14- A hero can help only by holding your hand

Kai's POV

I didn't care if I was crying in front of the guys.

I didn't care if they saw me breaking down.

All I cared about was (Y/N).

We arrived at the hospital, and before anyone else could move, I scooped her up in my arms and rushed inside.

"We need help!" I shouted as I burst through the doors.

Nya ran ahead, calling for a nurse, and within moments, a doctor and a hospital bed were brought out.

I gently placed (Y/N) down, but as I tried to step back, the handcuffs yanked me forward.

The nurse looked at me—then at our wrists—and gave me the most unimpressed look.

"Take them off," she said firmly.

I glanced at Nya.

Her face fell. "I—I don't have the key..."

The nurse sighed, already looking frustrated. "Find a way—"

"Please!" I cut her off, my voice raw with emotion. "Can we just—forget about the damn handcuffs and do your fucking job and save her?!"

There was a brief silence.

The doctor nodded. "We're not supposed to do this, but... I agree with him. We need to take care of her—fast."

They rushed her away, dragging me along with them.

They placed a curtain over my arm, blocking my view so I couldn't see what they were doing.

All I could do was sit there, completely useless.

The room was filled with voices, machine beeps, and the sound of shuffling.

I kept my gaze fixed on the floor, trying to control the storm inside me.

The only thing I could do... was hold her hand.

Jay's POV

The waiting room was silent, except for Nya's fast-paced walking.

She hadn't stopped since we got here.

Cole and Lloyd leaned against the wall, arms crossed.

Zane and I sat nearby, trying to ignore the tension suffocating the room.

Nya had her hands gripping her head, staring at the floor like she was trying to telepathically make everything better.

I glanced at Cole. He met my eyes.

Someone had to say something.

"Hey, Nya, calm down and sit. It's gonna be alright."

Wrong move.

"Alright?!" she snapped, turning on me. "My best friend is in the hospital, unconscious, because she was stabbed in the stomach by a freaking pirate, and it's all my fault because of the stupid handcuffs, and you're telling me to sit down and calm down?!"

...Yeah. That's what I thought.

Cole snickered under his breath.

Nya immediately whipped around to glare at him. "Why are you laughing?!"

Cole shrugged. "Because your brother said the exact same thing hours ago."

Nya blinked. "And how is that funny?!"

"Sorry for trying to lighten the mood!" Cole said, raising his hands. "Look, I get it, we're all worried—but (Y/N) is in there with doctors taking care of her. And Kai is with her. She's going to be fine."

Nya didn't say anything.

She just exhaled sharply, then sat down beside me.

I put an arm around her, letting her rest her head on my shoulder.

Lloyd and Zane stood up.

"Where are you going?" Cole asked.

"To get some answers," Lloyd said.

Lloyd's POV

Zane and I approached the front desk.

I took a deep breath before asking the nurse, "Do you have any information on (Y/N) (L/N)?"

The nurse flipped through some files before nodding. "Yes, follow me."

She led us to the counter and pulled out a few papers.

"Is she the girl handcuffed to her boyfriend?" she asked.

Zane and I exchanged a glance.

Lying would be too complicated right now.

"Yeah, that's her," I confirmed.

"Well, she's okay," the nurse said with a reassuring smile. "They finished her treatment about five minutes ago. You guys should wait, and I'll let you know when you can see her."

"Thank you," Zane said politely.

We returned to the others.

"Where were you?" Cole asked.

"We went to check on (Y/N)," Zane answered.

Nya immediately lifted her head. "And?!"

I smiled slightly. "She's fine. They'll tell us when we can see her."

Everyone visibly relaxed.

Now we just had to wait.

(Y/N)'s POV

Darkness.

I was floating in it.

I could hear voices, but I couldn't move.

Everything was muffled, like I was hearing them through water.

One of the voices was familiar.

I focused on it, but the more I tried, the more the world faded.

Then—

Something cold touched my arm.

A few seconds later—

I felt a warm hand slip into mine.

I knew that hand.

Kai?

His voice was quiet, but I heard it this time.

"It's going to be alright, (Y/N). I'm here."

Cole's POV

The waiting room was dead silent—until someone ran in.

A man hurried to the front desk, his voice frantic.

"Hello, I'm here for (Y/N) (L/N)! Please, tell me if she's okay!"

Nya stood up.

"(D/N)?" she called hesitantly.

The man turned to her. "Yes. And you are?"

"I'm your daughter's best friend, Nya," she explained quickly. "She's okay, but she hasn't woken up yet."

(D/N) nodded, his face tight with worry, before following her over to us.

"Guys, this is (Y/N)'s dad," Nya introduced.

The guy waved—but I couldn't stop myself.

I burst out laughing.

Everyone stared at me like I had lost my mind.

(D/N) frowned. "Why are you laughing?"

I grinned. "Did you actually meet Kai?"

"Her boyfriend? Yes, I did."

The room fell silent.

Jay spoke first. "Wait—WHAT?!"

"Okay, now I'm confused," Nya said, shaking her head. "Are they dating or not?! Maybe they are and just haven't told us?!"

"But that doesn't make sense," Jay added. "(Y/N) would've told Nya, and Kai—"

The nurse interrupted, "You can go see her now."

Kai's POV

I hadn't moved from my seat beside (Y/N).

I was still holding her hand.

I had no idea how much time had passed.

The door opened, and I barely acknowledged my sister walking in.

"Hey, Kai," she said softly.

I turned, hugging her briefly.

When I pulled back, she looked down at (Y/N), smiling at our hands still intertwined.

Then—

I saw her dad step inside.

Oh. Shit.

I hoped he hadn't told the others that I was 'dating' his daughter.

He walked over, taking (Y/N)'s other hand. Then he smiled at me.

I hesitated before awkwardly smiling back.

Then—

"Kai," Nya said suddenly.

"Yeah?"

"Are you and (Y/N) dating or not?"

I froze.

"Can we talk about this later?" I tried.

"No. Answer me. Are you two dating and just didn't tell us?"

I panicked.

"Kai?"

I could feel everyone staring at me.

"Kai? Are you okay?"

"Yes!"

...Oh fuck.

Nya's eyes widened. "You are dating?!"

"Y-yeah..."

Nya slapped my arm. "And you didn't TELL ME?!"

"Ow!" I glared at her.

"Why?"

I sighed. "Because... we didn't know how to tell you guys."

Jay grinned. "KAI ACTUALLY HAS FEELINGS?!"

Then—

I felt (Y/N)'s hand move.

Her eyes fluttered open.

I immediately climbed onto the bed and hugged her tight.

"(Y/N)!"

Her voice was raspy.

"What the fuck happened?"

I just laughed.
