Mariluz arrived at the fair with Ricardo in the afternoon. When he asked her why she brought her backpack along, she thought up the quickest lie she could manage. She told him she had a shift at the water tank where someone had three tries to hit a target and then the person would fall into a tank of cold water.
Ricardo told her he had a shift at the hotdog stand, but that he was lucky enough to have free time during Florencia's shift at the kissing booth.
"My sister has the next shift." She pointed out casually. "Maybe you'll see her there."
He smiled politely. "That'd be nice, but I really hope I get to kiss Florencia. And then maybe I won't feel so awkward about going on a date with her."
"You'll be fine." She assured him. When they found Gonzalo, Mesut, Sergio, and Cristiano, Mariluz barely even greeted them when she was already on her way out. "I have to go start my shift at the water tank. I'll see you guys later."
Turning around, she ran in the opposite direction towards the toilets. There was a long line of people waiting to use it, but she ran to the front of the line and got into the vacant toilet. She went in there to change into her dress while she heard angry shouts of people complaining. A few minutes later, she left the portable toilets and people stared at her with confused expressions.
"Thank you." She called and ran across the carnival towards the kissing booth.
Mariluz was only half way there when she felt a strong hand grab her arm. She whipped around to see it was Bojan. "Hey Mari." He grinned at her, bitting his lower lip.
Rolling her eyes at the young Spaniard, she huffed, "What do you want?"
"I just want to talk to you." He said innocently.
Wrenching himself out of his strong grip, she replied to him, "We don't have anything to talk about, Bojan. You already said everything you wanted to say."
"You broke up with me." He pointed out.
"Because you're an asshole." She said through gritted teeth. Then she turned to walk away from him.
She finally reached the kissing booth and saw Ricardo standing in line accompanied by Mesut. Gonzalo, Sergio, and Cristiano were nowhere in sight. Her heart raced at the sight of the tall and nervous Brazilian.
Mariluz walked up to the back of the booth where Florencia was sitting down, about to kiss a small boy who looked around nine years old. She propped her head on her hand and looked bored out of her mind.
Tapping her on the shoulder, the brunette with bright green eyes smiled at the blonde. "Hey, I'm Mariluz, I'm here to take the next shift." Florencia had just leaned in to peck the little boy's lips and pulled away when she Mariluz tap her.
"You're here early." She sighed in relief. Getting back up on her feet, she grinned, "I'm Florencia."
"Nice to meet you." Mariluz said and the two shook hands.
Florencia's eyes narrowed in recognition and she asked, "You look familiar. Have we met?"
"No." Mariluz quickly shook her head. "I'm from Barcelona. I just arrived for the carnival because my mom was organizing the event."
"Hm." The blonde shrugged. "Well, you're a life saver. The booth is all yours."
The brunette sat down her her chair behind the booth. Ricardo was the next one to get his kiss. Mariluz noticed there was a frown on his face when he saw Florencia walk away. Behind him, Mesut wore a grin on his face, nudging his Brazilian friend. He whispered something into Ricardo's ear, but Mariluz couldn't catch what it was.
"Hello," She grinned at the dark haired footballers.
"I...uh," Ricardo stuttered. "Maybe I should come back later."
"No." Mesut shook his head, his German accent thick. "We stood in line for almost a half hour. Get your kiss now, you paid for it."
Nodding, Mariluz agreed with the young German. "Yeah. Just get it over with."
"Okay." Ricardo sighed, handing her the ticket that paid for her kiss. The young footballer slowly leaned in and Mariluz grabbed onto his shirt collar, pulling him the rest of the way until their lips collided.
Mariluz' lips curled up into a grin and Ricardo cupped her face in his hands, deepening their kiss.
Their lips moved in sync for several seconds until someone cleared their throat. "Mariluz!" Bojan called, outraged. "What the fuck are you doing?"
Both Ricardo and Mariluz pulled away, startled. Ricardo looked from the beautiful brunette to the angered Spaniard in front of him. Finally putting all the pieces together, Ricardo looked at Mariluz in awe. "You're Michael's sister?"
"She's my girlfriend." Bojan hissed.
But the brunette haired girl scoffed. "We broke up like four years ago, Bojan. Move on."
Mariluz walked around the booth to stand in between the two boys who glared daggers at each other, but Ricardo stepped in front of her protectively. "You heard her." He hissed, "She doesn't want to see you. Go away friend."
"You think I'm scared of you?" Bojan mocked.
Everyone was aware of the fact that Ricardo had never fought anyone. And Bojan thought this meant the Brazilian didn't know how to fight.
"You should be." Ricardo warned. "I don't fight people, but I'll fight you if you don't leave this young lady alone."
"Please Bojan." Mariluz begged. "Leave."
Shrugging his shoulders, the Spaniard sighed, "Okay, I'll go. But you won't be seeing the last of me, Mariluz. I want to be with you and I love you. And this Brazilian dog won't be around to protect you forever." He turned around to walk away.
Ricardo ran his large hands down Mariluz' arms, as if checking for any scratches. "Are you okay?" He asked, concerned. His brown eyes looked right into her green ones and she blushed.
"I'm fine." She assured with with a nod.
"So you're Michael's sister?" He smiled warmly. "You're beautiful."
Mariluz was just about to reply when Ricardo was knocked down to the ground by an angry Bojan, who pinned him down to the ground. Pulling his fist back, he pushed it forward where it collided with the Brazilian's face. The brunette watched in horror, wondering what she should do, until she gathered all her strength to push Bojan off Ricardo.
The two footballers got back on their feat and Ricardo swung his fist at Bojan, but he was able to dodge it.
Trying to stop the fight, Mariluz jumped on Bojan's back and the Spaniard stumbled forward, knocking over Ricardo as well as a cart full of popcorn.
"Mariluz!" An authoritative voice called.
The fight immediately stopped and they turned to see Mrs. Bartra, the event coordinator standing there with her hands on her hips. The three got back on their feet quickly and Mariluz opened her mouth to speak. "I can explain." She swore.
"Mariluz, sweetie, why are you always getting into trouble?" The well dressed woman asked her young daughter.
"Mrs. Bartra." Bojan grinned, getting her attention.
"Oh, Bojan." She clapped her hands together, delighted. "You're back. Are you and Mariluz dating again?"
"No." Mariluz glared.
"Yes." Bojan replied.
"That's lovely." Mrs. Bartra said, clearly preferring to listen to Bojan's answer over Mariluz. "And where is your brother? I saw Marcela around, but I can't find Marc."
Running a hand through her hear, Mariluz replied, "He said he wasn't coming."
Her mom shook her head in disappointment. "That brother of yours. Always saying he's going to do one thing and then ends up doing something else." With that, Mrs. Bartra walked away.
Ricardo cleared his throat from beside her. "I should go. It was nice meeting you Mariluz."
"Thank you for coming, Ricardo." Mariluz sighed and watched him walk away.
"Can we talk now?" Bojan asked impatiently.
Turning toward him, her lips came together to form a white line. Her eyes narrowed at him. "Bojan, we will never get back together. Its over and nothing you say or do will make me change my mind about us."
"But Mari-"
"But nothing." She shook her head. "I never want to see you again. Please leave me alone."
