16- First Snow [Lams] (Historical)
It's Alex's first year in America and the continental army. (Not historically accurate but-)
As a result, he's never seen snow.
So what happens when Alex wakes up to the first snowfall of the season?

Alex shivered and pulled his thin blanket tighter to his body, curling up to preserve his warmth. His teeth chattered and he shivered again. It had never gotten this cold in the Carribean.
Even if he had hated those islands, he had to admit the year-long warmth was appreciated.
Alex shivered yet again and finally gave up on attempting to extract any wamth from his blanket and instead sat up and opened his eyes. He let out a sigh and a little yelp of suprise excaped with it as he saw a white cloud form in front of his face.
Entranced, he lifted his arm to touch it, but it disdapated before he could. Frustrated, he let out a second breath. It was warm to the touch.
Weird.
Frowning, Alex gathered his blanket around him and slid off his cot in search of more blankets. His bunkmates seemed to be perfectly fine in this weather, sleeping soundly, some letting out soft snores.
How could they stand this cold? Alex thought to himself. Shaking his head in disbelief, Alex made his way to the entrance of the tent and pushed it open.
The ground was covered in white. The tents and trees had layers of white on them, and even more was falling from the sky, illuminated and sparling in early morning sunlight.
Alex gasped. It was beautiful. But... What was it?
And how did it come so fast?
A third thought suddenly consumed his mind.
Is it dangerous? And why is everyone oblivious to it???
Cold forgotten, Alex stepped out of the safety of his tent, yelping as his foot sank a few inches into the mysterious substance.
It was cold!
Alex's breath quickened. The cold, white stuff had ate his foot!
"General Washington!!" Alex yelled, disturbing the crisp silence.
Alex suddenly lifted his foot and, much to his suprise, it came out! Alex's fear greatly subsided, but he still had to warn Washington.
Alex took another step and watched in fasination as his feet left deep holes behind him.
"General Washington!!" He yelled again, quickening his pace.
He began to sprint to the Generals tent, panicking ever so slightly from the fridged air burning his lungs. (Y'all know what I mean-)
"General Washington!" Alex called out a third time, reaching the Generals tent, throwing open the flap and running inside, only to run directly into the General himself.
Washington let out a small, "oof" and Alex stumbled back from the impact.
"G-general W-washington!" Alex stuttered nervously.
"Alexander?" Washington asked, squinting in the darkness.
"Y-yeah..." Alex sheepishly admitted.
Washington sighed ever so slightly. "What is it you need, son?"
Alex brightened when he realized the General wasn't mad. "O-outside! White- COLD- everywhere!!" He gasped, the words flowing so fast his sentance barely intelligable.
Washington merely chuckled at Alex's disbelief.
"Sir!" Alex gasped. "You already knew about it?!?"
"Of course I did," The General laughed. "It's only snow!"
"S-n-o-w...?" Alex repeated, sounding out the new word. "What's... snow?"
Washington pushed open his tent flap. "This," he said, "is snow."
Alex ducked under Washington's arm and stared out, gaping at the.... Snow.
"It comes every winter, falling from the sky and coating the ground." Washington continued. Alex nodded, only half listening.
Sudenly, Alex leaped into the snow, rolling onto his back in the soft powder and laughed, watching a piece of snow float down and land on his pink nose. He watched with wide eyes and it stuck for a few seconds, then disappeared!
"General!" He called out, "It went away!" Alex got up and scampered to Washingtons side, clutching his arm. "W-where did it go?" He asked, whimpering. "I-I didn't scare it, did I?"
Washington laughed and held his hand out, catching the little dots. "No. These are snowflakes. They melt sometimes on your hand."
"Ooooh..." Alex breathed, unshed tears glistening in his eyes.
"Now go play, Alex. You deserve it after working so hard this summer."
Alex nodded and ran off, jumping around in the snow, piling it up or attempting to catch snowflakes on his tounge.
Washington chuckled, shaking his head. Smiling, he watched his son play around with some other early risers in camp. His chest swelled with pride and suddenly, without warning, he let out a whoop of joy, running through the snow and excitedly barreling through his soilders, bumping into Alex.
His body uncurled and he lay sprawled out on the snow, laughing with his companions.
"Oh dear," Washington wheezed, wiping a tear off his face, "I've forgotten how fun this was!"
"SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!!" A young soilder yelled, chucking a snowball at Washingtons face. It hit it's mark and the camp went silent.
"I-I'm s-sorry-" the soilder stuttered, watching as Washington stood up, slowly gathering a small pile of snow.
"Oh you're on!" Washington growled, hurling the snowball back at the soilder, laughing.
Soon enough, the entire camp was filled with flying snowballs, rosy cheeks, and childish laughs. Those woken by the commotion soon joined in, and everyone else was soon woken by Washington.
"Everyone wake up!" He had yelled, "IT'S A SNOWDAY!!!"

After a full day of snow related activities, soilders huddled together around small fires they managed to build, sipping warm whiskey or hot chocolate and talking merrily.
However, Alex was not among them, as he was sitting on a small rocky outcrop overlooking the camp. His boyfriend, John Laurens, was sitting with him, sipping warm cider.
Eyes illuminated by the flickering fires, John turned to Alex. "How was your first time seeing snow?" He asked.
Alex giggled, swinging his legs. "It was really great. And fun. And when Noah hit Washington with that snowball! Oh Ooh! And the way that the whole camp was playing in the snow after Washington joined us-"
John cut Alex off with a soft kiss to his lips. "I'm glad you enjoyed it." John lovingly whispered.
Alex softly smiled. "Me too." And passionatly pressed his own lips against John's, breathing in the warm scent of cinnamon and crushed pine needles, listening to the faint cackling of the fires below and chattering. Closing his eyes, Alex melted into the kiss, joy bubbling up inside of him as he basked in the memories of the eventful day.
