08: The Dream
"A storm is coming," the voice of God echoed throughout the skies of the field that Zeus had dreamed about.
Zeus tried to run to the top of the hill in his dream.
"No matter how far you run, you won't be able to escape it."
All of a sudden, the light sky in the distance became covered in ominous clouds and it rained really hard. Jesus appeared right beside him.
Zeus sat in the mud and collected himself. Even though it was raining and he was getting wet, it was okay, because he felt at peace.
"What was I born for? Why am I alive when my friends, my parents, and everyone else is dead?" Zeus asked Jesus with pain in his voice.
"You were born to protect. Your parents prayed for a boy who would be able to make a change like they did, and they died protecting you with the hope of you being able to do that."
Zeus thought about Asher's actions and what he did. "What about Asher?"
"Asher has made his decision," Jesus said, with sorrow in his voice, "when he denied Me, he meant it. He doesn't want forgiveness. He wants to kill you because he's jealous of you. When he harmed that innocent child, Dad almost threw a fit."
"I'm not good enough, Jesus. I'm falling apart. You of all people know this, and I'm suffering. Everyone that has died, their deaths were all my fault." A tear streaked down Zeus's face as he spoke his heart to Jesus. "I don't deserve Riley, and I'm watching her and my brothers and sisters fall apart. And-" he sighed and took a deep breath- "I can't save them."
Jesus looked at Zeus, full of compassion. "Leave their hearts to Me. You weren't meant to bear this burden alone. Jon gave his life to save you because he saw what plans I had for you. So did Dana and all of the other people who died to get you here. They laid down their lives for the greater good. I know you haven't really prayed since Earth or talked to Me, but I made you a promise before all of this began when I said 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' Don't forget that promise. A storm is brewing, and yes, you may not be able to face it. You may not feel good enough to face it. But did David feel good enough to face Goliath? Did Elijah feel good enough to face the prophets of Baal? Did Gideon feel good enough? No. Gideon was labeled a coward by his people, David was just a shepherd, and Elijah was suicidal. You wanna know what made them different?"
Zeus nodded. Christ had captured his heart and his full attention.
"They were surrendered to my Father." Jesus said. "If you would lay down the pain and suffering you have for my peace, I will show you what to do next. If not, I will still be here for you even if you don't."
Zeus wasn't opposed to surrendering. He was tired of all the guilt and shame. He got on his knees and looked up, and let the rain pour over him.
Jesus appeared in front of him, taking the mud on the ground and smearing it on his eyes, saying, "Open your eyes, child," and cleansing the mud away from his eyelids.
Zeus opened his eyes and the rain dissipated, and the remnant of his house appeared. He no longer felt troubled about his past, about his pain, and about Asher.
Jesus and a Fire appeared. The Fire came and went into Zeus's mouth as he breathed in. "That, Zeus, was the Holy Spirit. Come over here," Jesus spoke, and pointed to the wall that one of Asher's lackeys had thrown him through. "Look in the debris, son."
Zeus looked and saw a metal box with his name stamped on it. He looked back at Jesus and saw Him smile.
"Your parents left that for you for when you got older," he said, smiling. "When you wake up, come back here and retrieve it. Also, while you're here with Erica, tell her why you became a Chaplain. I love you, Zeus. Never forget..."
