♢ Ch 5: New Apartment

Yamaguchi slammed his fists on the wall inside the storage room of sports equipment in the gym. He yelped in pain. "Why am I so weak..?" He muttered to himself. He gazed at his reddened hands, clenching them once more as his eyes started to water.

Suddenly, Tsukishima entered the room. His eyes widened as he saw Yamaguchi facing the wall, wincing in pain. He furrowed his eyebrows. "Yamaguchi, what are you doing?"

Yamaguchi, who had only noticed his friend's prescience now, quickly jumped and turned to him. "T-T-TSUKKI?! W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" He asked back.

The megane boy sighed. "You're the only one besides me who's in the gym right now. Hurry up or we'll lock you up inside for the rest of the night." He slung his bag over his shoulders. "Let's go, Yamaguchi."

"W-What?! Oh, I didn't notice! Hahaha!" His freckled friend frantically tucked in the volleyball net to where it's supposed to be and headed out of the gym.

A little while later, as the Karasuno volleyball players were walking home, Yamaguchi was not in his usual merry self to Tsukishima. He was able to notice that, and so he decided to speak up. "I can tell that there's something wrong with you today, Yamaguchi," he stated straightforwardly.

Yamaguchi jolted up. "H-Heh?! Me? Wrong??" He pointed at himself.

He nodded back. "Hey, if you don't tell me what's wrong, then I can't help you with your problems, so it'd be better if you spit it all out."

His brown haired friend pouted. "W-Well... I-It's about... Y-You know... Um..."

"Tch, just tell me what your problem is!" Tsukishima raised his voice a bit.

Yamaguchi stopped on his tracks and faced him with a serious expression. "Tsukki... Is it true that you like (Y/L/N)?" He was blushing brightly.

His cheeks hinted a small shade of pink. "You mean that idiot? Hell no."

Yamaguchi felt like the heavy weight in his chest was lifted when he heard those. Well, kind of. "Oh, then that's nice..." He mumbled to himself.

"So, do you like her?" His lips fell back to a straight line, eyes glaring at his intimidatingly.

"H-huh?? Me?" His heart thumped. "O-Of course not! Why would I? HAH! HAH! HAHHAH!" He laughed hysterically.

"...Good," his friend replied softly and proceeded to head the other direction. "See you tomorrow," he said bluntly and trailed off.

Yamaguchi smirked. "I'm not going to lose to you again, Tsukki."

~The next day, after school~

You were speed walking to exit the gate, shifting your head 180 degrees on both sides just to see if anyone was following you, because you were going to go to your work place: the maid café.

Thankfully, you arrived there safely, with no trail of people. You shut the changing room doors and slid down in relief, wiping the sweat off your forehead. You then proceeded to change to your maid outfit and after that, you went out to the reception area.

A shadow appeared in the translucent window at the front door, indicating that a customer was about to enter. You ran your hands down your hair to make the strands that were sticking out go back in place, then adjusted your apron a bit. When the door opened, you smiled sweetly, bowing before you greeted, "Okaerinasaimase, goshujin-sama~!"

"Well, well, if it isn't my servant, (Y/N)," Tsukishima snickered.

You immediately stood back up straight, now wearing an irritated look, along with a hint of red on your cheeks. "T-Tsukishima-san..!!!" You exclaimed under your breath. "Why did you come back here?! I am so, so, so--"

You glanced behind your shoulder and saw staring customers. The manager was signaling you to act more nicely with facial gestures. You twitched your eye and faced back to Tsukishima, who was doing his best in holding in his laughter. You shook your head and continued, "I am so, so ,so guf--gooh--GLAD to see master home! P-Please, follow me and let me show you your s-seat!"

You guided him to a table and assisted him in sitting down on one of the chairs. You handed him a menu.

"Give me a strawberry shortcake," he commands.

You nodded, plastering an obviously fake smile, then walking away to the kitchen.

Moments later, you returned with his dessert in a circular tray. You set the dish down with a fork and some napkins. "E-Enjoy~!"

He slowly ate the cake. You were still by his side with the same fake expression. Tsukishima furrowed his brows, averting his gaze to you. "You seem like you got a problem," he told as he examined you.

You puffed your cheeks then exhaled. "W-Well... I actually do," you replied. "You see, I need to find an apartment to live in. I-It's a pretty long story."

You explained the whole reason to why you needed a new place to move into, as well as to why you transferred to his class. "B-But if you don't know any nearby apartments that doesn't have much of a costly rent, then it's fine. I can go look for one tomorrow I guess," you added, proceeding to walk away.

"Wait."

"Huh?" You turned around. The blond man scratched the back of his head, saying, "There's an apartment near my home. You can check that out if you want..."

Your eyes enlightened. "Really?! Show me the way, Tsukishima-san! I'll sign out of work right now. Wait for me at the front." You merrily skipped back to the employees' room.

A little later, you went outside, back with your school attire. Thankfully, he actually waited for you. The two of you walked to this apartment he was talking about.

When you entered the apartment lobby, you gasped in awe. It looked so presentable; it was not too fancy nor too unsanitary. You approached the man in the counter. "Hello. My name is (Y/Full/Name). I would like to ask if there are any vacant rooms for a single person?"

The man went onto his computer, loudly clicking and scrolling with his mouse. After a couple of seconds, he replied, "Yes, we do have one more vacant room for one person."

You grinned. Before you agreed to moving in, you had to ask for the cost of the rent, which was fortunately in your wanted price range. You thanked the counterman and filled out the necessary papers. Finally, you were able to settle in by tomorrow.

You headed back out with Tsukishima. "Thank you so much, Tsukishima-san!" You exclaimed. "You really helped me a lot!"

Tsukishima gazed upon your gleeful face; the corners of his lips were tugged a bit into a curve. When he realized this involuntary action, he frowned. "I just helped you 'cause I was bored," he bluntly responded, shoving his hands in his pockets, walking faster.

You giggled and ran after him.
