I got a text from Maria.

Maria: Hey

I frowned. I didn't like or trust Maria. I gave her my phone number, but she had never texted me before.

Me: Hi
Maria: Whatcha doing?
Me: Nothing, y?
Maria: I just wanted to talk to someone and no one else is available.
Me: Ok.
Maria: So, I have a problem. My boyfriend is acting like he's cheating on me. What do you think I should do?
Me: What? Y would you ask me? I would say, find out what he's doing and then confront him.
Maria: Thx. I'll think about it.
Me: Who is it? Or are you not comfortable with sharing his name? That's fine if u aren't.
Maria: His name is Alexander Hamilton.

I shut off my phone. My mind was racing. I had no idea that Alex and Maria were dating. I'd assumed he was single, why else would he kiss me?

I texted Alex.

Me: Hey, can you come over?
Alex: Sure. Be there soon.

This was it. I was confronting him. I was going to find out if he really was dating Maria. And if he did cheat on her, I knew I could never love him. Ever. We weren't officially dating. If this went the way I thought it would, we would never.

I heard him knock on the door. I took a quick glance in the mirror and decided I looked fine.

I opened the door. He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss, but I smirked and pushed him away before he could.

"Are your sisters here?" he asked.

Peggy and Angelica were out for the day.

I shook my head.

He smiled. "Ok."

I led him to the couch. He tried to kiss me again, but I held back.

He frowned. "Something wrong?"

"Yes, actually," I said, my tone hardening.

I took out my phone and shoved Maria's texts at him. He read them slowly, shock and horror taking over his expression.

I glared at him.

He sighed. "What do you want me to say?"

I was shocked. What the heck did he think?

"Tell me the truth," I said calmly, though I felt like I was blowing up.

"It is," he admitted. "I tried to break up with her, but she never would listen."

"So you went ahead and cheated on her," I said, my tone deadly serious.

"Eliza, you have to understand-"

"What?" I screamed. "What do I have to understand. That you cheated on Maria with me without me knowing? Fine, I get that! I don't love you! How do I know you won't cheat on me?"

He grabbed my hands, but I twisted my wrists and yanked them away.

"I can't love you," I said coldly. "Leave now."

"Alright," he muttered.

I locked the door behind him.

Goodness, how had I even fallen for him in the first place? He was nothing but a cheating jerk.

But it shattered my heart to force myself to hate him again.

Some angst for y'all. And yes, Eliza and I are both incapable of cursing.

Ok so I have decided that I will change this book into a more broad range.
