bill, Delores, Doc, and of course Mike and Hannah, awe.
"Can I hold her?" Tracey asks.
Mike shares a look with his wife, "If you want to sit either with Aunt Hannah or with your parents, you can."
Tracey takes a moment to think over her options, "I wanna sit with Aunt Hannah," she decisivly tells her aunt and uncle.
"Ok, I will sit you in the bed with your aunt." Mike gently places her next to Hannah in the bed. When his niece is out of his arms, he gently takes the baby from his wife to allow her to settle herself to help her niece.
"Do you see how Uncle Mike is holding her?"
"Yes."
"Put your arms like that. Remember, you are going to support her head," Hannah explains, carefully helping the young girl position herself. "I think we're ready, hon." Mike gently lies the sleeping baby in her cousin's arms.
Hannah helps Tracey support the baby's head. She watches as Tracey gives the baby another kiss, extremely careful not to hurt the baby.
"When you and Kate are a little older, we might have you babysit for us every once in a while, Trace," Hannah tells her, observing the little girl with her baby cousin.
"Really?" Tracey quietly exclaims.
"Of course, Tracey." Mike smiles.
"So, Hannah, how do you like having a baby?" Andrea asks.
"I love her. She is just as adorable as she was on the ultrasounds."
"Mike, how do you feel?" Bill asks his best friend.
"She is a quiet baby," Mike answers.
"She will be quite the heartbreaker when she gets older." Doc pipes up.
"She is only two hours old. I don't want to think of that." Mike tells his step-father in law. Hannah smiles, knowing her husband is going to be very protective of their daughter. Going off the way he is protective of her, then he will be ten times more protective of their baby girl.
"Tracey, I think it is time for us to let Aunt Hannah and Uncle Mike have some time alone," Andrea tells her daughter. Tracey sighs and looks at her aunt, waiting for the baby to be moved.
"Andrea, could you take Kate and, hon, could you get Tracey off the bed?" Hannah asks, ensuring neither of the girls get injured. Her sister and husband do what is asked of them.
When Mike lifts Tracey off the bed, Andrea gently gives the baby back to Hannah. She smiles and gladly takes the sleeping baby.
"I am going to go with them, Hannah, I will be back tomorrow." Delores says with no real interest.
"Bye, everyone." Hannah says as everyone walks out the room.
"I will let you three have some time alone, I will check on you later," Doc kisses her head and walks out.
"Hon, will you sit on the bed?" Hannah asks.
"Sure, darling."
Mike sits on the bed-
~~~~

Hannah's dream ends when she is awoken by the alarm Mike had set the night before. She is shocked by the reality of the dream. She sits up and stretches. She sees Mike getting dressed.

"Hon, I had an amazing dream," Hannah tells him as she gets up.

"What was it about?" Mike is intrigued. Hannah has only told him about her dream once before. That dream was about their wedding.

"I had just had a baby girl and she was so adorable, hon. Tracey wanted to hold her so you lifted her and sat her on the bed next to me and we let her hold her, with my help. She was amazing with her. We told her that when she and the baby were older, we would let her babysit sometimes. She was so careful not to hurt the baby. After they all left, you were going to sit with me and help me admire our baby girl but the alarm went off," She smiles as she recounts the dream.

He smiles, "What was her name?"

"Kate."

"I can just imagine her. She would have your hair and eyes and my nose and lips," Mike says as he imagines the baby. He is slightly jealous of her because she got to have that dream and see their future baby girl.

"I hope she has my hair color but not the curls. It is a nightmare to take care of and I don't want to subject her to it and I do not want to straighten her hair from a young age, if when she is a little older, she decides she wants to try straightening her hair then we will let her, but not before she turns thirteen."

Mike loves that she is thinking about having his children and that she is already thinking of nonexistent children's safety and well-being. He decides to voice these thoughts, "I love that you are already thinking of having children. How many do you want?"

"I think one, maybe two biologically ours then maybe adopt one or two older kids later on. I want to be able to give a couple older kids who need a home, one full of love. I also think that we should see what our financial situation is before we adopt or have kids. I want to be able to give them the best life possible. I also think we should buy an actual house first."

"I think that is a good idea. The condo is perfect for the two of us and Moishe," he voices his agreement. "I think that one biologically ours and two older kids would be perfect."

