Hannah

My name is Hannah Swensen. I am a baker and own my own bakery, The Cookie Jar. My shop is in  Lake Eden, the town I currently live in and grew up in.

Mike Kingston is my boyfriend. He is a dectective with the Lake Eden Sheriff's station. He is orginally from Minneapolis, however, four years ago when I found my first murder victim, Bill Todd, my brother in law and county sheriff, brought him in becuase they did not have a lead detective.

For about two years, I was in an open relationship with him and Norman Rhodes. About a year ago, Norman and Mike both proposed to me. I just couldn't choose between them, so we all put the proposal on the back burner, so to speak.

As I hear a knock on the door, I am snapped out of my internal monologue.

Knowing his knock, I know the person on the other side of the door is Mike. I look out the peephole before opening the door because he will lecture me on looking out the peephole before answering the door.

"Good job, Hannah! You remembered to look through the peep hole." Mike says when he gets inside.

"That reminds me, I have something for you." I say, walking into the kitchen with Mike hot on my tail. I rummage around in one of the drawers and produce a key to my condo. "Here, Mike."

"This isn't to Moishe's food cabinet is it?" Mike jokes.

"Its to the condo, I figure you and I have been commited for a couple years now, you should have your own key."  I explain.

"Thanks, Hannah. Maybe now you will lock your door when you are home since I have a key."

"Yeah, right. By the way, is the proposal still on the table for me to say yes to?"

"Absolutely, does that mean what I think it means?"

"If you think that means I'm saying yes then your right!" I smile at him and hug him. Mike hugs back hard.

"I still have the ring in the Hummer, if you want me to go grab it." Mike offers.

"Get it later. I want to stay right here a little longer."

Soon, Moishe decides he has other plans for us as he starts mewling loudly. He's most likely hungry even though I fed him when I got home.

"Do you want to go sit on the couch and find something to watch on television while I feed and water Moishe?" I pull away, reluctantly.

"Sure." Mike turns and walks to the couch. He finds the remote and turns the television on.

I give Moishe a little more food and refil his water dish. I give him a pet on the head and stand back up.

Once I am satsified with everything in the kitchen, I turn and walk over to my fiancee. I sit next to him on my couch, kiss his cheek and look at what he decided on on TV.

To my surprise, he picked a horror film. Typically, niether of us enjoy horror. Our lives are basically horror films. Occasionally, however, he will put on a horror film so he gets an excuse to hold me while we are watching TV.

"Do you want the ring now?" Mike asks, not fed up or aggravated, just curious.

"When you come to The Cookie Jar, why don't you give it to me then? It's not because I am going to say no or anything, I just do not want you to leave."

"I know," Mike assures and hugs me closer. "When we get married, which place do we keep? Yours or mine?" Mike asks a while later.

"You rent yours, don't you?"

"Yes."

"I own this place, so I think the smart move is you move in here when we get married and we stay here and save up for a house or something a bit bigger." I give my opinion.

"I think that is a smart idea. Maybe we can plan our wedding to be soon after my lease ends so I don't have to fight the lease."

"Your lease is up right before Memorial day, right?"

"Yes." Mike smiles, "I am impressed, Hannah, you remember."

"Of course I do. I think a wedding Memorial day weekend shouldn't be too hot."

"When do you want to tell the family?"

"I think family dinner. I am going to be wearing that ring before then though. I will, of course, take it off when I'm baking."

"Do you want put it on a chain while your baking?" Mike asks before I can even get there.

"I would love to. I don't think I have a chain though. I want to look and see if I do, want to come with?"

"Sure. If you don't, one day this week we could take a ride out to the mall and get one. Because I am assuming that when we get married you are going to put both wedding and engagment rings on the chain, so it will get years upon years of use." We both stand and walk to my bedroom. "Do you want me to just sit on your bed or do you want me to help you look?"

"Whatever you want," I look at him and wait for his responce.

"I will help look. If you had one, where would it be?" I point out the area of my dresser I keep that sort of stuff.

Mike and I look for a good while abd niether of us find anything. "I don't think you have one, darling. Some time this week, we will go out the mall and find you a chain. Would you like the ring now since you don't have a chain now and niether of us want to risk you loosing it?"

"I think the smart idea is not letting me see it until we have a chain. When I see it, I will never want to part with it."

---------

Later that week, we take a ride out to the mall. We go to the Kay Jewelers and pick out a nice sturdy chain. As soon as the box containing the chain is in my fiancee's hand, we get out of there. We get back to Mike's Hummer in record time.

When we are both settled in the seats, Mike reaches over and opens the glove box. He pulls out a small velvet box and opens it. He gets the ring out of it and reaches for my hand and slides it on.

"Do you like it?" Mike smiles and presses a kiss to my hand before letting it go so I can examine my hand.

"Like it? I love it!" I hug him.

"Does it fit right? While we are at the mall, do you want it resized?"

"It is absolutly perfect! Thank you so much!"

Later he drops me off at the condo with a kiss and promise that he will come in the shop tomarrow.
