On The Run

John Laurens was sitting at his computer, playing mindless games, when his dad slammed open the door to the office angrily. John looked up at him, confused as to why he seemed pissed. "Hey dad, what's up?" He tried sounding like he wasn't scared that his dad was so angry, not really succeeding.

"Would you mind explaining why I found this-" He pulled a transgender flag out from behind his back. John felt his stomach drop, knowing where this was going. "-In your closet, Jackie?!" John winced at the use of his dead name.

"Well..." He tried starting out, his throat feeling dry like a desert. "I'm not Jackie... I'm John... and I'm your son?" What he was saying sounded like it was a question as if he was unsure of the words he was saying.

John's father looked enraged at John's comment. "Get out of this house. I won't have someone like you living under my roof." Henry Laurens' tone was cold and emotionless. John merely nodded and walked past his da- Henry Laurens, snatching his pride flag from him as he walked past him. He immediately ran up to his old room. As he walked towards the door he pulled out an ancient flip phone and called someone.

"Thomas, he found my flag...

"We have to leave tonight, get your bags packed in the car and come round to the Starbucks by my house.

"No, you cannot just pick me up from my house.

"He kicked me out...

"Yeah... Tell Lafayette to pack up as well. Text your boyfriend to get his ass headed to New York as well.

"Yes, we're going to my boyfriend's state.

"Look, it's safer if we all go up to meet him in New York.

"I'll tell Burr to get the apartment ready for five more people.

"Yes five, my sister is most likely coming.

"...You don't know Burr.

"Okay. Yeah, bye. Ew, that's gay dude-"

John hung up, laughing slightly at his friend. Throughout the course of the call, he had been gathering his prepackaged suitcase, two duffel bags, a backpack, and a purse. Slightly stumbling over the weight of all his things, he stumbled out of his room and then walked to his sister, Martha's, room. He set down one of his duffel bags and knocked on the door. A groggy eleven year old opened the door, glaring up at John, the one who had dared disturb her precious slumber.

"What do you want John?" She yawned, her glare never once leaving her brother.

"Da- Henry Senior found my transgender flag. He kicked me out, Patsy..." John mumbled the last part, averting his gaze to the ground. Martha's eyes widened as she processed what her brother had just said before she leaped onto him and tackled him in a tight bear hug.

"I'm so sorry John..." John smiled at his sister's affection, hugging her back with just as much energy.

"I just came to say bye... if you're coming with me and Thomas, now is your last chance..."

~Time Skip to Starbucks Because I'm Lazy~

After a mile trek, John and Martha were standing in the parking lot of Starbucks. John scanned the lot, observing the few cars there. After twenty seconds he finally spotted the beat-up pickup truck he, Thomas, and Lafayette had bought in secret. He grabbed his little sister's hand and ran towards the pickup truck, not minding the weight of his countless bags. They stopped running once they reached the truck, John immediately dumping all of his bags into the bed of the truck, Martha following his lead.

With a grin, John walked up to the passenger window and knocked on it. He heard a screech from inside and loud laughter before the window rolled down, revealing an angry looking Frenchman. John laughed at his expression, earning himself a harsh glare from Lafayette.

"Let us in mon ami, I was only teasing." John (apologized?), still laughing. The baguette rolled his eyes and opened his door, stepping out of the car and pushing his seat down so the two siblings could get into the back. Once everyone was settled in and buckled up, Thomas started up the car, backed up out of the parking lot, and began speeding down the empty road.

After two minutes of awkward silence, Thomas began talking. "Look, John, I know you said that we're going to your boyfriend's state and city and town and stuff but... can't we just, I dunno, not?" John groaned at Thomas' immature request.

"Thomas look, my boyfriend's town is the only place we can go. I have a friend, up there, Aaron Burr. He got emancipated from his uncle a while back and had a three bedroom apartment near where my boyfriend lives. If we don't go to New York and visit my friend, we'll be living on the streets." John sighed in aggravation. He ran a hand through his curly hair to calm himself down before continuing. "Have you told your boyfriend where to go yet?"

"No..."

~Another Time Skip Because it's 1:12 AM~

"Are you sure this is the right place?" Thomas hesitantly questioned as he searched for a place to park their truck.

"Yup. But before we go in, we gotta sell this truck. We only have thirty dollars left and Burr expects us to pay our share of the rent. Besides, I don't think there's anywhere we can park it..." Thomas nodded along, not really paying attention to John. His attention was more focused on navigating through the traffic.

"So, how are we supposed to sell this??" Thomas wisely asked the obvious question that all of them were internally asking.

"Uhhh-"

~Time Skip. They Sold The Truck.~

It took them all day to sell the truck and now they were all squished in a taxi with all of their stuff surrounding them. The taxi was currently en route to Burr's apartment. The ride was spent in complete silence, the only words spoken were a thank you from John after paying the driver.

They walked in and piled into the elevator, surrounded by their countless bags of belongings. John quickly called Burr to ask what floor he was on and what room while also telling him they were on their way. After finding out he was on the third floor, apartment #367 (is that how this works??), they pressed the button with a three on it they waited. Elevator music is really fucking annoying.

Two minutes later and they're all standing in Burr's apartment. Martha and Lafayette ran to the kitchen as soon as the door was opened dropping their bags as they ran through. Burr, John, and Thomas talked for a while before sorting out sleeping arrangements. Martha would get her own room. Thomas, Lafayette, and Thomas' boyfriend, James Madison, would share the master. Burr would get his own room, and John would sleep on his couch.

They all unpacked and shit, settling in until all of their bags were unpacked. Because all of them are like, super gay, there were two rainbow flags, one lesbian flag, two trans flags, three pan flags, and two asexual flags casually hanging around Burr's apartment. After they were all settled in, John assigned everyone some sort of chore duty. (Martha on dishes, Thomas and Burr on cooking, and Lafayette had to go grocery shopping), before leaving to go meet his boyfriend, Alexander Hamilton, for the first time in person.

He hailed a taxi and gave them his boyfriend's address. The ride was filled with silence and traffic noises. John wordlessly paid as he stepped out in front of his boyfriend's house. He walked up to the front door and knocked, anxiously waiting to see Alexander in person. The door opened and there stood his tiny boyfriend, staring up at him in shock.

"Surprise?" John mumbled before being tackled into a hug by Alexander. Neither of them said a word as they just hugged. Frustration from years of only being able to message and call being poured into this hug. The longing they felt for physical contact was finally being fulfilled. After what seemed like years of hugging, though it was only five minutes, Alex pulled away from the hug, trying to initiate something deeper.

Their faces were getting closer and closer. Right as they were about to meet in a kiss for the first time-

"Ms. Laurens wake up!" The loud shrieking voice of John's ELA teacher sounded right in his ear, causing him to jump up in shock. He looked around the room confused before remembering where he was.

He was in his last class of the day, everyone knew him as Jackie Laurens, everyone thought he was a girl, and he was still in South Carolina. Alex was still in New York. John had simply fallen asleep in this boring class and daydreamed of running away.

It was all a dream.

It was nothing but a fantasy that would stay that- a fantasy.