"I do too," By that point, Hannah is up and dressed.

"I don't care what age as long as it is an older kid, I just want to be able to be a positive influence on them. I think when we decide, during the adoption process we should try to visit them as much as possible, that way it is an easier transition for him or her."

"I love that we are planning out our future and we aren't even married yet."

"I do too, darling," Mike smiles at her and pulls her into a hug, "Thank you for telling me your dream."

"I love you, hon."

"I love you too, darling."

At that point, both are ready to leave so they walk out of the bedroom and to the door. When they leave his apartment, he wraps an arm around her as they walk down the stairs.

"I cannot wait to marry you, darling." Mike whispers in her ear. Hannah smiles.

"I can't either," She replies.

"Less than two more months."

"All we have to do is figure out which venue and where the recption will be. Then we have to go about getting everything," Hannah leans into his side, "Later, do you want me to show you what I decided on?"

"Could I have the list so I can take care of getting everything?"

"Hon, you are already taking care of the honeymoon, you don't need to do that too."

"Darling, I work less than you do. You own the Cookie Jar so you have to put more hours in than I do. It makes more sense for me to get everything."

"But, I don't want you thinking you're doing everything." Hannah protests.

"I promise you, darling, I am fine getting everything ready. I want to do all this for you. You deserve it."

"I can manage it, Mike."

"I don't want you to stress yourself out."

This is the one bad thing about their relationship, they are both very stubborn people. They don't like giving into other's ways.

"But, hon, you are already planning the honeymoon, I don't want you to have to plan this wedding too," Hannah tries to convince her fiancee that she can handle everything.

"Darling, I know you can handle this, but I want to do this for you. Please let me. I want to plan this wedding," Mike opens the building door for her.

"I love you, Mike. I don't want you to think I am being lazy while you are working hard to plan the honeymoon and get everything ready for the wedding."

"I know you aren't lazy, darling. It just makes so much more sense to have me do it. I don't have to work as much as you do."

"You really want to do this?"

"Yes, I really do," Mike opens the car door for her. When she is in, he closes it and walks over to the other side. He opens the driver door of his Hummer and gets in.

"If you want to, I guess you can," Hannah relents.

"Thank you, darling." Mike pulls out of his spot  and drives through the parking lot to the road. Once on the road, he grabs Hannah's hand.

For a good while the ride is comfortably silent. Both are thinking about their wedding. Hannah spends most of the trip up to that point leaned against the window.

"Darling, do you want to go to the spot later or before we go to my mom's?" Mike asks.

"I think before we go see your mom," Hannah responds, sitting up.

"Ok. We're almost there. Tonight, on our way home, we can stop again. I want you to see it at sunset."

"Sounds good," she looks at her fiancee with a smile.

"Are we picking Moishe up tonight or are you going to do it tomorrow night?"

"I was planning on letting him stay with Andrea because Tracey doesn't have school tomorrow. Moishe would be home alone otherwise."

"That makes sense." Mike takes the exit and drives for a few feet before taking a turn onto the dirt road. Hannah watches her surroundings.

Soon, Hannah can see the gazebo he was telling her about. She gasps and lets out a breathy, "Wow. This place is gorgeous."

"I know. They used have weddings here all the time," Mike unlocks the doors and both get out, they walk around and meet at the front of the Hummer.

"Really? I think this is it," They share a smile and Mike wraps an arm around her shoulders. Hannah leans into his side and wraps an arm around his middle.

"I do too, darling."

"Don't we have to get to your mom's soon?" She asks, looking at her watch.

"Yeah, we do," Mike sighs and pulls away from her. They walk around to their doors of the Hummer and get in.

"Should I be nervous to meet her?"

"Of course not, she loves you already," He gently takes her hand and kisses it then starts to run little, gentle circles over the back.

"Okay. I just want her to not hate me," She squeezes his hand for support.

"She won't, darling." he assures, starting the car. He pulls up and turns around. He pulls out onto the road and drives.

"How far away from your mom's are we?"

"Not that long, ten minutes or so."

"We're about a half hour from Lake Eden aren't we?"

"Yes."

