CHAPTER 28
My gorgeous boy.
_
Carina's POV
THE SAME NIGHT.
My world came crumbling down when the officer told me about Niall's accident.
This is all because of me.
If Niall wouldn't come to my apartment, he would be safe in his own apartment right now.
The various possibilities that could happen to Niall made me cringe.
I check the time on my phone,
1:49 A.M.
I'm on my way to St Patrick's Hospital where Niall is.
After the call from the officer, I called Louis and informed him in between my uncontrollable sobs.
Luckily, he was still in Ireland, although Eleanor had already left back to England.
The cab driver gave me a nervous look in the rear view mirror, "Ma'am are you alright?".
I shook my head 'no' as even more tears made their way out of my eyes and down my cheeks, reaching the base of my neck.
He tossed me a bottle of water and I gulped it down in one go.
"If you want to talk about anything, you can. I've heard that talking to strangers makes you feel better", he added with a polite smile.
I really appreciated him, but I couldn't speak right now.
I put my head in my hands and cried some more.
He didn't seem to mind. He kept driving through the almost empty roads.
"My boyfriend's been involved in a car crash", I said after quite some time.
"I'm sorry", he said with a hint of sadness.
"And it's all because of me", I whispered.
"Don't blame it on yourself, ma'am. I'm pretty sure he's going to be alright. Everyone deserves to live without guilt and sadness", he said.
"Yes, but that doesn't really happen", I whispered back.
"It does. All in good time, it will happen", he said with an accomplished smile.
I let the words sink in as he continued driving in silence.
As soon as I saw the hospital from a distance, I started panicking.
The cab came to a halt as I paid him his fare and rushed to the entrance of the hospital.
I pushed the glass doors and ran past the guard as I made my way towards the receptionist.
"Ni-Niall Horan", I stuttered.
She smiled at me and typed onto the keyboard of the computer in front of her.
"Right, he was got here almost an hour ago and he's on the seventh floor. Head to Dr Quinn's cabin-",
I didn't even wait for her to complete her sentence before I dashed towards the elevator.
I impatiently waited as it slid down to the floor I was on, and as it took me to the seventh floor.
As soon as it 'dinged', I ran out of the elevator in search of Dr Quinn's cabin.
A nurse was moving around with a patient on a wheel chair in the corridor.
"Excuse me, where's Dr Quinn's cabin?", I panted as I stood in front of them.
"It's farther down and to the right", she spoke in her thick accent.
"Thank you", I nodded and ran forward, earning stares from few others in the long corridor.
I turned right when I reached the end of the corridor and it didn't take me long to spot the cabin.
I didn't have the patience to knock, so I just swung the door open and came in contact with a man who I assumed was Dr Quinn.
"I'm so sorry for not knocking the door, but I'm here to see Niall", I said in between short breaths.
"That's alright. Hurry up", he said as he rushed out of his cabin with me following him.
We walked down the same long corridor and turned left where we stood in front of an operation theatre.
He walked to the receptionist on that floor whom I hadn't noticed earlier and thrusted few papers in my hands.
"Sign them. It reads that you're responsible for whatever happens with him", he spoke.
I nodded and quickly signed the documents because indeed, I was responsible for what was happening to him.
"He's pretty critical. I hope the boy makes it through", he said as my stomach twisted into a set of knots.
I tired not to focus on his words and focused on my trembling hands to calm the fuck down and sign these documents.
"How are you related to him?", he asked me.
"I'm his girlfriend", I said as a tear escaped my eye when I returned the documents back to him after signing them.
He eyed them and handed it to the receptionist.
"Alright, were gonna do our best that we can. Please be patient", he said before going into the OT.
I swear, I could literally punch him in his face right now.
Be patient while my boyfriend is critical?
Of course.
I sat on the floor exactly in front of the OT.
I didn't bother walking a few feet down the corridor and sitting on the hospital benches.
The receptionist looked at me like I was mental, but I couldn't give a damn because I was probably going to be mental any way.
I pulled my legs closer to my chest as I sobbed uncontrollably.
Soon I heard footsteps.
