The news of werewolves in the forest spread through the town like wildfire. As soon as we made it back to town, we were swarmed by the townspeople and the local news stations. There was so much going on, the flashing lights of cameras, people asking questions left and right, and microphones being shoved in our faces that I didn't even realize the group was being escorted to the City Hall. I was born with sensitive hearing, the loud noises and the commotion made it hard for me to focus making it overwhelming. The next thing I knew, I was seated in the bleachers in front of the council table.

As Mrs. Wells, the mayor walked up to the podium, the room grew silent. That didn't stop her from projecting her voice; I guess she wanted everyone in the room to make sure they heard her heavy words.

"By order of city council, effective imminently, all anti-monster laws are reinstated!"

Bam.

Ya know those moments in movies where the world seems too slow for dramatic effect? That's exactly what it felt like. I sat there in the Seabrook City Hall, completely stunned by a few words while everything around me fell away. I think I even forgot how to breathe because my head felt light and dizzy. All this happened in a matter of seconds before I came back into the chaotic room. Anger, confusion, and hurt; emotions seeped into my being as I stared at the ground while thoughts filled my head.

But we've come so far. This isn't fair! This can't be happening...

Oh, but it was.

"Werewolves?"

"Wolves?" Stacey's eyes widened as the group came onto the scene where Addison, Zed, and Zoey stood in the woods.

"What-wolves??"

"Here-wolves?!"

"Werewolves!!!" The three panicked, whipping out their phone, and imminently started tweeting about the shocking news.

Y/N's face scrunched as she eyed the girl holding onto her zombie partner. With a quick shake of her head, she moved forward, "Wait, wait, wait, how can you be sure they were 'werewolves?" She asked with a scoff.

Addison's bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement, not a glimmer of fear. "There was one over there," Y/N followed her finger that was pointing at a nearby rock, "She howled! I'm telling you, she was a werewolf!"

With another scoff followed with an eye roll, the other white-haired girl placed a hand on her hip, "And if I meow, am I a Neko? Look, Addison, you can't just assume something like that. Not to mention we were just in a crash. What if you hit your head?"

At this point everyone who gathered was chatting amongst themselves, mainly gossiping about the possibility of there being wolf-like creatures in the woods. None of which paid any attention to the skeptic and the girl who cried wolf.

"I know what I saw!" Addison huffed, her eyes narrowing at the girl before her as she defended her statement, "It wasn't my imagination! I can just... I can feel it."

Before Y/N could continue the argument, the tall zombie standing close by spoke up, "Y/N, Addy wouldn't lie about something like this. I believe her." Zed earned a smile from his human girl and a death glare from his friend.

"Awwe, thanks, babe!" The two smiled at each other, completely ignoring the E/C eyed girl who was now biting her tongue.

Without a word, Y/N spun, walking away from the two love birds. She pushed down the pain in her heart, locking it deep within herself as she mocked, "thanks, babe." making her way back to the bus to call a tow truck.

All the progress our people have made was just thrown out the window because Miss Perfect over there claimed to see a bloody werewolf. And by the knock of a hammer, our future was set. It seemed the Wells family really was out to stop us Zombies. At this rate we would never be accepted by humans, it was foolish to think we even had a chance even in this day and age. The room erupted into chaos with the new decree, I couldn't care less. A blazing passion replaced my shock. My heart pumped rage into my blood faster than Bucky could land a backhand spring. The longer I stood there, the more it boiled.

Leave. Run. Go.

And I did. I stormed through the crowd in the hall and out the double doors, letting my legs carry me wherever they wanted to go. Images of my family flashed in my mind, along with my friends, their smiles, their laughter. Hot tears ran down my cheeks as a ran, anger in each step. Everything was getting better; we had finally made it out of the dark, musty basements. Zombies were getting a shot at a normal life. But now it's being ripped from our cold, dead hands.

I bit my bottom lip as I held in my sobs or a scream, probably both. There was a warm, metallic taste in my mouth, followed by a small sting on the inside of my lip. My feet started walking faster as I made my way down the streets of Seabrook, eyes only on the sidewalk in front of me as I made my way home.

This is all HER fault! I screamed internally, I had to blame someone for my pain. And I knew just the girl. She says one DAMN WORD, and the entire damn town just believes her! MY people are getting punished because Addison might've seen a werewolf, and they might attack the town.

"I hope this town get's eaten ALIVE!!" My scream bounced off the walls that separated Zombietown from Seabrook. Humans who were just hearing the new decree were running out of my beloved home. Seeing them run in such a panic brought a small, bittersweet smile to my face.

"We have to get out of here!"

"Hurry! They'll eat us if we don't hurry!"

"I don't wanna die!"

Their remarks made my stomach churn, there was only so much more I could take. Closing my eyes I let out another scream before I bolted through the gates. I was starting to go crazy with all emotions flooding my heart, thoughts rushing my head. I just wanted to wake up in my bed, have this all be a terrible dream.

'Watch out!'

My eyes flashed open, to see fabric the shade of light blue before I collided with something, or should I say, someone? My eyes squeezed shut as I braced for impact. A yelp fled my mouth as my forward momentum and the force of gravity brought this poor passerby and me to the hard grey ground with a thud. The sudden surprise acted like a switch in my brain, causing me to temporarily forget about my anger and be replaced by worry as the person groaned.

"I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I used my arms to lift myself so that I could look at my victim.

A young-ish-looking boy who had brown hair matted down a bit, a white safety helmet rocked upside-down on the ground above his head. My eyes were drawn to the streak of white in his dark chocolate hair.

