First Meeting
Aaron Burr
Year: 1780
You were graciously invited by Philip Schuyler to attend the Winter Ball he was hosting. You were wearing your F/C (favorite color) dress, and you were conversing with Angelica Schuyler, Philip's oldest daughter. It wasn't until you turned around that you locked eyes with one man. He was alone in a corner, caressing a glass of wine in his hands.
You made your way across the ballroom floor and to this man. "Excuse me. I was wondering if you'd like to share a dance with me?" You asked hopefully. He looked up at you and smiled, setting the glass of wine down. "I would be honored to dance with you, Miss...?" He trailed off. "Please forgive me for my lack of manners. My name is Y/N. Y/N Washington," you introduced. "Washington?" He asked. You nodded. "The General is my father. And what's your name, kind man?" You asked as you two made your way to the dance floor. He smiled as he began to dance with you.
"Miss Washington, my name is Aaron Burr."
Alexander Hamilton
Year: 1776
You had been dragged to the pub by your younger brother, John. He was downing rounds of alcohol alongside his new friends, Hercules Mulligan and Marquis de Lafayette. The three men were Revolutionists to the core, which made you happy that John had finally made some friends. You stuck out like a sore thumb at the pub in New York, but it was only because you were surrounded by drunken men. Your eyes wandered to the entrance when Aaron Burr — the prodigy of Princeton College — walked in with a shorter man.
The new man Burr was talking with had black hair that was pulled back in a ponytail, and he had energetic eyes that reminded you somewhat of your energetic brother. "I'm John Laurens." Your brother introduced himself. "I am Hercules Mulligan," Hercules introduced. "Bonjour, je m'appelle Lafayette." The French man introduced. The short man shook their hands. "What's your name man?" John asked. "Alexander Hamilton. My name is Alexander Hamilton." He answered. You cleared your throat, gaining the attention of the four men. "Shit! I forgot. This is my sister, Y/N Laurens," John said. You smiled politely and shook Alexander's outstretched hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you Alexander." You said genuinely. Alexander smiled back.
"The pleasure is all mine, Miss Y/N."
Hercules Mulligan
Year: 1778
You were toting your dress in your arms as you walked to the tailor shop closest to your Brooklyn home. You needed to get your dress tailored for the outing you had been invited to, courtesy of General Washington and his wife, Martha. You struggled to get the door open but a hunk of a man opened it for you. "Can I help you with that, Miss?" He asked. He was a bit burly, but his kind voice made you feel more at ease. "If you wouldn't mind. I don't want to burden you with this mess," you said. He chuckled softly.
"'Tis not a burden, Miss. I'm a tailor's apprentice; this is what I was trained to help with. Can I get your name for the tag to put on the dress?" He asked. "May I get your name first?" You asked. "Certainly. My name is Hercules Mulligan," he said. You smiled and he returned one. "Y/N Jefferson." You responded. He wrote it down on the tag. "I'll be sure to see you in two days, Miss Jefferson," He said. "And I'll be sure to see you as well, Mr. Mulligan." You spoke before exiting the shop.
Hercules Mulligan sure was something.
James Madison
Year: 1781
Since the war ended and your stepbrother Marquis moved back to France, you had been struggling to find a source of work. Being a French immigrant in New York City was hard enough, and it was even harder being a woman along with being a French immigrant. You'd decided to stay in America because you found it quite fascinating. You were wandering the streets of Manhattan when you saw a man struggling to get his papers that had apparently fallen out of his arms.
You rushed over to help him, picking up paper after paper. "These are yours, no?" You asked, your French accent plain as day. He looked up at you and smiled gratefully. "Yes. Thank you so much; I need those." He said. "It's, how you say, no problem. I am Y/N Lafayette," you introduced with a curtsy. The man smiled and shook your hand. "James Madison." He introduced. "You have a fitting name, James," you complimented. He shot you a smile once more. "So do you, Y/N." James said in return.
After he left, you couldn't stop thinking about Monsieur Madison.
John Laurens
Year: 1780
You were at the Winter's Ball that your father was hosting. You and your older sisters were quite the envy of all the guests. Revolutionists left and right were tripping over their feet just to meet you four. You stayed at Eliza's side mainly before Angelica introduced her to a man named Alexander. You went to go find Peggy, but got accidentally pushed into a soldier. "Oh my! I am so sorry. Are you alright?" You asked with wide eyes. This soldier had freckles dusted across his face, his eyes staring back into yours. He stood up and brushed himself off, still holding a charming smile. "I'm alright. No one was hurt and nothing broke," he assured. You let out a sigh of relief. "So... would you mind dancing with me?" The soldier asked. "I would love a dance. And I would like to thank you for your service," you said graciously.
He chuckled. "If fighting this war means I get to meet you, then it's definitely worth it." He said. You blushed a bright pink. "You definitely have a way with words, Mr...?" You suddenly found yourself blanking because you didn't know his dang name. He smiled once more. "Laurens. John Laurens," He introduced. John. It was simple and lovely. "Well John Laurens, I am Y/N Schuyler. It's a pleasure to meet you." You greeted. His eyes widened. "Schuyler?" He clarified. You nodded. "My sisters are Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy," you confirmed. John's face broke out into another smile. "Well Miss Y/N... it seems fate has decided for us to meet, and I can say without a doubt that you outshine your sisters at this ball tonight." John said, making you blush even more.
You and John spent most of the night talking and dancing; just being yourselves.