"It really is the perfect venue. Do you know any reception halls that you aren't telling me about?"

"Nope. I was thinking that if we picked this spot, we could rent out a huge tent and have the reception here as well."

"That is an idea. I like that. I think we should do that," Hannah smiles, glad everything is coming together.

Soon, Hannah sees a beautiful house. It has a beautiful mahogony archway arching over the goergous african black wood door. the exteior of the house was painted a magificent teal color. Mike pulls into the driveway of the house.

"This is it, you ready?" Mike turns off the car and turns to Hannah.

"I think I am," Hannah unbuckles her seatbelt and gets out. Mike does the same. They meet around the front of the car.

"Lets go up to the door then," As they are walking up to the gorgeous house, Mike picks through his keyring to find the house's key.

"Your mom gave you house key?" Hannah was never given a key to any place her mother has lived in. Not even when she also lived at the house.

"Yeah, Delores didn't give you a key, did she?"

"Nope. Not even when I was living there."

"Ask Doc if he has a spare key. Unlike you, your mother and Doc lock their doors."

"I will." She didn't miss the last sentence he said, she will bring that up later. He puts the key into the lock and turns it.

"Hey, Mom. Hannah and I are here," Mike calls into the house, walking in with Hannah following him. Mike's mom, Darlene, comes out from the kitchen with flour all over her.

"Hello, Michael. I missed you!" The older women powerfully hugs him for a moment, then pulls back.

"I missed you too, Mom. This is Hannah. Hannah, this is my mom."

"Hello," Hannah says. Darlene pulls her into a tight hug without saying anything.

"Hello, dear."

"Your house is beautiful." Hannah tells the older woman when she finally pulls away.

"Thank you. Michael told me that you own your own bakery. I enjoy baking as well."

"I do own my own bakery. I call it the Cookie Jar."

"Would you like to see my kitchen?"

"Of course."

"Follow me," Darlene leads the couple into the kitchen.

"Oh my goodness, Darlene, I love this kitchen!" Hannah gasps.

"So do I, dear. Would you like to explore it a little bit?" Darlene offers to her soon-to-be-daughter-in-law.

"I would love that!"

"Go ahead."

Mike chuckles, "She will be here for hours, Mom."

"I know, dear. Do you want to sit at the dinning room table and catch up?"

"Sure," Mike nods and walks up to Hannah, "Darling, I am going to be in the dining room with my mom. Its the next room over."

"Go, I will be fine in here. By the way, I love this kitchen."

"I know you do, darling."

"Don't tell her without me," Hannah warns, turning to face him with narrowed eyes that Mike finds hilarious.

"I won't, just come in the dining room whenever you are done in here." He laughs.

"I will. When we move into whatever house, I want a stove like this. I love it."

"I will make sure you will get a stove like that," Mike leans forward and kisses her. he pulls away and takes the same steps as his mother did a minute earlier.

"Mom, what's up?" Mike asks as he sits at the table.

"I am getting married." Darlene drops the bombshell.

"Darling,  can you come here?" He calls into the other room from his seat. Hannah walks in and sits next to Mike.

"What's wrong?" Hannah asks.

"I told him I am getting married." Darlene says, not quite sure what is wrong with her son. She watches as Mike takes his girlfriend's hand. She sees what looks to be an engagement ring on her finger. "Do either of you want to tell me why there is a ring on her finger, Michael?"

"That is what we came out here to tell you, we are engaged." Mike tells his mother. His mother gasps.

"Michael, we get to be engaged at the same time!" His mother jumps up and starts jumping around the room.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Mike is shocked. His mother has never acted like this.

The door opens and some man walks into the dining room.

"Honey, what are you doing?" The man asks.

"Charlie, this is my son, Michael and his fiancee, Hannah. Hannah, Mike, this is Charlie, my fiancee." Darlene introduces.

"Hello," Charlie greets, wrapping an arm around Darlene.

"Hi," Mike awkwardly greets.

"Hello," Hannah greets.

"Hannah, can I talk to you in the living room?" Mike asks. She nods and stands. She follows Mike into the living room.

"I don't know how comfortable I am with her remarrying right after the divorce," he tells her before taking her in his arms and placing his head on her shoulder.

