Y/n's POV
"Uhm, is it true..?" I ask hesitantly.
Does he? Does he actually have a crush on me? He probably doesn't... right? I mean, he was drunk when he said it. People say a lot of dumb things when they're drunk. But at the same time, he was crying and being open about himself...
AHHHH! WHY IS THIS SO STRESSFUL?!
He sighs, then opens his eyes. He doesn't even look at me. He opens his mouth—GOD, WHY IS THIS SO STRESSFUL!
Just say yes or no, Kai!
If yes, we'll date for real!
If no... I'll probably cry and never talk to you again... which would be difficult considering I'M HANDCUFFED TO YOU!
"Y/n... I—"
He gets cut off by my phone ringing. I groan in frustration before answering.
"Yes?" I say, clearly annoyed.
"Hey, Y/n! You're on speaker, by the way," Nya's voice comes through.
"Hey, Y/n!" Zane and Lloyd chime in.
"Sup?" Jay adds.
"Y/N!!! My gurlllll, your pillows are so comfy!!!"
"My pillows?" I frown. "Cole, why do you have my pillows? Where are you guys?!"
"We just left your apartment," Zane answers.
"My apartment?! Why were you guys there?"
"Sincerely, I don't know. We somehow ended up here when we were drunk, and Jay, Lloyd, and Cole had an orgy in your closet," Nya says nonchalantly.
"WHAT THE—WHY WERE THEY HAVING AN ORGY IN MY CLOSET?!" I yell, causing Kai to look at me weirdly.
"Hey!!! We weren't having an orgy!!!" Jay protests.
"Ew! NOT WITH THESE GUYS!" Cole exclaims.
"Uhm... what's an orgy?" Lloyd asks innocently.
I mentally facepalm.
"Lloyd, you might not be ready to know what that is..." Zane says in his usual calm voice.
"Anyway! We're almost home," Nya continues.
"Okay."
"So tell me! How far did you go with my brother? What did you guys do? What positions—"
"Can we NOT talk about this when your brother is handcuffed to me?" I cut her off.
"Aww, okay. But seriously... did you two do it or not?!"
"Nya..." I warn her.
"Just tell me!!!"
"His banana did not go into my doughnut," I say dryly.
Kai looks at me, both amused and disturbed, while the others burst out laughing on the other end.
"Okay!! We're there in two minutes! Bye!"
I hang up with a sigh.
Kai blinks. "What do you mean by banana into your doughnut?"
"I'll answer that question if you answer mine."
"What question?"
"Is it true? Yes or no? Do you have a crush on me?"
Kai stiffens. "I have to go to the washroom," he says firmly, dragging me out of the room.
I frown. "Kai, you're literally in your boxers, and I'm still in my bra and underwear. Can we talk first?"
"I have to pee," he insists.
I stop walking, forcing him to stop too. "I'm not moving until you answer me."
"If you're staying here, then I'll pee right here in the kitchen," he deadpans.
I glare. "You wouldn't."
"Try me."
"Kai, please!"
The door opens, and the others walk in, immediately freezing at the sight of us. But I ignore them.
"Just answer me! It's not that hard!"
"Y/n..." he warns, fists clenching.
"What are you so scared of?!" I yell.
"Y/n, stop..." his tone is darker now.
"JUST SAY IT!"
"YES, OKAY?! I LOVE YOU!"
Silence.
I freeze. My arms fall to my sides. His eyes, filled with frustration and something else... something deeper, lock onto mine.
"Uhh... what just happened?" Cole asks, breaking the silence.
Nya squeals.
"Can I go pee now?" Kai groans, grabbing my wrist and dragging me to the bathroom.
I don't resist. I don't say anything. My mind is racing too fast for words.
Kai's POV
I drag her into the bathroom. She's completely silent. I just ruined everything.
Now that she knows the truth, she's gonna hate me. She doesn't feel the same way. She didn't say it back.
I quickly do my business, trying to keep it together. I feel like crying. I never cry. But this? This hurts more than any battle wound.
I finish and wash my hands. She's still quiet. I glance at her briefly.
Nothing.
She's not even looking at me.
I exhale shakily and step past her.
Nya's POV
"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!" I squeal, bouncing on my heels.
"What the hell just happened?" Cole asks.
"Nya, care to explain?" Zane prompts.
"Kai and Y/n were fake dating—"
"WHAT?!" they all shout.
"Why?" Lloyd asks, blinking.
"Because Y/n told her dad they were together. At the hospital, they didn't want him to find out the truth, so Kai lied and said they were dating. But as time went on, they actually started catching real feelings. Kai genuinely loves Y/n, but Y/n keeps resisting because, you know, bad boy cliché. But now he finally confessed!"
Everyone stares at me, speechless.
"Understood? Or do I need to start over?"
"I thought algebra was complicated... love problems are worse," Lloyd mutters.
"HA! I get my $10 back!" Jay shouts.
"Dude, she just said they might date for real! I'm keeping the money," Cole retorts.
Jay groans and rolls his eyes.
"Wow," Zane says simply.
"You see? Lies always lead to more lies, and soon enough, you become a professional liar," I lecture.
"Didn't you lie to us by keeping their secret?" Cole points out.
"Yeah, aren't you a pro liar too?" Jay smirks.
Cole gasps dramatically. "Wait... did you lie when you said you liked my cooking?!"
"Everyone lies about that, Cole..."
"Okay, that's just insulting."
Y/n's POV
I need to say something.
He's standing in front of everyone, rubbing his wrist where the handcuffs used to be, avoiding eye contact.
"Nya, please. Just take them off," he mutters.
"It's only been three weeks," she argues.
"Nya, I'm begging you. I can't anymore."
I look at her. "It's okay..."
She sighs. "Fine. The key is in my bottom drawer—where I keep my underwear. Go free yourself."
Kai doesn't hesitate. He sprints upstairs, dragging me along.
He yanks open the drawer and throws her underwear everywhere until he finds the key.
He looks at me then—his eyes filled with nerves, hesitation.
"We're still friends, right? Even if we're not stuck together anymore?"
I feel my heart clench.
I should say it. I should tell him I love him back.
But instead, I nod.
He forces a weak smile and unlocks the cuffs.
The moment they're off, he rubs his wrist, looking down at them. Then, hesitantly, he pulls me into a hug.
It lasts four seconds.
"I'll be in my room if you need me," he murmurs before walking away.
I stare at the empty doorway, heart sinking.
I clutch a pillow tightly and let a tear slip down my cheek.
Why didn't I say it back?
Kai's POV
I lay in bed, clutching her shirt to my chest.
It smells like her.
Tears slip down my cheeks. I don't even try to stop them.
Why did I have to confess? Now she probably hates me...
If I never met her, I wouldn't be feeling this pain.
But the truth is...
I don't regret meeting her at all.