"I will be when you get off me," The person that I was in fact sitting on, choked out.

"Oh! Right, right, right," Quickly, I scrambled off the person and proceeded to jump to my feet, "Sorry about that, I should've been looking where I was going."

Sure I was just a raging emotional mess, but let's just say I have fast mood swings depending on the situation.

With a muffled groan, this stranger sat up, rubbing the back of his head, "Don't worry about it, I wasn't either."

It took him a second to realize his hat wasn't on his head. But when he did, he frantically looked around for it. When he found the hard hat, he quickly plopped the thing back onto his skull. After that, he adjusted the gasses that somehow were able to stay on his head.

Guilt started to creep inside of me as I watched the boy on the ground but wait a minute, if he wasn't paying attention either, who called out to me?

ARE YOU STUPID?! Help the damn boy up!!

"Oh right!" Quickly I extended my hand towards him, "Are you hurt? I did run into ya pretty hard."

"Nah, I got thick bones." The stranger chuckled as he reached up and grabbed my hand, "No need to worry about me--" His brown eyes met mine. I could see the shocked expression on his face as his mouth hung open like he was at a loss for words.

Whatever guilt I was feeling before quickly dissipated as this boy stared into my eyes with those ridiculous glasses he had on. He looked like one of those cartoon characters with those huge doe-like eyes, and the fact he was wide-eyed made it even worse.

I tried to hold in my laughter by sucking on my lips, but that didn't stop the snickering in my throat. The boys' expression changed when he heard my laugh; his eyes narrowed slightly as I pulled him to his feet, "What's so funny?"

Instinctively I put my hand over my mouth and shifted my eyes away from him, "Nothing!..."

My eyes were drawn back to him, his brow was slightly raised as he scanned my face, "Uh-huh. It's this jumpsuit, isn't it? It's too much, I know."

"I mean, just a tad. But that wasn't it."

His lips curved into a small smirk as his arms crossed over his chest, "Ah, so there IS something?"

My mouth opened to protests, but I realized I've been caught. With a sigh I let my shoulders drop. "It's a possibility."

"Are you going to keep me guessing?" The guy in the hard hat asked, however, it seemed like he was teasing me instead of questioning me. "Or are you going to tell me what you found so funny?"

My eyes rolled once more before I shook my head, "Maybe you should look in a mirror before you leave the house. Cuz-" My eyes met his again, a small snort catching my voice, "You're eyes are huge."

The boy in the baby blue jumpsuit grinned at me while wiggling his eyebrows, looking absolutely ridiculous. I couldn't help but laugh at this guy. He's enjoyable, for a human.

"Why, thank you! The bigger they are, the better I can see you with!" This time he purposely widened his eyes as much as he could.

The glasses made it so I could see all the small details in his brown iris. They were a beautiful shade of brown with some green flecks. Something in this stranger's eyes reminded me of a wild animal. Nonetheless, he made me laugh again.

"Was that a reference to Lil Red Riding Hood?"

"Lil red-what now?" His expression shifted. This guy seriously wore his heart on his sleeve.

"Uh... Never mind then," My hand found its way to the back of my head. When was the last time I conversed this much with another human on my own free will?

"Anyway... Why were you in such a rush?" The stranger asked, glancing over his shoulder and down the street like he was looking for something. However the streets were empty now, we were too close to the entrance of Zombietown for there to be humans, but it seemed like the residents weren't out either at the moment.

"Uh, well..." My bottom lip had found its way between my teeth as I contemplated my options here. Do I really wanna tell this stranger? I mean, he obviously isn't from around here. Otherwise, he woulda scoffed in my face and walked off. So what's the harm?

With a breath, I explained the situation to this boy I didn't even know. The chances of us ever meeting again after today are low, so it's not like I have to worry about him approaching me later anyway. And on the other hand... I was completely overwhelmed.

My mom always did tell me that talking to a stranger is easier than talking to someone you know. Surprisingly, this person I knocked over a few minutes ago didn't ask me any questions and just listened to me while I explained. He even looked interested in what I had to say. I had sat down against the side of the building next to us, so we weren't just standing there while I told him about my dilemma. He had sat down beside me.

"And that's how I got here, trying to run from my problems..." A bitter chuckle left me as I rested my head against the thin sheet of metal drilled down to the wall. "If only I could leave this town, my life might get a little bit better."

And for the first time since I started rambling, the stranger chuckled and gave me a gentle smile, "C'mon, this place has Froyo. It couldn't possibly be ALL bad."

A small smile cracked my lips, "If frozen yogurt is how you rate a place, consider me concerned."

His face seemed so bright when he smiled, "Just trying to give you something else to think about. If you're only looking for the bad, that's all you'll see. Ya gotta look at the good too, Lil Pup!"

This guy was making sense until that last part, "Excuse me? Lil what?"

"You remind me of a young pup," After he said that, he pulled himself to his feet and dusted himself off. "Plus, I don't know really you're name."

With narrow eyes, I jumped to my feet, "It's Y/N." I glanced over to see him smiling once again.

"Then, in that case, I'll catch you around, Lil Y/N!"

"I'm not little!" I interjected, shooting him a glare.

The stranger's smile remained as he chuckled softly. He then flicked the tip of his hard hat before he walked past me. As he passed by me, something surprising caught my nose. The scent was one I couldn't ignore.

Quickly I spun around on my heel, "Hey– ..."

A lump formed in my throat as I stared aimlessly at the empty street. A gentle breeze swirled around me as if to emphasize the fact I was alone. There was no one in sight. He wasn't human... Was he?
