Chapter 19
Pinky Promises
(Hey, TECHNICALLY this is the last chapter, BUT I will be posting kinda of a teaser thing for the SEQUEL!! Whoo!)
Alex's POV
I sadly walked to school. Yesterday me and Laurens did everything that was on my 'Before I Leave' bucket list. I looked down at it.
Say a bad word: X
Put tacks on Mr.Washington's chair: X
Write on the bathroom wall in Sharpie: X
Kiss John:
Okay, I didn't tell John about that one. Do you ever just have the urge to kiss somebody? Even if they're a boy? No? Okay...
As soon as I walked in, I got group hugged by everybody but Eliza.
I smiled and laughed, but made my way over to Eliza.
"Eliza, I don't want to leave the school as a butt-face. I'm so, so sorry, Eliza. I did a horrible thing. I really hope you forgive me."
"You're a butt-face."
"Wha-?"
"But you're also forgiven." She said, smiling. "Come on, bring it in." She said, and opened her arms for a hug. I happily obliged.
"Friends?"
"Friends."
John's POV
I stood in the school bathroom, and wiped my eyes.
"Get it together, John. You hardly even know the guy. Don't get so upset." I repeated to myself, and walked out.
I walked up to Alex, and gave him the Letter that I wrote. As he was about to read it, the bell for recess rang.
He smiled apologetically, and ran outside. Is he avoiding me?
Alexander's POV
I decided I'd just avoid John all day. It's much easier than saying goodbye. It's kind of a dick move.
I caught a glimpse of Laurens, he was sitting by a tree and writing. Maybe it would help if I went over to him and apologized?
As I walked closer, I could see him sniffling with tears in his eyes, and I felt a pang of regret and guiltiness.
...Well that didn't help at all. I sadly made my way over to him. I feel like such a butt-head. Like if Donald Trump and Sam Pepper had a baby. That level of douche-iness.
Laurens's POV
I wrote down what I was going to give to Alexander before he left.
I was never good with words, unlike him. He could talk somebody's ear off, but that was okay. It was him, and we love him for it.
I tend to run my mouth a lot. That probably will end up in me being dead in the future, but it's me.
I was, however, good with writing.
My dearest, Alexander
I hope that you have fun in the Pirates of the Carry bean. I also hope that you don't meet some pretty girl over there, and forget about me. Who knows? Perhaps we will meet again some day. And rekindle our love
I crossed out 'love' and wrote
friendship. Yes, maybe we will rekindle our friendship, and nothing but that.
Adieu, (that's a vocab word!) be happy, and let friendship between us be more than a name.
-John (a.k.a TURTLE MAN!!!!)
Hercules's POV
I finished the flower crown I was making, and waited for Alexander to walk in.
We decided to throw him a 'going away party'. We only had thirty minutes to plan it though, so I think it's pretty good, considering.
He walked in, and I jumped out from under my desk.
"SUPRISE!"
He fell to the ground, and we gasped, but he held a 'thumbs up' so he's okay.
He stood up. "Wait... Is this for me?" He asked, and we nodded.
"Oh... Wow!" He said, jumped up and down excitedly. "I never had a birthday party before!" He yelled, and smiled.
"We planned it just for you! Mr. Washington said he had to do some 'lesson plan' instead of party, so we just locked him in one of the older kids lockers."
Alexander's POV
If I listened closely, I could hear Mr. Washington screaming "LET ME OUT YOU IMBECILES!"
Ah, classic GWash. They led me over to the 'cake'.
"I tried to make you a cake, but I burnt it, so we're using Jefferson's Cosmic Brownie."
I looked over at Thomas, and he smirked. "I'm really going to miss arguing with you during student government." He said, and we shared an awkward bro-hug.
John's POV
The party flew by, and soon we heard the dismissal bell.
I sadly walked outside, but Alex pulled me aside in the hallway.
"Look. I'm really sorry for ignoring you. I just didn't know how to tell you... I love you, John." Said Alex, and I looked up in shock.
"Alex, I-I...I love you too. But I want you to promise me something, okay?" I asked, and he nodded.
"Promise me, that if you're ever in New York, or whatever, you'll visit me. And you'll never forget me. And if you do come back, you'll never leave." I said, and stuck out my pinky.
"I promise." He said, and pinky promised me back.
I could hear a car honk, and I flinched. "GET IN, ALEX!" Some lady screamed.
"Before I leave, John?"
"Yeah?"
I could barley finish my sentence before he pulled me in for a kiss. It was short and sweet.
I pulled away, and smiled.
Alexander's POV
I ran to my car and waved, tears in my eyes, and I could see tears in his too.
"That's a promise, John!" I said shakily, and smiled again, before the lady I was staying with drove away.
I got out my checklist again.
Say a bad word: X
Put tacks on Mr.Washington's chair: X
Write on the bathroom wall in Sharpie: X
Kiss John: X
I laughed to myself. I'll never forget John. I know people just say that in shitty Nicolas Sparks movies, but it's true. My first actual... love.
I sighed.
I'm really gonna miss that kid.
