man, take me back to when things were easier.
such a simple life.
where all i had to worry about was when the next time i could go down to the liquor store on the corner and get another candy bar.
where liquor sounded too harsh for a child to say, so we always called it the corner store.
take me back to the times where i could sit peacefully on my porch making all kinds of
food out of play dough.
where i'd see my neighbor, and wave with so much enthusiasm, that they had no choice but to wave back with just as much energy.
where i could bust out my front door and sprint so fast to my best friends house, that was
like a few feet away.
he'd come out, and we would race to the little playground right in the middle of our complex.
our complex, our homes colored a lovely salmon pink that was fading a little.
with steps too steep i almost always fell while running down them.
man, take me back to the time where i could get hit in the face with one of our soccer balls, that's falling apart because we kick it all the strength we could muster up, and not cry.
my whole friend group would be wheezing, rolling around on the floor.
it hurt, yeah, but that didn't matter cuz' i had my friends right there with me.
take me back to the simple days where it didn't matter what background you came from, only if you knew what one touch was.
where we would chant, "sacrifice, eat some mice" as loud as we could, for no reason at all.
i just wanna go back to where i grew up.
where my most joyful memories are captured.
everytime i go back to the apartments, that everyone would call DC because the
actual name was too long,
everytime i go back there, i can hear the humming of someone's grandmother.
i can hear the laughing of children pass by me.
i can still point to every apartment and say who used to live there.
i can smell the fire of the grill as my dad cooked,
the music that came along with it
rings in my ears.
i just want to live there once more.
man o' man, just take me back to when things were easier...