"I know you aren't. Mother started dating two weeks after Dad died. It made me uncomfortable too," Hannah sympathises.

"I think we should get out of here, maybe spend the day around the city."

"Do you want to?"

"I do, I want to take you to the jewelry store, they have a custom ring program, I was thinking we could design the rings."

"That could be fun. Lets go tell your mom we are leaving," Hannah holds him for a minute longer before letting go. Mike pulls away.

"So you want to go?"

"I don't want you uncomfortable, you would do the same thing for me, in fact you have before." Hannah tells him. She takes his hand and follows him back into the dining room.

"Mom, Hannah and I are leaving, I want to show her parts of the city." Mike informs his mother.

"Ok, dear, call me later," Darlene tells her son, distractedly. The couple turns and walks out of the house.

"Do you want to look at wedding dresses while we are out here?" Mike asks as he starts the Hummer.

"No, Claire would be very mad at me if I don't go to her for the dress before anybody else."

"So we are just looking at rings and possibly designing rings?" He pulls out of the driveway.

"Yes, but we can look at tuxes for you if you want." She smirks.

"I think we can wait on that one," He chuckles.

"If you are sure."

"I think I am." The couple shares a laugh. the rest of the ten minute drive to the mall is spent singing along, terribly off key, to the songs on the radio.

They have a great time together in the car. They laugh and sing all the way. Too soon for Hannah's taste, Mike pulls into a parking spot. As soon as the car is off, Hannah and Mike get out of their seats, and meet at the head of the car.

"Is there anything you want to get while we're here, besides the rings?" Mike asks, grabbing hold of her hand as they walk through the parking lot.

"I don't think so, how about you?"

"Nope. Lets just get in and get out, I know how much you hate the mall, darling." Hannah smiles, loving how well he knows her.

"Okay, where is the store?"

"Top floor. Right next to the elevator."

"Alright, lets go.

They walk in to the second floor, so they take the escalator to the third floor. When they get off at the third, they walk to the next escalator. Soon, they thankfully, for Hannah's sake, get off and to the jewelry shop.

"Hello there, how can I be of assistance today?" the lady behind the glass case asks.

"Hi, we want to do the design a ring program." Mike informs the lady.

"Oh, sure, follow me," The lady takes them to the back of the store. At the back there are these machines set up. "Each of you use one machine to design what I am assuming are going to be wedding rings," The lady instructs. Hannah goes to the machine on the right and Mike goes to the one on the right. "I will leave you two alone. Keep in mind, from the time you two order your rings, it should take about a couple weeks before they will arrive."

"As long as they arrive before Memorial Day weekend, it should be fine." Hannah says.

"It should arrive by then," The lady leaves them alone.

"I don't want you to see the one I design for you until it comes in," Mike tells her.

"If we are going to play that game, I don't want you to see what I design for you until it comes in," Hannah rebates.

"Ok," The couple spends the next twenty minutes designing the rings for the other.

"I'm done, how about you?" Hannah asks, twenty-five minutes later.

"I am almost done, I just want to make some final adjustments on your ring." Mike informs her.

"When you are done, I think I want to go get a bag of treats for Moishe, I want to try the diet food again."

"We can do that." Mike stands up straight after he finally finishes the ring.

"They are being shipped back here, right?"

"Yep, we will get calls when they are ready."

Hannah smiles at him as he grabs her hand. They thank the shop employee and leave. Out of the corner of her eye, Hannah sees her youngest sister, Michelle.

"Mike, duck into the next store. Michelle is over there and I am wearing the ring. I don't want her to see it and tell Mother or Andrea," She urges.

"Take the ring off, darling, and hand it to me." He calmly stops walking and waits for her to take the ring off. He watches as she takes the ring off and hands it to him. He quickly takes it and shoves it into his pants pocket. "Your sister is going to college out here isn't she?"

"Yes, she is. She is in her last year. Next year I think she is going to go to Grad school, but I am not one hundred percent sure."

"Hannah!" Michelle screams as she runs over. Mike lets go of Hannah's hand seconds before Michelle slams into her sister.

"Hi, Michelle, how are you?" The elder sister asks.

