9 Really Scary Books
Hey guys! So, to get you guys into the Halloween spirit, here I have 9 scary books for you to read. I'm going to warn you now, some of these contain some... Questionable content. Those books will have Es for Explicit next to them and a side note explaining why. Now that that's out of the way, let's get started!
1: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs
Most of you know these novels because of the movies that came out about them, but I've read the novels and seen the movie, and whilst the movies are good, the books are better.
Sixteen year old Jacob goes to Wales for some closure after his grandfather dies. There, he is whisked away to the 1940s, where he meets a bunch of peculiar children, and a girl named Emma. These books contain some gruesome content and dark pictures, but that's really it. I loved these, and the eerie photos work well to make a wonderful story that I LITERALLY COULDN'T PUT DOWN.
2. Invisible {E} - James Patterson
Emma's sister was killed In a fire one year ago. The police call it an accident, but Emma is certain that it's murder, yet know one else believes her, until she finds a single piece of evidence that connects 52 other fires, and is sent on a wild goose chase. Yet what they find is more shocking than the fact that Emma's sister was dead to begin with.
This book contains EXTREME adult content, gruesome description, violence, and a decent amount of cursing. While it is a great read and I highly recommend it, a parent should probably check this out first if your under thirty.
3. Deep and Dark and Dangerous - Mary Downing Hahn
Ali goes with her aunt and her young cousin to spend the summer at her aunt's old lake house. But from Sissy, the snooty girl that quickly befriends Ali's cousin, to the mysterious girl who seems to have been torn out of a photo Ali found at the beginning of the summer, who knows what lies ahead? And what if, the bad guy isn't the bad guy?
This story is literally the most emotional short story I ever read. It had me scared, laughing, angry, crying, and everywhere in between. I recommend it to those who hate reading and any audience.
4. H2O - Virginia Bergin
Ruby Morris' life is turned upside down when the rain came - acid, taking everyone she loved. She is forced to run, looking for shelter and dressing in paper bags as water and time run out. Because one drop can kill you.
This is a really crappy description for such an amazing novel, but I really hope you guys check it out. No sirius (hehe) content here, except for maybe a curse or two.
5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow's - J.K. Rowling.
I honestly don't know why I added this. It might be because the cover is orange, and it says death, and these two things are associated with Halloween, but I honestly don't know why I added this.
Except for the fact that, oh yeah: THIS BOOK TORE MY SOUL OUT AND STOMPED ALL OVER IT LIKE DONALD TRUMP'S FACE. IM NOT KIDDING, A PIECE OF ME DIED AFTER READING THIS.
Be sure to check out the first 7 books first!
6. The Spiderwick Chronicles - Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black
Okay, I haven't read these in FOREVER, but I'll do my best to describe them.
Jared Grace has just moved into his new, creepy as all get-out home with his twin, Simon, and his sister, Mallory. As trouble stirs in the home, the family blames it on Jared. But no, something else is causing mayhem, something much stranger.....
I LOVED these books when I was younger - and that doesn't mean they're too young for you, I finished Harry Potter at the same time! They are small, but you should give them a chance, because I bet at least one person out there will love them like I did.
7. Watchers - Dean Koontz {E}
While out in the woods on his 36th birthday, Travis Cornell finds a dog with uncanny intelligence, which he names Einstein. But, something is after the dog. Something that wants to get him back to his creator.
Meanwhile, Nora is in trouble. When she is attacked by the guy who fixes her TV and Travis saves her, there is an instant connection between the two. But as the story goes on, and more layers are developed, Watchers will pull you into a story full of twists and turns.
Rape is in this book, and there is cursing, violence, adult content, and other stuff to be careful about while reading this. Whilst Watchers isn't as bad as Invisible, you should consider the above information before reading.
8. The Haunting of Sunshine Girl - Paige McKenzie
Something is off about Sunshine Griffith's new house. It's always cold, and smells of mildew - both of which her mother deny.
Not only that, but who is it that is haunting Sunshine? Who whispers goodnight to her and screams in the bathroom? Sunshine will find out more than she ever wanted to know about this Who - and herself.
9. Asylum - Madeline Roux {E}
When Dan goes to the Brookline College for a few weeks, he finds an creepy photograph tucked into his dorm closet. With the help of his friends, Abby and Jordan, Dan investigates, and WOW. Photographs and addictive narrating pull you into the story, and you'll soon get lost in Asylum.
Yeah, this story contains alcohol and cursing, but the only real reason I'm adding a warning to this is because these books are really, really dark - especially Sanctum. And not just fantasy dark, but like, real world, scare-the-crap-out-of-you dark. Honestly guys, there were some things in these novels that kept me up at night - and this is coming from somebody who didn't even cry at TFIOS.
You have been warned.
That is all I have for you guys today. Be sure to check out at least ONE of these books - I highly recommend 1-9 ;). Please vote, comment, hate, whatever - I'll be happy no matter what.
