♢ Ch 1: New Stage
One morning, as you were preparing yourself to attend school, your father recently came back from his work, announcing a special news.
"Good news everyone! We're moving to Tokyo!" He exclaimed, dropping his leather bag on the floor.
Your jaw dropped. Ever since elementary, your family always had to move through different towns in Japan, once every year at the most, sometimes even a month. You disliked that life, because all you did was to travel, settle in, struggle with catching up in school, and then move; the cycle goes all over again.
As of now, you have been living in a small town in Japan, named Torono Town, Miyagi Prefecture for only four months. You just completed settling in and adjusting to the place, and got to know a few people. Thankfully, you arrived there just when school began, so you didn't had to do a lot of work. You were also trying to make good grades. You didn't want all of your effort to go to waste, so you thought of an idea so you could continue to stay here.
"Dad, Mom," you said, walking out of your room, "i-is it okay if I stay here in Torono?"
Your mom's smile turned upside down. "(Y/N), why are you saying that thing? You're supposed to come with us. Besides, you aren't performing well in school. You can receive better education in Tokyo. Plus, we have relatives over there, so it wouldn't be much of a pain to live there."
"Your mom's right, (Y/N). Start packing up your stuff. I'll come to school next week to get your transfer." Your dad sipped the last of his coffee and stood up.
"Wait!" You took a step closer. "If I do better in school, then can I stay?"
Your parents looked at each other and had a short private conversation before turning to you. "Alright," your father said. "However, you need to be getting straight A's. You have to join a club--the anime club doesn't count."
"Darn it..." You mumbled.
"And you need to get a job. That's all you have to do in order to convince us that you can survive here on your own." As he was about to exit, he turned his head slightly. "If your mother or I notice you slip, even the slightest, we won't give you any second chances."
You gulped. Surely this deal is a very tough thing to decide on your own. You never had any experience whatsoever when it comes to living alone. Well, you were left at home a few times, but you never acted like a proper young adult who maintains your household; you would always dig through your fridge at unpredictable times, looking for random snacks.
However, your motivation did not hold you back.
"Deal." You grabbed your school bag and left your house. "Ittekimasu!"

When you reached your school, Karasuno High School, you decided to change classes and hopefully be transferred at the same time, since there was still an hour before the bell rings. You went to the office and fixed the necessary papers and had a short interview with your counselor before they allowed you to. It had been an easy task for there were not a lot of students at college-preparatory classes--which you are going into right now! She handed you your fresh new schedule exchanging your light-weight textbooks with heavier ones. You bowed in thanks.
You reached the classroom--class 1-4. You swallowed the lump in your throat as you managed to step into the classroom with a stiffened body. The aura inside was different from the regular classes; about half of the students were looking down on a book, either reading or studying, a few were chatting and gossiping, and the rest did other things. You stood in front of the door, not knowing what to do, as some people started to notice you. Just when you were about to turn around, you were greeted by the homeroom teacher. The bell finally rang.
"Good morning," she smiled. "Are you the new student the counselor was talking about?"
"Y-Yes..." you answered shyly.
"Alright." She went to the front of the class and beckoned you. "Class, we have a new student," she said, presenting you. "Would you please tell us your name?"
You looked down at your polished shoes, avoiding eye contact with the class. "M-My name is (Y/F/N). Nice to meet you all." (Note: (Y/F/N)=Your full name)
"Okay! Now let's put you in an empty seat." She scanned the classroom with her index finger in the air, swirling around. "Ah, there." She pointed at a seat by the window. (A/N: Hooray! You're officially the protagonist! XD) "You could sit next to Yamaguchi-kun."
You nodded your head and awkwardly walked over to the back of the class and sat in your newly assigned seat. You glanced at your seatmate, who is called "Yamaguchi", according to the teacher. He was fiddling with his mechanical pencil and poking holes through his eraser. You can tell that he was nervous when he dropped the eraser on the floor, bouncing through your feet. You picked it up and gave it back to him. "Here," you said blankly.
Yamaguchi's cheeks reddened. He tried to take the eraser from your hands without brushing his skin with yours. "T-T-T-THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!" he shouted. The class looked at him in dissatisfaction before the boy with freckles apologized in a softer tone. You couldn't help but quietly giggle.
"I think Yamaguchi-kun is going to get along with you pretty well, (Y/N)-kun!" The teacher furtively smirked, chuckling faintly, which sounded like 'honhonhon'.
You glanced at him again and gave out a tiny smile. He blinked in disbelief. "Did she just smile at me?" he thought. "A-Ah, U-Uh..! M-My name is Y-Yamaguchi T-Tadashi! N-Nice to meet you... um, what was it again?" He laughed sheepishly.
"I'm (Y/F/N). Nice to meet you, Yamaguchi-san," you replied.
"Okay, let's get started with the lesson now, class!" She clapped her hands. "Bring out your literature textbooks and open it to page 592..."
As you were getting out your materials, from the corner of your frame of vision, you felt like someone was staring at you intensely that it made your body tense. You shakily turned your head and met the golden-brown eyes of the student sitting in front of you. He was wearing a smug look as he looked down at you. "Loser," he said before facing back front.
Your jaw dropped. You thought this class was filled with nice people like Yamaguchi, but there were also horrible people like him. You furrowed your brows and ignored him. Never ever will you associate yourself with him.
Or will you?