"I'm great! Why are you two here?" The younger questions.

"We were visiting Mike's mom today and we wanted to get something for Moishe here."

"Would you like me to come along?" Michelle offers. Hannah and Mike share a look over her head.

"Not today, honey, we wanted to do this and get home. We needed to work on something," Hannah gently explains to her sister.

"I thought you guys were visiting Mike's parents?" Michelle is confused.

Hannah sighs, "We already went to see her," She carefully explains, gripping her fiancee's hand tighter.

"Michelle!" Someone calls from behind the couple.

"I have to go, call me next time you are up here!" Michelle waves and walks away.

When her sister is out of out of earshot, Hannah turns and leans into Mike's comforting embrace. When she is in his arms, Mike wraps his arms around her body. He gently runs his hand over her back. "Are you ok, darling?" He whispers into her hair.

"I'm fine, hon. She just stresses me," Her voice is muffled by his chest.

They stand embraced in the middle of the mall for the next twenty minutes. When they pull away, they decide to just walk back to car and get Moishe's treats at a Walmart or something.

"Are you sure you are ok?" Mike asks when they get back into his Hummer.

"Mike, hon, I am sure I am fine. I love the concern you have for me, but I am fine."

"You just look upset, darling. I don't want you feeling negleted or like I don't care. I do care, I care so much," he reaches over the center console and gently pulls her into an embrace. Hannah feels small teardrops fall into her hair.

"Hey, what's wrong?" She wraps her arms around him and hugs him tightly.

"It's just been a long day and the thought if you feeling neglected or mistreated by me.. it-it breaks me," he stammers out.

"Shh, its ok. I feel more than loved and cared for, Mike."

"I just don't want that to change. And I know that if it does, you would just sit there and put a fake smile on and suffer in silence."

"Mike, it won't change, I promise, and the minute it does, I will let you know. How's that?" She gently runs her hands over his back in what she hopes is a soothing motion. "Do you want me to drive so you can rest and take a breather in the passenger seat?"

"Do-Do you want to drive?" He asks.

"Sure, hon." After a few more moments of Hannah holding Mike, they get out and switch seats. "Did you want to go back to your mom's or home?"

"Lets just go back to the condo," He grasps her hand and holds it tightly.

When they get back to the condo an hour later, Hannah opens the door for Mike. He walks in then she does. They both go sit on the couch. Gently, Mike leans into his fiancee's arms.

"You still aren't feeling that great, are you, hon?" she asks, wrapping her arms around him, pulling him closer to her. She knows the answer to her question.

"Not really."

"We're home now."

"I know," he leans up and kisses her cheek.

"I was the same way when Mother started dating." She gently runs her fingers through his  short hair. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"

"You have done it all, darling." The couple sits in a comfortable silence.

"Our bed may be more comfortable than the couch, hon." Hannah didn't realize she slipped up and called it thier bed.

"Okay," Mike gets up and waits for Hannah to get up. When she gets up, he grasps her hand. Hannah looks at him and smiles before gently squeezing his hand. They take the short walk through the hall to the bedroom.

When they walk in, they both toe their shoes off and crawl into bed. Mike rests his head on her stomach. She smiles and places both her hands on his head.

She loves playing with his hair. Because he is a cop, he keeps it short. Even so, it is long enough that she can run her fingers through it. Hannah playing with his hair always soothes Mike and she knows it.

"You called it our bed," Mike observes.

"I did?"

"Yeah, you did."

"I have been thinking it to be our bed for a while now, I just didn't realize I said it was ours," Hannah awkwardly explains.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"I didn't know that."

"I thought you did.." She trails off.

"Well then, I guess that you won't be mad at me if between us, I refer to the condo as ours." He picks his head up off her stomach and looks at her.

"Why would you think I would be mad?"

"I don't know..."

"I would never be mad about that. I think it'd be sweet."

Mike lies his head back down on her stomach. Hannah can tell that his mood is improving. it is not improving much but it is getting better. She won't complain though, baby steps are still movement, as the saying goes.

A little while later, the weight on Hannah's stomach became greater. She looks down at Mike and sees him peacefully sleeping. She decides to sleep as well, after all, they did have a big day.
