(OS) Shōyō Hinata: Height Differences

(One-Shot) Shōyō Hinata: Height Differences

You never judged somebody for their appearance. It wasn't their fault that they were born with a hooked nose or ears that stuck out from the sides of their heads. What mattered was what was on the inside.

However, you weren't immune to not taking notice of people's appearances. After all, it was your Hinata's bright orange hair that made him catch your eye. He sat right in front of you and you couldn't keep your eyes off of his soft-looking locks as the teacher lectured about who knows what.

As time passed you got to know the hyperactive male and fell in love with him. He was passionate, funny, optimistic, and sweet. Hinata put 110% into what he believed in and you admired that greatly (even if most of what he dedicated himself to was volleyball). Who wouldn't fall for him?

His enthusiasm and your gullible nature landed you in the position as assistant manager of the volleyball team with Yachi. Luckily everyone liked you and treated you kindly. Well, as kindly as Tsukishima and Kageyama could considering they didn't glare at you. It was during practice when you and Shimizu had the task of assessing the players' heights that the problem started.

"...and Hinata-kun is 163 centimeters." You finished reading off, unable to tear your gaze away from the sheet.

Tsukishima smirked as he looked away. "Midget."

"Hey!" Hinata cried. "I'm not that short!"

"Even (L/N) is taller than you." The blonde taunted, thoroughly enjoying Hinata's ruffled feathers.

Hinata turned to you and demanded, "(Y/N)-chan, what's your height?"

You shifted foot to foot, debating whether you should lie or not. But lying was bad. "I'm, ah, 167 centimeters tall." You answered, lowering your voice at the 167 part.

You swore Hinata's eyeballs were going to pop out of his head as he gasped loudly, "What? That's with your shoes on, right?"

"No," you admitted, sheepishly rubbing the back of your neck.

Hinata's shoulders sagged and he mumbled something under his breath that you couldn't make out. Thinking it was directed at you, you opened your mouth to ask what he asked but was cut off as Sawamura called the team back onto the court to practice some more.

Hinata must've just cursed Tsukishima under his breath. It wouldn't be the first time and you doubted it would be his last. You just needed to refocus yourself on assisting the team and not fretting over the fact that you're five centimeters taller than your crush.

After practice was over, you walked home with Hinata. The rest of the team had split into different routes to go home so it was just the two of you walking under the starry sky. Cars in the distance softly rumbled and the sound of your feet hitting the pavement filled the quiet atmosphere. You wrapped your arms around your body as the chilly breezes raised goosebumps, unaware of a bright gaze noticing your actions.

You stared up at the twinkling beads of light, trying to pick out constellations. Perhaps in another world you would be sitting down in a park with Hinata, his hand in yours as you used the other to name the stars above your heads. He'd nod in wonder and you'd turn your head to see he was staring at you.

"Hinata-kun, you're supposed to be looking at the view." You would say, lightly hitting his shoulder.

He would smile brightly with his eyes closed adorably and reply, "What are you talking about? I was looking at the view!"

Oh how you wished that was your reality. You sighed softly as you hung your head in disappointment, watching the front tire of Hinata's bike rotate. A breeze much harsher than before caused you to hiss in discomfort and hide behind Hinata as a wall. He stopped walking and leaned his bike against the road's rails then turned around.

"(Y/N)-chan, I can keep you warm!" He pronounced determinedly.

He took off his jacket and you shook your head. "You'll freeze, Hinata-kun!"

"N-no I won't," he argued, his teeth already chattering from the wind as he tried to wrap his jacket around you.

"Put your jacket back on!" You scolded, trying to give the piece of clothing back to him.

"No! You need it!"

"No I don't!"

"You're shivering!"

"So are you!"

Hinata shook his head. "(Y/N)-chan, let me do this! I'm not tall enough to do cool things like petting your head or giving you things off of the top shelves. Please wear my jacket!"

Your eyes widened in surprise at his outburst. You thanked the dim lighting as your cheeks burned as if they had been set ablaze. Hinata refused to meet your gaze as he held his jacket out to you, staring intently at his feet rather than you.

A small grin found its way onto your cheeks as you put on the object of controversy. Hinata perked up when he heard the movement and raised his head only to have his vision obscured. You hugged him close to you with your face buried into his neck, all your shyness forgotten as he returned the embrace.

"Freezing yourself won't make me like you anymore, baka." You chuckled, enjoying the feeling of his warmth heating you up. It was like hugging a cute teddy bear with ginger fur. You bravely added, "How could I date a popsicle?"

Hinata gasped and pulled away. "Wh-what? D-date?"

"I-if you want to," you flushed. Did you get too ahead of yourself? Embarrassment instantaneously replaced your courage as your regret took over. You wanted nothing more than to run away screaming then fall down into a fetal position crying over your stupidity.

"Yeah, I'd love to date you, (Y/N)-chan!" Hinata shouted a bit too loudly in excitement. He grasped his hands in yours and leaned closely so you were nose-to-nose. "We can go on a date tomorrow after volleyball practice! You can pick what to do! I'm fine with anything as long as I'm with you!"

His face turned scarlet when he realized what he just said and you giggled.

"I'll find something for us to do." You reassured as your eyes shone with warmth. "Actually, I heard that tomorrow will be a clear night perfect for star-gazing..."
