Friendship Bracelet

Hamilton was in his office working on something important, and no, it wasn’t work related. Let’s just say he liked to make little things for his friends to show them how much he actually cared for them. Almost all his friends had received one by now, the reason they all didn’t get them at the same time was because they all got specialized items.

Not going into much detail here’s what Hamilton got each of his friends. He made Lafayette a necklace, Herc a ring, and Laurnes an earring. Yes, an earring. He just got one side; Hamilton kept the other. The only similarity to them all, is that they all had a green gem on them. That was his little trademark. Yes, other people did it, but no one else that worked there did it. Hell, not a lot of them wore jewellery.

As you could tell, Hamiton had made a hobby out of it, continuing to make these in his free time, when he didn’t have any work to do. Clearly, he hadn’t given out as much as some would expect but he gave the three important people first, then the less than important, but still very important people, after.

Alex had taken notice that the three had put effort into wearing them every day. Except when their outfit of choice wouldn’t match, though that was Lafayette specific.

Today he was finishing up on a bracelet that he had been working on for about a week. It had a green gem on it, just like all the others. This one was for Burr, even though Alex was certain he would reject it immediately, but it was worth a shot.

He kept working for a couple minutes, you know, finishing touches and all. When he finished it, he merely inspected it, not knowing if it was good enough yet or not. You also may be wondering how he knows how to do this, and he’s not really sure where he learnt it but, he knew how to do it so, he put it to use. Probably not good use but use.

Deciding that it was good enough, he picked it up and put it into a small box he had gotten earlier. He did this for everyone else. It made it feel morereal in a way. I was a nice box, the outside being a burgundy colour. No, it wasn’t like a ring box, if that’s what you were thinking.

Hamilton smiled in satisfaction before standing up, grabbing the box, and going out to find Burr. Honestly, the most obvious place would be his office but, he would save that for last. You know, so he could complain when he started to talk Burr’s ear off. He started to check all the places where he could be.

Break room? Not there.

Debate Hall? Nope.

Meeting room? Had a meeting going on that Burr was not a part of. He just kind of smiled nervously and closed the door, silently telling himself not to do that again.

Outside? Not there either.

Washington’s office? No. But when he saw him, he was reminded to make something for the president. The two exchanged greetings and then he took off, going one last place. The one he had ignored earlier. Burr’s Office.

He made his way over to his office, which was located on the other side of the building. Great. It took him about five minutes, but he eventually got there. He let out a sigh of relief, glad that he was finally there. Doing the rounds really wasn’t the best idea, was it? He normalized his breathing because, of course he was tired, he didn’t do much on a daily basis to have gatheredany form of endurance. It was to be expected.

Alex was really hoping that it wouldn’t all be for nothing, I mean, he engraved Burr’s initials onto it, there was no turning back. He made the majority of everything he gave out, outside the office building, only doing little things while at the building itself.

He raised his fist, a bit nervous and knocked on the door, not even waiting for a response before letting himself in. And there he was, Burr in all his gloomy glory. You could tell just by the atmosphere of the room that he was frustrated. Alex questioned if it was directed at him, or his work. He figured that no, it couldn’t have been him. Since the untidiness of the room suggested that Burr being frustrated had been going on for a while now. Burr was a rather neat, organised guy, so seeing his room in this state was quite the shock.

After scanning the room, Alexander looked back at Burr, scanning his face. He looked rather tired, with bags under his eyes and dark circles forming around them, he was probably frustrated with whatever he was working on. He looked over to his desk which, once again, was a complete mess. He noticed a half empty coffee mug sitting there and immediately knew that that hadn’t been his first mug and would definitely not be his last.

In Alex’s opinion, Burr needed a break. Desperately. And when it’s coming from Alexander, you know it’s bad. So, he hoped this would help. At least a little.

He cleared his throat, catching the others' attention. “Hey Burr…” He said suddenly feeling less confident in what he had to do. “Hello Alexander.” Burr said in a tired tone. He rubbed one of his eyes with the palm of his hand, inhaling sharply before looking back at Hamilton expecting him to continue.

Burr had honestly expected him to come with more work that he had been assigned to do and grimaced at the thought. He didn’t really need anything else on his plate right now. In a couple days? Perhaps he could accept more work, but right now? Absolutely not.

Alex walked up to his desk, before going to the side of it. He looked back at the small box he was holding. “Uhm, I made something for you.” He placed it into the other’s desk, backing away a bit. He watched as Burr just eyed it, before glancing back at him with an eyebrow raised. “What is it?” He questioned curiously, picking it up.

