Prologue
The stars twinkled a soft glow in the sky as the crickets sung the camp to sleep. A tiny blue-gray kit with white markings snuggled against his mother, eyes tight, trying to keep warm. His short fur wasn't built for the freezing temperatures tonight.
Beside him was another blue-gray kit, both looking almost exactly alike. The other kit was shivering against the cold ground, as he refused to be next to his mother. He cracked his eyes open and let out a sigh, the breath turning white, then fainter, disappeared.
He cocked his head the tiniest bit, as if having an idea. He wobbled to his feet, still shivering against the whirling frozen wind.
With a stiff tail, the kit looked around for anyone who might have been awake.
His gaze woke his brother, who was still enjoying the warmth of his mother. The small kit rose his head in curiosity.
"Breezekit? What are you doing?" The kit whispered to the brother.
Breezekit widened his eyes, then dashed off into the night, leaving only a cloud of dust behind him.
The other kit scrambled to his feet and ran after the runaway.
His paws thumped against the cold ground as warmth filled his body, but was quickly overtaken by the crisp and strong wind that almost flung him to the side.
He sunk his claws into the ground and his hind paws felt a mound of dirt where some grass had grown. Eyes squeezed shut, he raised his muzzle to Silverpelt and gave one last call. "Breezekit!!"
But all he got in return was the howling wind that sent cold chills all throughout his body. He shivered violently as his legs buckled from beneath him.
A faint growl, hidden by the wind made the kit's ears perk up. "Breezekit?" He whispered.
But instead of an answer, a loud shriek pierced through the night.
Eyes wide and ears back, the kit exhaled. One tear slid down his face as he tried to process what just happened.
"Goodbye Breezekit." He whispered. The little kit curled up into a ball and sobbed.
Wave here! Hope you enjoyed it!
