"NO, HICCUP. YOU can't go trick or treating," Stoick firmly told his 5-year-old son, aware that Halloween was one of the most cherished occasions for children. Little Hiccup's hopes were dashed, knowing his father's decision was final. Stoick was known for his strong will, and once he had made up his mind, there was no changing it. Nevertheless, Hiccup couldn't help but attempt to persuade his father.
"Daddy, every child here in Berk is going, and I can't miss this! I've been waiting for it all year, and I've always wanted to wear my Night Fury costume," Hiccup pleaded, hoping his father might reconsider.
Stoick looked down at his son with a mix of love and concern in his eyes. "Listen, Hiccup, as much as I want you to go, I can't allow it," he explained patiently.
"Why not, Daddy?" Hiccup asked, curious to understand his father's reasoning.
"Because you are too young to go by yourself. What if something happens to you? Your safety is my top priority, Hiccup. You are my only son, and I can't bear the thought of anything bad happening to you. Besides, you can always go when you're older," Stoick gently reasoned, hoping his son would understand.
Hiccup fell silent, absorbing his father's words. Stoick asked again, "Do you understand?"
Hiccup nodded in defeat, realizing his father's concern was driven by love.
"Good. Now, I'll be cooking lunch. Just do what you wanted to do and find something fun to occupy yourself with," Stoick said, heading to the kitchen.
As Hiccup made his way upstairs to his room, he couldn't hold back his tears. "Why can't Daddy let me go? Is it because I am small and weak? Does he think that I can't protect myself? I am a Haddock, and I am strong and independent!" he muttered through sobs.
Unbeknownst to Hiccup, his father had followed him and was standing behind his door, listening to his heartbroken son. Stoick felt a pang of guilt about his decision and went back downstairs, feeling the need to seek advice from his best friend, Gobber.
"Hello, Gobber. I need your help. It's about Hiccup," Stoick said when Gobber picked up the call.
"Oh, Stoick. What about Lil Hiccup? Let me guess, it's about your parenting troubles again?" Gobber replied with a knowing chuckle.
"Yeah, Hiccup wanted to go trick-or-treating tonight, and..." Stoick hesitated.
"And?" Gobber prodded.
"I didn't let him go," Stoick admitted, feeling torn between his desire to protect his son and Hiccup's wish to enjoy Halloween like the other children.
"Why?" Gobber asked.
"I'm afraid something might happen to him if he goes by himself," Stoick confessed.
Gobber let out a sigh. "You know, Stoick, let your son be. Let him enjoy his childhood. Hiccup will only be a child once, and once he grows up, you can't turn back time."
Stoick remained hesitant. "But I want to keep him safe. He's different from the other kids; he's small and fragile, and he tends to be absent-minded."
Gobber's voice softened as he offered advice: "You won't always be around to protect him, Stoick. Time flies fast. Let him make some memories, even if it means taking some risks. You have to find a balance."
Stoick pondered Gobber's words and replied, "Hmm... I'll think about that. Anyway, thank you, Gobber, for the advice."
"No problem, Stoick. Anytime. Just make sure you pick the right choice," Gobber said before they ended the call.
Later that evening, after Hiccup had taken a nap, Stoick decided to surprise his son. He gently woke Hiccup up and said, "Hiccup? Hiccup, son, wake up!"
Hiccup rubbed his eyes and saw his father dressed as a Viking, holding a bucket. Confused and surprised, he asked, "Huh? Daddy, why are you dressed up like a... Viking?"
"It's Halloween, son! And of course, we'll go house to house tonight to ask for candies!" Stoick said with excitement, his voice booming through the room.
Hiccup's face lit up with joy. "But I thought..."
"Forget about that. Now, off you go and wear your costume. You don't want to be late for the treats, do you?" Stoick urged, a mischievous grin on his face.
"Of course not!" Hiccup exclaimed, rushing to put on his Night Fury costume.
And so, together, father and son set off on their Halloween adventure, going from house to house, collecting candies and treats. The neighbors were taken aback to see Stoick dressed up and accompanying his son, but they soon realized that he was doing it out of love and a desire to create special memories with Hiccup.
Hiccup was elated, feeling loved and cherished as he spent this special evening with his father. Stoick's heart swelled with happiness, knowing he had made the right decision by embracing the Halloween spirit with his son.
As the night came to an end, they returned home tired but content, their buckets filled with goodies of all kinds. Little Hiccup hugged his father tightly and said, "Thank you, Daddy, for making this Halloween the best!"
"You're very much welcome, my little dragon," Stoick replied, his heart filled with love for his son.
And indeed, that Halloween became one of the most unforgettable moments in Hiccup's childhood, a cherished memory of the special bond he shared with his father. It was a Halloween filled with love, joy, and the magic of spending time with family.
