Chapter 8

Alex's POV:
Alex walked home from football practice. Mr. Washington had just appointed him team captain. What?
He had said, "I guess I got myself a right hand man, eh?"
And Alex was flattered he chose him. But he knew Aaron wanted that position, and though he was slow to anger, he could do some damage. But Alex couldn't focus on that right now. He was joining debate team, and had heard from John that Thomas and James were NOT happy. Apparently they were Washington's favorites, but that threatened to change when Alex announced he would be a debate leader.
He shivered as a cold wind tickled his nose, and a feeling of autumn swirled throughout the air. He started passing through Central Park, when all of a sudden...
"Hear ye! Hear ye! My name is Samuel Seabury, and I present free thoughts on the departure of Principal King!"
Alex whipped around to see Samuel Seabury, a boy from school, standing on a tree stump. Some other students he recognized from America Elementary were gathered around him. Most were scowling, due to the fact that they hated Principal King.
"Heed not the rebel who screams revolution, they have not your interest at heart!"
"Oh my god, tear this dude apart." Said Herc, walking over to Alex, Lafayette by his side. "What is he trying to say? Doesn't he know we're living in 2016?"
"Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution, don't let them lead you astray. These students do not speak for me."
Alex lunged forward, about to give the kid a piece of his mind, when he felt two hands on his shoulders pulling him back.
"Let him be." Alex turned around to see Aaron, holding him back. Just as he was about to resist, Samuel started up again.
"They're playing a dangerous game, I pray George King shows you his mercy, for shame, for shame!"
Alexander broke away from Aaron's grip. He starting yelling at Samuel, who tried to  step away.
                 "Alexander, please!" Aaron said.
"Burr, i'd rather be decisive than indecisive, drop the niceties." Alex replied.
Aaron was shocked. No one really called him Burr. He stomped away, annoyed by Alexander. Meanwhile, Alex was getting praise from a group of students.

Eliza's POV:
"Daddy! I'm going to babysit Phillip!" Eliza called from her kitchen.
"Be home by 7:00, and don't go downtown!" Her father called.
           "Ok!" She replied.
As she arrived at Phillip's house, she was shocked to see Alex. "Alex?! What are you doing here? What?" She was so confused.
Phillip's mother walked into the room. "Phillip refused to cooperate unless both of
you showed up. He said something about his mommy and daddy?" She said.
"Oh. That." Said Eliza, blushing. Peggy had told Phillip that Alex and Eliza were dating. Now Phillip liked to pretend that they were his mommy and daddy, and often requested they both babysat him.
"Mommy!" Phillip said, bounding down the hall. "Daddy!" He said, pulling Alex into the hug. Eliza could feel Alex instantly tense up.
"Phillip. Let's go to the piano, now." Said Eliza, trying to break the awkwardness.
"Eliza, my foster mom forced me to accept the offer of helping you babysit Phillip. Trust me, I'm not trying to take your job. In fact, I don't really want to be a babysitter."
Eliza giggled and brushed the hair out of her face. "Your not stealing anyone's job. Don't worry. Now, if you want to get Phillip to cooperate , we're going to have to work together. He's a tough one, and I've had to call Angie over to help one too many times. Why don't you go fix a snack, while I teach Phillip. We're working on our French." Eliza smiled, her big brown eyes full of excitement.
"Okay. Any allergies, Phillip?" Alex said, staring back at Eliza. Phillip shook his head, banging on the piano keys. Alex shuffled into the kitchen. As he prepared cheese and crackers, he heard an angelic voice floating in from the living room.
He took a peek, and saw Eliza, with her hands on Phillip's hands, singing, "un deux trois quatre cinq six sept huit neuf!" Phillip repeated it. "Good!" Eliza exclaimed, ruffling his hair. Alex smiled, watching them. The phone then rang, and Alex ran to get it. It was Phillip's mother. She sounded frazzled, as she breathed heavily into the phone.
"Go!" "Gooooooo!" And then the phone crackled, and shut off.