Marquis de Lafayette
Year: 1780
You had received an invitation via your friend Eliza Schuyler to her wedding. She was to be married to a man named Alexander Hamilton. You immediately accepted the invitation and Eliza's request that you be a bridesmaid. You stood in the church next to Angelica and Peggy in your F/C bridesmaid dresses. You and the other Schuyler sisters talked amongst yourselves until Alexander's groomsmen came up to the three of you. You knew them by the descriptions that Peggy and Angelica gave you: John Laurens was energetic, Hercules Mulligan was tall and burly, and Marquis de Lafayette was a quiet French man.
You looked over at Lafayette and your heart stopped for five seconds. "Who is she?" Lafayette's French accent was beautiful as he spoke. You couldn't form words properly; you were just taken aback by this man. "This is Y/N Madison." Angelica said as she shoved you towards the towering Frenchman. "Bonjour, mademoiselle Madison. Je m'appelle Marquis de Lafayette," he greeted in French. The way he said it was so graceful and elegant. "Ravi de vous rencontrer, Monsieur Lafayette. Tu peux m'appeler Y/N si tu veux." You responded. Lafayette stood shellshocked for a moment. You giggled softly. "I grew up learning French as a second language. I'm very fluent," you explained. He nodded. "Well, Y/N, I'm sure we will be — how you say — best friends." He said. You smiled and said, "I'm sure we will be too." You agreed.
Believe me, they became more than best friends with time.
Philip Hamilton
Year: 1796
"Y/N! Hurry up or we'll be late!" Called your father, Aaron Burr. "I'm coming Father!" You called back, trying to finish fixing your hair. You and your sister Theo had been invited by the Hamiltons to celebrate their oldest son Philip's 14th birthday. This was a chance for Philip to make some friends. You flattened out your F/C dress, and came downstairs to see your parents and your older sister waiting in the doorway. "You and your sister look wonderful," Theodosia (Sr.) gushed. You both beamed proudly before you four exited the house. You all had finally arrived to the Hamilton house, both you and your sister each carrying a gift for Alexander and Eliza's eldest son.
The door opened to reveal Eliza Hamilton with a sweet smile on her face. "Aaron, Theodosia. We are so glad you could make it. And these two lovely young ladies must be Theo and Y/N," she said. "Yes they are Eliza. May we come in?" Your mother asked. "Of course you can! Girls, why don't you set Philip's gifts here on this table? I'll call for him." Mrs. Hamilton said. You and Theo both set your gifts on the table as you were told. In a matter of minutes, you both came face to face with the boy himself. Philip Hamilton. He was a lot taller than you thought he'd be.
"Philip, these are Aaron's daughter's Theo and Y/N. Why don't you three go have some fun while the adults talk?" She said. Philip smiled. "Yes Ma. If you ladies will follow me," he said politely. You were in shock; Philip was almost the complete opposite of his father — based on what you and Theo had heard from Aaron — except for the fact his bedroom was full of books. "Amazing! Have you read them all?" You asked. "Y/N! Ladies do not behave that way," Theo scolded. "Lighten up Theo. I just asked Philip a question." You shot back at your older sister. "It's okay Theo. And yes, Y/N, I've read them all," he answered. Your fingers gently graced the backs of the books, allowing your smile to get bigger.
Theo had left to go and assist Theodosia and Eliza with preparations, leaving you alone with Philip. "You write?" You asked as you gazed upon his desk, filled with writings. "Yes I do. Do you write?" He asked. You nodded. "Father made sure Theo and I knew how to read and write. He said women should get their education alongside men; women are just as important to the future as men are," you said proudly. Philip smiled more, and handed you a few of his books. "Here. You can borrow them if you'd like." He offered. "Philip I could not accept this. These are yours," you argued. "But I'm letting you borrow them." He recounted.
Long story short, you ended up walking home with four books that belonged to Philip Hamilton.
Thomas Jefferson
Year: 1789
You walked with Alexander to his Cabinet meeting. Yes, you were a woman, but President Washington was very impressed with how well you were educated and with your writing abilities; they matched your brother's skills. Despite the fact that no women had been in a government position before, Alexander pled for you to have a spot next to him as Secretary of the Treasury. And so you were the first female Cabinet member. "Alexander, I know you haven't met this Thomas Jefferson fellow yet, but please be sensible and polite. I do not want to see a repeat of Charles Lee," you said pointedly. Alexander laughed softly and wrapped his arm around your shoulders. "Sister if it eases you, I will be polite with Mr. Jefferson." He said, and you nodded at his words.
The Cabinet filed in and took their seats. You took your seat next to President Washington but you were still next to Alexander. From across the room, your eyes landed on James Madison — he helped Alexander write essays against slavery. He was talking with a taller man, and he reminded you of Lafayette in some ways. You decided to walk over and introduce yourself to this man as a means of being polite. "James! Dear god, you haven't aged a bit," you said with a smile. Madison turned to you and chuckled. "Well I'll be damned. Y/N Hamilton. I hear you're working with your brother in Treasury?" He asked. You nodded. "It's a wonderful position. I get to spend as much time writing as I please. And who is this man you are conversing with? He seems rather approachable," you said.
James Madison smiled as he clapped the man on the back. "Y/N Hamilton, this is Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State. Thomas, this is Y/N Hamilton." He introduced. Thomas raised an eyebrow. "Hamilton? As in — " "Alexander. Yes, he is my twin brother. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Jefferson. I do hope to see you more often now that you're home and will be Secretary of the State," you greeted. Thomas broke out into a smile and shook your hand. "Pleasure is all mine, Y/N. I also look forward to seeing you more often." He replied. You curtsied to both men before taking your seat once more between the president and your brother.
You had no idea how this Cabinet meeting was going to go.