“Well, open it and see for yourself.” Alex encouraged. Burr did just that, before seeing what it was and taking it out. “It’s a bracelet?” He questioned looking towards what he now held. Alex nodded eagerly, “I made it to signify friendship.” He said proudly, unsure of what to do with his hand, so he simply had them clasped behind his back.

He looked at Alexander with an eyebrow raised. “Friendship?” He questioned sceptically, only to receive another nod from the other. He let out a sigh, what was the nicest way to put this? He went through a lot of scenarios in his head. Eventually picking one.

“Thank You. I appreciate it, I really do-” That was all Burr managed to get out before seeing the other’s expression. Alexander wore a broad smile and was looking at him expectantly. He could also tell that Alex had something to say, like always. But was keeping it to himself, until he had finished. Was he really about to do this?

“But I’m not really a jewellery person.” Of course, he was going to keep it, but he had to make Hamilton aware that he simply wouldn’t wear it. He looked back up and examined his demeanour. Hamilton’s face had dropped, and he now wore a frown, his eyes were furrowed together, and he was looking at the ground, fidgeting a lot more than usual.

There was a moment of rather awkward silence between the two before Hamilton cleared his throat, mumbling something after. “You don’t have to wear it…” Burr immediately felt a wave of guilt wash over him. Perhaps saying that wasn’t the best idea. Plus, Washington would likely be very unhappy if he managed to make the other cry. He retracted the statement a few moments later. “Fine.”

“What?” Hamilton asked, still a bit hurt, but with a bit of confusion.

“I’ll wear it, okay?” Burr let out a bit of a groan, before putting it on. Still wasn’t a bad bracelet. He kept looking at it before Hamilton spoke up. “I knew you’d like it.” He looked back at him, who looked the same way he did, moments before Burr had rejected the idea of wearing it. It was as though he never was sad to begin with.

Burr sighed, picking up his coffee mug and chugging the rest, grimacing at the taste. Just because he drinks it, doesn’t mean he likes it. He stood, mug in hand before making his way to the door. “Well, are you coming? I know you have quite a bit to say.” He exited hearing Hamilton following behind.

“Burr I have a question.”

“Yes?”

“How many cups of coffee have you had so far?”

He thought about it for a while. “I’m not entirely sure.” Hamilton nodded, “Well, how long have you been up for?” This was a question that Burr did know the answer to. “Five days.” He looked at the other, who seemed to be thinking about something, he raised an eyebrow. “Considering you’d have a cup every time you’d feel tired again you would have had about, roughly, twenty-five cups?”

He rolled his eyes. “Of course, you know that.” He nodded. “You should get some sleep.”

“Says you. When was the last time you slept?” He looked a tad bit nervous. “Uhm, this conversation is not about me, nope. Nuh uh. It’s about you- We’re talking about you.” Alex quickly stated, folding his arms in the process. “No. we’re talking about you-”

“We’re not-”

“Yes we are.”

“I don’t think we are-”

“It’s been a week, hasn’t it?” To this Hamilton fell quiet and Burr knew he was right. “Two actually.” And suddenly he was no longer right. He looked back at Hamilton, scanning him a bit. He had no bags under his eyes, no dark circles and he didn’t look as though he was about to drop down any second.  “You don’t look like you’ve been up for that long. You’ve got no bags, dark circles, nothing. You don’t even look tired.”

“For the dark circles, it’s called make-up. You should try it sometime. Bags? I have no fucking clue. For that last one, I’m currently running on sugar and coffee.”

“You know, I should be concerned. But knowing you, you’ll be fine.” Hamilton nodded, before continuing to ramble on about many random topics, Burr only giving his opinion every once and a while.

The two eventually made it to the break room, right before they entered, they heard someone say. “Well, your opinion is wrong, and here’s why-” The two looked at each other before actually entering.

It was exactly who they thought it was. John Laurnes. He was always quite opinionated. He was speaking to Lafayette, who just sat there and listened to what he had to say.

Burr made his way over to the coffee machine while Alex made his way over to Herc, who was also there, just watching the drama.

“What are they fighting about this time?”

“Which one is better, Apple or Orange juice.” Alex raised an eyebrow, “Are you asking me? Or is that what they're fighting about?”

“That’s what they're fighting over.”

“That’s stupid.”

“You’re telling me.”

The two just stood there for a couple more minutes, Burr had gone at this point and Alex had just about enough of listening to them. “I’m going to talk to Mr. Washington. When they stop, tell them I said hi.” Herc nodded, and watched as Alex left, before turning his attention back to the other two.
