Chapter 7 The Mosquito

      Two weeks later...

Henry notices he has not been sent out in any missions recently. Just when he is about to think that he is no longer needed for fieldwork he gets a phone call. It seems there are a few pets with a mysterious mark on them that causes itchiness, swelling, soreness, and more. What on earth could be the cause?

"Annette, I have to go find out what the source of all the trouble is now," Henry says.

"Okay, got it, brother, just make sure the decoy is in place as usual," Annette reminds him.

Henry smiles as he packs his things, then grabs up a fly swatter just in case he needs it. He never knows with the way things are lately.  He exits the house all set for his job.  Now, that the decoy is in its place he is Agent H once more.

Agent H  arrives in the first place the animals have complaints to look further into it.   He enters the building, takes a look around, and frowns. He sees a huge barrel full of water. He can tell sense the lid is off of it.  He shakes his head in dismay at the sight of all these specks inside the container.

"Bugs, yuck I despise these more than anything even more than cats, dogs, and other things altogether,"  Agent H says to no one in particular.

Agent H wonders what kind of insects gather in groups inside water?  It seems they have sharp mouths on them that remind him of a needle.  He cringes at the thought of a bite from any of them.  He sees one fly past his head towards a small hole in the wall. He looks through the hole and sees mice on the other side.

"Hey, you watch out! There is some sort of nasty bugs around here, so be careful," Agent H calls out.

"We are aware of this as one of our own came down with the symptoms last night," A mouse replies.

"Yes, he is right, Master Mouser is very ill indeed," Another mouse states.

"Symptoms are these perhaps, itchiness, swelling, and such?" Agent H asks.

"Yes, but how did you know?" The mice ask.

"Those are the same symptoms of the pets who have a strange mark on their skin, or under their fur, feathers, or scales,"  Agent He responds.

"How very odd," A mouse answers.

"I intend to find the cause but I suspect the bugs that are located here in the barrel that contains the root of our troubles," Agent H tells them.

Agent H puts on gloves, scoops up a few specks into a tight bag that he believes is escape-proof, and goes back to headquarters. He sets the bag down on the boss's desk.

"Agent  H what is the meaning of this?" The boss demands to know.

"Well, sir, the bag contains what I believe is the reason behind the strange markings on the pets lately. The same ones to call their sudden illness which in some cases results in death," Agent  H tells him.

"I see, then in that case, very well done,"  The boss remarks.

Agent H smiles as his boss dismisses him for the moment.

Right after he leaves the building, the boss peaks inside the bag, and seals it back in a hurry. He thinks no wonder he was so adamant in putting them inside such a containment. He sends the bag with a warning on it off to a special friend for testing.

As he waits for the results he thinks now how did mosquitos get here?  It is not like them to stay in one place for long.

           Three days later...

The results are in to say the bugs are indeed mosquitos.  Yes, they are known to cause the same signs that trouble the pets who have been attacked by the creatures.  There seems to be no cure for their bite, however, the basic heartworm pill seems to be useful in repelling these pests along with a certain flea, tick, and mosquito collar or drops.

"Ah, the mosquito is one despicable creature," The boss says.

"Agent H, I want you to warn the others that we have a mosquito problem on our hands and spray some insecticide inside the barrel," He says.

"Wait, would not that containment the water which could result in higher consequences?" Agent H asks.

"Hmm, I had not thought of that Agent H.  Now, that you mention it that must be avoided, so how about you add this to the barrel instead?" The boss remarks as he hands him a spray bottle full of vinegar, lemon juice, and meat tenderizer.

"I think this is a good solution, sir," Agent H agrees. He takes the spray bottle returns to the other warehouse across town and sprays the mixture into the barrel.  A few bugs escape, but most appear to be trapped.

*Author's note: Will mosquitos die or will they contain to cause trouble?

Agent H finds the lid and slams it down on the huge container. He smiles at last now that the bugs are stuck inside the barrel with no way of escape. He uses the fly swatter to squish the few that already got out today.  He sure hopes that is the last of this things for a while.