I knew they weren't the doctor's, so I didn't bother looking up.
"Carina, Love are you alright?", said a voice and I was grateful I wasn't alone anymore when I recognised the familiar voice.
I looked up and saw Louis.
He wrapped his arms around me as he knelt on the floor beside me.
I returned the hug and sobbed into his shoulder.
He soothingly rubbed my back and I almost, just almost felt better.
"It's all because of me", I whispered as some more tears escaped my eyes.
"It's not, don't blame yourself", he said as he patted my head.
I tried to believe him. I tried to believe his words, but I just couldn't get myself to do that.
I stayed put in his arms and sobbed some more.
"Shh, it's alright. He's going to be alright", Louis cooed in my ear and I believed it for some reason.
Just then, the OT doors swung open and I immediately pulled away from Louis.
I looked at the doctor and before I could realise, Louis was in front of him.
"Don't ask me anything, he's critical. He needs a lot of blood", the doctor pointed a finger at Louis before rushing away.
Louis groaned in frustration and I sank down to the floor, again.
There were more foot steps, but I didn't bother looking up.
"How's he?", said a very familiar voice.
I looked up and saw Harry and Liam.
Harry and I's eyes met and in that moment his eyes reflected the same emotion which I felt.
Fear.
"He's going to be alright", Harry said as he crouched down to hug me.
I returned the hug and stood up, and Liam gave me a bear hug.
"Where's Zayn?", Louis asked.
"He's gone back to England. Said he had to be back at his university tomorrow. I mean, today", Liam said as he looked at his watch.
"Life of a professor", Harry mumbled.
"Thanks for being here", I blurted out.
They all looked at me and smiled sympathetically.
"Niall's a part of our life and we'd do anything for him, and now for you too", Louis smiled at me.
The boys nodded their heads.
I couldn't help but smile.
I wish I had friends like them back in the days when I was a loner.
Well, they're my friends now!
The doctor rushed back into the OT and shut the door as the red lite came back to life.
My back touched the wall as I sat back on the floor, exactly in front of the OT.
"Carina, why don't you sit on the benches?", Harry asked.
"I just want to be here, in front of the OT", I whispered.
Louis, Harry and Liam walked closer towards me and plonked themselves beside me on the floor.
I looked at them quizzically.
"We're going to be here, with Niall and you", Liam spoke and I smiled at his words.
.
.
We've been here for almost thirty minutes, waiting for the doctor to get out of the damn OT.
"My butt is starting to get numb. The floor's too hard", Harry winced and we managed to chuckle.
"You're such a baby", Louis teased.
"I'm not a baby", Harry stomped his right foot as he stood up.
"Yeah, you just proved that", Liam rolled his eyes.
The doctor rushed out of the OT and we all stood up. I stumbled but manage to stand.
"I'm sorry", he said and lowered his head.
My heart skipped a beat.
I wasn't prepared for what would come next.
"Oh no, you're not", Louis almost yelled.
"Look, he's lost a lot of blood. We've used all the blood that we had of his blood type from our blood bank, but he needs more of it. I think he'll manage to survive for another 4 or 5hours, but if you manage to find blood then....maybe things will be okay", he said uneasily.
"Alright, we're going to contact every damn person we know. You need to try and find a blood donor", Liam threatened the doctor and he nodded his head.
"He's broken a few bones and ribs, but that will eventually heal. You just need to find blood, or I'm afraid-"
"Shut up, we'll do our best and you will too", Harry interrupted the doctor.
Dr Quinn nodded his head and walked away, yelling at one of the nurses who followed him.
I rushed forward towards the OT.
"I'm afraid you can't see him", a nurse spoke as she pulled me back.
"Let go of me, I need to see him now", I cried.
"Love, calm down. Just do me a favour and contact whomever the hell you can who will donate blood and save our Niall", Louis said as he pulled me away from the nurse.
"I'm sorry", he mumbled at her and she quickly disappeared.
Liam and Harry rushed off to make phone calls and so did Louis.
And I did the same.
All I could hope for right now, was that we could find a suitable donor who will save our Niall.
My Niall.
